Our Chairman's message We completed the first 6 months of the year. We are proud of our success stories we received in June. While "our steps foreseeing the future are always pursuing excellence", in our 44th year, the locomotive of our group, Norm Cıvata has made a leap of 44 ranks and risen to the 183rd rank from the 227th rank among the top 1000 companies declared by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) every year.  This achievement, which we have succeeded altogether, reinforced our rise at Istanbul Chamber of Industry's (ISO) ranking of the top 500 largest industrial companies in Turkey. Norm Cıvata, which was listed in the 230th row last year, has risen to 217th row this year by skipping 13 ranks. I have very faith in that these successes that we have caught together are due to our "us" consciousness, our belief in team work, and most importantly, our belief that we have achieved this success by owning our institutional values ​​and that we will achieve the challenge together with the goal of being among the top 100 companies in Turkish industry in the coming years.

In the Norm Vocational Training Units Joy of School Report Cards At the Izmir Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone (IAOSB) and Salihli Organized Industrial Zone, the Norm Vocational Training Center students took their school report cards at the end of the 2016-2017 education season. Founder Honorary President of the Norm Group Nedim Uysal, attending the closing ceremonies of İzmir Training Unit, presented his gifts to successful students. While thanking the students for their self-sacrificing work, Uysal recommended that they pass the summer period efficiently.

orm Group corporate communications specialist Burçay Güngüler was presented with a plaque by Fahriye Tuğcu for the support of the Norm Group, sponsored for the “Hearty Steps” fashion show organized with the idea of “Being aware is the first step in creating a solution.” by Ege Artı Disabled Persons Education and Development Association. Büşra Ösen Masoodi dealt with the designs of the dresses of the fashion show in the event which was put into practice with the volunteering principle of the students from different high schools. With 33 special young, 33 determined, devoted, hard-working young as staff, the Aegean University Disabled Nursing and Rehabilitation Program students were on stage.

News from Norm R&D

articipation was made with 2 articles prepared by the R&D team for the 3rd International Iron and Steel Symposium organized this year. From our R&D Engineers, Sezgin Yurtdaş presented his article “Increasing Cold Forging Tool Life of M10x1.25 Welding Flange Nut by Using Finite Element Simulation” about improvement of mold life obtained by using numerical simulation techniques in ring weld nipple with M10x1.25 flange, and Barış Tanrıkulu presented his article “Experimental Investigation on Self-loosening of Preloaded Stainless Steel Fasteners” which included the examination of the relaxation behavior of stainless bolts under vibration. In this symposium where the university and the industry met, participation and presentations of our company in fields requiring different competence attracted great acclaim by academicians, industrialists and engineer candidates. Beside the Norm Cıvata R&D team, we would like to congratulate all those who contributed, especially the Norm Somun Team.

he article titled “Tool Life Enhancement in Cold Bolt Forging Process: The Effect of Forging Stage Design” prepared by our R&D engineer Cenk Kılıçaslan and our R&D director Umut İnce was accepted and published in June in SAU Journal of Science Institute which is one of the nationally recognized scientific journals determined by YÖK.

articipation was held at the New Developments in Forging Technology conference on May 15-17 in Stuttgart with the article entitled “Light-weight Forging of Steel Alloy Fasteners” presented by our R&D Engineer Sezgin Yurtdaş. It had been included in the “Analysis of Products and Future Prospectives in Cold Forging” part of the conference which was one of the essential major topics. In the presentation of nearly 220 participants from the university and the industry, our application study on weight reduction, which was almost on everyone’s lips, attracted great interest, and we were asked about our future study strategies. We thank all the R&D team who contributed.

Fatih Uysal shared secret of success with students

C

hairman of Board of Directors of Norm Group and also İAOSB Deputy Chairman Fatih Uysal, who participated in the Career Days activity of private İAOSB Nedim Uysal Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (MTAL), shared his experiences with the students. He submitted his presentation in two different sections under the name of awareness and values and cautioned that success can only be achieved fearlessly, by working with great devotion. Uysal recalled that industrialists had difficulty in finding technical staff and suggested, “Never give up, even if you cannot win the university. So just focus on your own development. Research and read.” Having transferred the development of the Norm Group, who was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Uysal conveyed his experiences and impressions he had achieved in the business life he started in 1980.

