Create a hanging file labeled 'vowels'. Place the following in the file.
1. Vowel House Pattern (pg. 2) Print 4 on yellow paper, 1 on orange paper • Laminate and cut out. Place a magnet on the back. 2. Vowel ‘Wild Rivers’ (pp. 3-7) • Make three copies of each and laminate. • Make 5 or 6 copies of the ‘Write across the River’. When laminated students can write on these with Vis a Vis markers and re-use, • or use the ‘Write across the River’ as a master. Give one to each student when doing the activity. • See Cross the Wild River instruction on the video library (Kindergarten/vowels). 3. Spot the Vowel Flash Cards (pp. 8-9) Make 3 sets. Laminate, cut out and place in sets using rubber bands, envelopes, plastic baggies, etc. See Spot the Vowel instruction on the video library. 4. Vowel ‘Ladders’ (pp. 10-12) • The ‘ladders’ are another way to practice ‘spot the vowel’ for rapid vowel recognition. • Each ladder adds more vowel sounds. • Make 3 copies of each ladder and laminate or make a copy for each student. Students mark the sounds that gave them difficulty and set the goal to fix it before the next small group session. 5. Xtend Wild Rivers (pp. 13-18) Make 3 copies of each and laminate. 6. Xtend Spot the Vowel Flash Cards (pg. 19) Make 3 sets and rubber band together. 7. Xtend Ladders (pp. 20-21) Make 3 copies of each and laminate.
