Welcome to the City of Ketchikan Small Boat Harbors The City of Ketchikan operates five public boat harbors in the Ketchikan area. Harbor regulations and user fees are established by the Ketchikan Municipal Code (Title 14). We ask that you read the following information and familiarize yourself with the procedures and the services available in the Ketchikan harbors. All vessels using the harbors must register with the Harbormaster’s office at Bar Harbor, 2933 Tongass Ave. You may also register by phone at 228-5632. When registering, you will need to provide the official vessel numbers. All vessels mooring in the harbors must pay a user fee based on the overall length of the vessel. If they are in the water, auxiliary skiffs and seine skiffs will also be charged. Check out time is noon. Boats remaining in the harbor after noon will be charged for that day. If you plan to moor for less than two hours, you may use the loading zones. Loading zones are painted white and located by the ramps. There is no charge for use of the loading zones for a maximum of two hours. Payments can be made by credit card, cash or check (U.S. only). There are transient moorage areas in all the harbors. Open Moorage Permits must be purchased in advance; they are non-transferable and non-refundable. We do not automatically send out bills for permits. If you do not purchase a 30-day permit or 90-day permit in advance, you will accrue charges at the daily rate, which is the highest rate. There is a substantial savings when you purchase a 30-day or 90-day Open Moorage Permit in advance. Please note that open moorage permits for harbors do not apply at the “port” berths downtown. Separate dockage fees are charged for using port facilities.
Electricity is not included in the moorage fee. Most electric meters, whether locked or not, are privately owned by the stallholders. Do not plug into power without permission from a Harbormaster. The Harbor Department provides power at Casey Moran Float and a few other designated open moorage sites. There is a charge for electricity. When paying for moorage, let us know if you used electricity or we will send a bill for electricity use at the end of each month. Potable water is available on all floats. Containers for used oil are provided at the top of most ramps. There are pump-out stations at Casey Moran (corner of Float 5), North Bar Harbor (between Floats10 & 11) and Thomas Basin (corner of Float 1 & 5). Restrooms and showers are available at the Harbormaster’s Office at North Bar Harbor. A laundry facility is available within walking distance of Bar Harbor. There are three fuel docks in Ketchikan. Two are located at the south end of town near the USCG BaseKetchikan and one is at the north end of town near the shipyard. Tidal grids, cranes & the drive-down ramp are by reservation only (907-228-5632) and there are usage fees for each. The gear float is located at the north end of South Bar Harbor and is available at no charge for working on nets. Mooring or gear storage is not allowed at any time. When the harbors are crowded, it is permissible to moor alongside another vessel in an open moorage area. We ask that you use adequate fenders & mooring lines when rafting.