Norm Group in AÇEV Trainings

A

s the Norm Group, we are part of the “I Support Social Gender Equality for My Country” project, which continues in cooperation with the Mother Child Education Foundation and our business partner Ford Otosan. Our valuable colleagues Mine Taneri, Corporate Communications Specialist and Marketing Specialist Erman Uysal, who received 3-day educator training on the project, will try to strengthen the awareness in the workplace and social life related to the subject by giving this training under the same topic during the next 6 months in our Group companies. Initial training was given by AÇEV educators to general participants in Manisa AOSB. Norm Group participated in the training with a participation of 20 people. We will continue to provide training and information about the project. Power of the field is the power of NORM As a result of the importance we have given to field workers, “power of the field is the power of Norm” project sequence is started with the Adisa Consultancy firm in May. As Human Resources and Institutional Development, our aim with these projects is to create an organizational structure for our employees working in production, clarify positions and

tasks, analyze jobs in plain production principles and improve productivity in our companies located in the Norm Group. The efficiency stage of the process which lasts for about 18 weeks is being carried out under the leadership of our Group Process Development Team and the involvement of both our production engineers and

Industrial Engineering students from various universities in the project has increased the scope and speed of the project. This project which is an example of a full team work has become a model work supporting the development of the students at the same time and has provided a real orientation to bring them into business life.

Payroll and personal affairs are centralized

T

he infrastructure for reorganization work in the Payroll and Personnel Affairs Administration, one of the Human Resources and Institutional Development functions, has been completed and is configured centrally as of May 2017. The application that was company-based previously, has been provided to be managed from a single center. With this application, it is intended to provide application unity between our Group companies, minimize mistakes by minimizing/removing manual processes, overcome shortcomings of information, experience, etc., quick and accurate follow-up of incentives/legal processes, make possible to move month closures to an earlier time, ensure traceability by increasing the integrity and accuracy of the data (such as training, performance, quality and discipline histories of our employees), introduce reporting standards, establish infrastructure of new systems to be launched in the upcoming period, and increase the productivity of the team. Human Resources Senior Team Leader Serkan Bozoğlu, Human Resources Specialist Hülya Akyürek, Human Resources Individual Responsible Burcu İstanbulluoğlu and our team consisting of tallyman associates in our companies will work in our Uysal-2 factory in the following period.

Zeki Serbest in the Norm Art Gallery

N

orm Group has hosted the oil paintings of artist Zeki Serbest in the first exhibition of the season in 2017 in its art gallery which has been active for 14 years in İzmir Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone. Çiğli District Governor Kaya Çıtak, Çiğli Police Chief Tahsin Kılıç and his spouse, Norm Cıvata Honorary President Nedim Uysal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Norm Cıvata and İAOSB Board Member Fatih Uysal, and Retired General (Aegean) Fikret Küpeli, as well as regional industri-

alists participated to the exhibition opened with the cocktail party at the Norm Art Gallery. Receiving the opening speech, Serbest stated that he was originally from the Black Sea-Samsun and depicted his country Ladik in his paintings and blended the unique natural beauties of the Black Sea with his imagination to bring his works and art enthusiasts together. Who is Zeki Serbest? He was born in 1946 in Samsun-Ladik. He completed his primary, secondary and

primary teaching school education in Ladik. In 1968, he graduated from the Department of Art Teaching at Ankara Gazi Education Institute. He is drafted for Akpınar Primary Teaching School where he also graduated from and spent 12 years there, and then he taught in two different secondary education institutions in Izmir until he retired. The artist, who was a member of B.R.D.H, opened 90 personal exhibitions and participated in 140 competitive and mixed exhibitions. His works are featured in local and international private and public collections.

cision ceremony every year. Norm Group employees, their families and 25 children participated in the circumcision ceremony held in accordance with Turkish customs and traditions, and under the leadership of Founder Honorary President Nedim Uysal in İzmir Atatürk Organized

Industrial Zone and Salihli Organized Industrial Zone Norm Cıvata facilities. Founder Honorary Chairman Nedim Uysal stated that they have traditionally held this ceremony each year and are happy to meet with the families of the employees in such an organization as the Norm Family.

Norm Family is in Çanakkale 90 people participated in the day trip to Çanakkale where the employees and families of our companies in Izmir and Salihli participated and those who wanted to participate were selected by lot.

Participants taking part in the guided trip caught the opportunity to visit the Gallipoli Peninsula where Gallipoli Battles, the struggle for existence of a nation was realized in all directions by

visiting the “Gallipoli Historical Site” where the most striking traces of the Gallipoli Battles can be seen, cemeteries, trenches, military road routes, fortresses, tablets and monuments.

