COMMENTS

17 members of Penticton Fire, Summerland Fire and Penticton Indian Band Fire all responded along with boats to a vehicle in the lake. Crews were able to access vehicle from shore and responders in dry suits extricated the single subject in cardiac arrest from underwater. Subject was transported to hospital by BCAS. 13 Shuswap SAR members responded to an RCMP request for an overdue quadder in the Fly Hills area near Salmon Arm. The SAR team located the sledder and assisted him to safety. 4 North Shore Rescue members responded to meet with the RCMP to discuss a search in the Lynn Canyon Park area for a male that had entered the park with the intention of self harm. After initial discussions with RCMP a decision was made not to initiate a search because of the lack of concrete information. RCMP later advised the subject was located alive in Richmond. 5 members of Creston SAR responded to search for a missing male near Kootenay Lake in Creston. An initial search of the area had negative results and SAR was stood down by police. 13 Central Okanagan SAR, Penticton and Oliver/Osoyoos SAR members responded to search for a missing male who was last seen at his residence on Glencoe Road in West Kelowna on 30 Dec. SAR was stood down pending further investigation by police. 14 Vernon SAR members responded to investigate report of a person falling through the ice on the north end of Swan Lake in Vernon. On scene SAR members determined the subject was either a beaver or an otter. 3 Robson Valley SAR members responded by helicopter to rescue a snowmobiler with a broken leg an hour into the bush off the end of Mountainview Road near McBride. The patient was brought out and turned over to BCAS for transport to hospital. 5 Whistler SAR members responded to search for lost skiers who went out-of-bounds from Whistler Resort. SAR located the skiers and brought them out to the road for transport back. 17 Comox Valley SAR members responded to search along the Island Highway near Black Creek for a missing male. Subject was located deceased and turned over to RCMP and the Coroner. 7 South Columbia, Nelson and Castlegar SAR members responded to rescue an unconscious

SAR was stood down when subject was brought out by others for hand-over to BCAS. 5 COSAR and 1 Vernon SAR members responded to search for three out of bounds snowboarders at Big White. The three snowboarders made their own way to the truck in the parking lot and the SAR response was concluded. 6 Squamish SAR members responded to rescue a sick male in Garibaldi Park. The patient was recovered by SAR in a helicopter and passed to BCAS without incident. 17 Surrey, 4 Central Fraser Valley and 2 Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to search for a 62 year old male with diminished capacity in the area of 120th street in Surrey. Subject was located alive and well. 4 Fernie SAR members responded to rescue a snowmobiler suffering from severe chest pains 10 km from the Morrissey Snowmobiling staging area in Fernie. Subject was delivered to the hospital. 3 Squamish SAR members responded to 2 possible lost or overdue snowmobilers in the Squamish Valley, near the hydro dam. Subjects were located at home and SAR was stood. 22 Arrowsmith SAR members responded to rescue a lost female hiker in the Englishman River Falls area, near Parksville. Subject was found in good condition and escorted out 2 Arrow Lakes SAR members responded to rescue an injured recreationist near Galena's Lodge, South of Revelstoke. Subject was packaged and heli-vac'd out and handed over to BCAS for transport to hospital. 3 Squamish SAR members responded to investigate a flare sighting in the area of Garibaldi Way and Government Road in Squamish. SAR was stood down by police who determined this was a non-event. 15 North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue 7 stranded hikers on Howe Sound Crest Trail in North Vancouver. The subjects were located in good condition and escorted out to their vehicles. 9 Revelstoke SAR members responded to assist with a lost female hiker in Greely Bowl, just outside of the boundaries of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Subject was located, in good condition, and escorted out by SAR members. 8 Chilliwack SAR responded to search a partially submerged vehicle in the slough on Ballam Road. Subject was located deceased inside vehicle and turned over to the Coroner. 21 Comox Valley SAR responded to a vehicle in the water in Courtenay. Subject was located deceased

Subject suffered a lower limb injury and was transferred to BCAS for transport to hospital. 1 Revelstoke SAR responded to rescue 2 or 4 stranded snowmobilers on Boulder Mountain. SAR was stood down prior to mustering when it was determined that subjects were safe in a cabin and would make their own way down. 4 Pemberton SAR responded to rescue an injured snowmobiler in the Pemberton Ice Caps area near Pemberton. Injured subject was rescued via helicopter and passed off to BCAS. 4 Whistler SAR responded to rescue an injured male in Garibaldi Provincial Park. The man was picked up by helicopter and passed to BCAS for transport to hospital. 6 Hope and 3 Mission SAR members responded to rescue an injured snowmobiler, near Boston Bar. SAR brought subject out and turned him over to BCAS. 13 North Shore Rescue members responded to rescue an injured male snow shoer. Subject was brought out and turned over to family members who took him for medical treatment. 6 Whistler SAR members responded to search for a missing 11 year old boy on the Whistler Ski hill. The subject was located in good condition off mountain after he had skied out and taken a wrong bus and SAR was stood down. ELT - 1

WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT 04-10 JAN 2016

DANGEROUS GOODS

On 04 Jan 16, a UPS facility in Nanaimo evacuated when a parcel was discovered leaking barium chloride. The Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to a Code 2 (Urgent Status) for notification purposes. The incident was immediately downgraded. On 06 Jan 16, Kimberley Municipality crews stuck and broke a Fortis BC line while conducting routine maintenance resulting in the evacuation of 12 residents in the surrounding area. The Ministry of Environment Response Officer (MOE RO) raised the incident to a Code 2 (Urgent Status). MISCELLANEOUS On 04 Jan 16, North Cariboo Highway Rescue responded to assist Quesnel Fire Rescue with their auto extrication tools to rescue a person stuck in a collapsed steel building. On 06 Jan 16, Kimberley Fire Chief and EPC responded to assist 12 residences that were displaced from their homes due to a natural gas leak in Kimberley. 2 residents required alternate arrangements as the rest of the impacted residents were able to make alternate arrangements. On 06 Jan 16, Princeton Rescue assisted BCAS in a medical rescue of a patient in palliative care in a residence inaccessible by ambulance. On 10 Jan 16, Sicamous Rescue responded to a BCAS request to assist at the scene of a possible embankment rescue for a subject that had reportedly fell over into Eagle River. Crews were stood down on scene after subject was able to self-rescue.