Norm Runners ran in Wings for Life for those who cannot

W

e participated as Norm Runners group in the Wings for Life World Run which started in 34 different countries at the same time and aimed at providing research support for the treatment of spinal cord paralysis, and 155 thousand people around the world ran for those who cannot. The Norm Group, which is one of the participating organizations, has enjoyed both the activity and the voluntary work organized under the leadership of İzmir Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone.

Norm Football Team takes second place at Business Cup Turkey

017 champion of Business Cup Turkey, which is the largest and most extensive intercompany football league in Turkey consisting of teams of company employees and organized biannually in spring and fall seasons in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Konya and Adana, is unveiled at the final organized at Antalya Adora Golf Resort Hotel. Norm Group team managed to become spring and fall champion of the tournament participated by 25 teams competing for 10 weeks in İzmir. Norm Group team played a friendly match with the Tunisian National Team before the finals.

NORM Group participated in the Inter-Enterprise Dragon (rowing competition) Festival We participated in the Inter-Enterprise Dragon Festival held on May 13-14 by 2 different teams. As a result of training for 2 months our employees, who rowed determinedly in the competitions, have both taken part in a competition environment and had joyous times. Management group, our managers and employees also came to the event full of many organizations from costume contest to dance contest, and supported our team.

Norm Group basketball team in İzmir Inter-Enterprise 4x4 Single Basket League for the 2nd time

T

he Norm Group basketball team represented our company successfully for the 2nd time in İzmir InterEnterprise 4x4 Single Basket League. Our team qualified for the next round after coming in the first place unbeaten in the group consisting of teams of Günaydın Group, Maxion İnci Jant, Yeni Asır, Lucky Fish and Decathlon companies, then it was eliminated by the last season champion CMS Jant with one point in the next round and bid farewell ahead of time to the tournament in the final. As our team won the appreciation of everyone by the team game during the tournament, our team’s star Burak Oruç again left his mark on the tournament as İzmir Point and Rebound king

rivate İAOSB Nedim Uysal Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School ended 2016-2017 Education year with the event organized in the conference hall. In the year-end event program prepared by teachers and students, successful performances were staged

ranging from ballet to theater, from short concert to poetry audition. The ballet performance of the 9thclass student Gülce Aksu, who won the second prize with her solo show in the competition held in the previous month in Spain, accompanied by modern dance show of her classmates

got the thumbs up from audience. The theater show prepared by the 10th class students had the hall rolling in the aisles with its fun dialogues. The step show of the 10th class students and the theater show prepared by the English Club students were also watched with interest.

Norm Group Salihli Plants got full marks from Automotive giants

S

ince the day it was founded, the Norm Salihli Plants, which always aim for better, have got full marks from the automotive giants. Norm Somun Salihli plant, which became entitled to get TS 16949 certificate in July 2016, successfully completed Volkswagen audit in April 2017. As a result of the audit, it became a class A supplier in the production of nuts. At the end of May, Norm Cıvata Salihli and Norm Somun Salihli factories became Approved supplier of Bolts and Nuts by Renault ASES

audit. We thank all our friends who work with devotion in these diffi-

cult processes and wish to succeed altogether.

Norm Somun was approved as Design Center

S

ince the Design Center concept, which entered into our life in March 2016 with amendments to the R&D centers law no. 5746 and was framed by a regulation came into force in August 2016, matched up with our new product implementation and die designing activities conducted in our Norm Somun Engineering Services department and the point we want to carry them in the future, we started to work on this subject with the publication of the law. The application we made by completing our preparations in April 2017 was successfully completed with the presentation we made in the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology on May 22, 2017, and we were entitled to receive the Design Center Certificate. Norm Somun Design Center has a total of 15 staff including 12 from Engineering Services Department and

3 from Process Improvement Department. With this team, we aim to bring value added products into our product range and especially make cold forming die designing processes more effective by implementing design projects in parallel with Norm Group’s R&D vision. In this context, we plan to increase the R&D activities in Norm Group’s female parts product groups by further developing our cooperation which has been continuing increasingly with Norm Cıvata R&D center. In doing so, we intend to bring our company patent and beneficial models. We also aim to increase the number of collaborations with universities and the number of state-funded projects and thus to make our

company more competitive in the target sectors and product groups in the coming years.

Norm Cıvata raises the bar

orm Cıvata retained its position rising in “Turkey Top 500 Industrial Enterprises 2016” list that the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) announced. Norm Cıvata was listed in the 217th row rising 13 steps in the list where it was in the 230th row last year. In the research that ISO made among industrial institutions based on production sales data, Norm Cıvata succeeded to rise in the list compared to last year. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Norm Cıvata Fatih Uysal, who stated that they were proud of entering this prestigious and important list last year and rising 13 rows as well as entering this year again, said, “In addition to being in a list like ISO 500, which determines the leading companies in Turkey’s sectors, it is valuable that we have made progress according to last year. We had found ourselves in the 230th row on the list of the top 500 companies of Turkey last year, and this year we reached up to 217th row rising 13 steps.” Norm Cıvata, which is

preferred by companies around the world for 44 years, reinforced its 2016 success by rising 44 steps at once in the “Top 1000 Exporter Companies of Turkey” list which was announced by TİM following its immediate rise by 13 steps in the Istanbul Chamber of

Industry (ISO) 500 list. Norm Cıvata also crowned its 44 years of adventure by rising 44 steps at once and entering among the first 200 in the list of top exporter companies in 2016 announced by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

Guide to Understanding Accounting Department

ccounting but which accounting? Is it pre-accounting, or general accounting, or management accounting, or cost accounting, or accounting in which financial processes have been added, but only the name is left as so, or accounting in which personnel affairs are merged? When we call accounting, a general meaning comes to mind, but when company’s’ departmental processes and job descriptions are regarded, depending on the size of the company, or whether the company receives financial consultancy services, we confront a department whose activity areas change from company to company. They talk using the terms legal regulations, records, figures, penalties, application changes, invoice, current account, trial balance, tax declarations (VAT, Brief, Advance Tax, Institutions, Ba-Bs), and sometimes bank accounts, payments, cash flow, reconciliation, collection. If we do not have an interest, we find their language difficult to understand, call it a torture for those who do not love, are afraid of the details, and are surprised with their familiarizing to overtime concept. Sometimes we reproach the following: I asked for a two-minute job, and he said “Today is the last day of declaration, I’ll look after you.” I gave an expense bill and he interrogated me saying “For which department did you use this, will the expenses be distributed?” As if I used for my own personal business. While these discourses are fluctuating, accounting come out and say, “We think about whether this company is in profit or loss, its income or expense, the value of the business,

its financial records and reporting, the tax liabilities to the state, look at what you discuss!” Come on, let’s settle: If the ERP software you use is integrated with accounting, please note that the records you entered affect the accounting department’s records. If the expected value of the service/product sold and their bills are not recorded correctly, it will confuse accounting integration and then the profit/loss reports. When accounting says “I will close the month”, do not miss out that they expect a serious check from other departments on their records. Do not say why you need to detail the expense. What the expense is for? Is it a budgeting expense? Which expense account will be recorded to? Is it a common expense made by different departments or should it be distributed? Remember that they seek answers to their questions, and this information affects their business processes. Do not say “immediate now, very urgent” when requesting payment, if possible, provide information in advance. Creating a payment plan, getting confirmation and organizing enough amount in the bank can not be instantaneous jobs. A transaction with prior confirmation and a confirmation from the authorized person, included on the payment list, will facilitate their work. (Not every accountant will pay, and in some companies this process can belong to the accounting.) Please do not forget to mention the expense/purchase bill of the relevant month, the concept of time is very pitiless in accounting. Here is the

accounting statement: “The transactions are recorded in time in the books.” They may even say, do not break my month concept and ask whatever you want... Putting expired bill in front of them can be written on top of the list of actions they do not like. An expense bill that you think is insignificant or small is very critical to them, because they process thousands of them. As a result, they process these records like a point lace and constitute the balance sheets, income/expense statements of big corporations. So they open the way for the executives to lead and manage the company with these tables. They do not notice the size of the numbers, the account must be correct up to a penny. This is not because of their obsession, but because of professional principles and rigid legislative provisions. Understand them to be inquisitive. When communicating with financial affairs employees, be sure to consider the periodic financial calendar. Even if there is not much time left after term closing, declaration, reporting, balance sheet, trial balance, it will be efficient for both sides to communicate at the right time. And finally, keep in your mind: experienced and knowledgeable financial affairs employees like to be referred to as “master” for as long as you use them in place and reponsibly.
