It is a time of newness… by Father Jesús

H

ere we go again! Another liturgical year has gone away; a new one is upon us. Like it or not, time is carrying us forward. Advent is here. Having come full circle to a new beginning. I can feel it! You can feel it! Something new is coming. We may wonder if there is anything new under the sun. We have heard the texts before; we know the hymns by heart. We can anticipate what John the Baptizer, Paul, Luke, Jeremiah, Isaiah and the other prophets are going to say even before their words are proclaimed in our midst. However, newness, life, that sense of hope and unity is alive everywhere. That is what Advent is all about. Advent is a time of newness. It is a time to undergo a joyful conversion. It is a time to seek for the only one that is truly necessary in life: God. As we make our way from the church to the mall and marketplace, to work and to play, we quickly realize that we have become experts of this season. We will make the lists and do the shopping; we will wrap the presents and decorate the tree. We will write the cards and bake the cookies. We will attend the parties and when the Christmas story is read, we will mouth the words that have become so indelibly engraved upon our memories and hearts:“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). By God’s grace the words we have spoken and heard for years will challenge us to shake off what may have become rote and routine and awaken to the ever fresh newness of God, present and alive among us! Tell it to everybody that God is among us! This is the fresh newness we have at the beginning of this new liturgical year: Jesus Christ. The Lord made his dwelling within us. Now nothing can be the same. All things can be possible. God’s gift of Jesus has communicated new meaning and new direction to every individual human story.

History, because of God’s word to us in Jesus, is no longer a cyclic repetition of similar events but a linear movement with a beginning, a purpose and goals, all of which originate and are subsumed in God. Each advent gives a return to the beginning but it is always a new beginning. Each and every one of us has the fantastic opportunity to start all over again each Advent. In the midst of a world where God is seldom felt, we yearn to experience God again, for the first time. As we gather every Sunday as one community of faith, we trust that memory and hope will come alive; this trust is not misplaced because the word, as it is proclaimed, is a living entity, speaking a new message, in a new manner, in a new year, to a people who long to be new again. Each Sunday of Advent the word of God calls us to reach beyond rote and routine and to move from cyclical rehearsal to personal breakthrough. My dear people let us be vigilant. It is time to change. Let us put ourselves an in position to be found by God, his forgiveness, his love, his compassion, and his mercy. And as a response to his great love for us, let us reach out to many by our care, love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, faith and trust in God. May God bless you always!!! Fr. Jesus Peralta

APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION EVANGELII GAUDIUM OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL 60. Today’s economic mechanisms promote inordinate consumption, yet it is evident that unbridled consumerism combined with inequality proves doubly damaging to the social fabric. Inequality eventually engenders a violence which recourse to arms cannot and never will be able to resolve. It serves only to offer false hopes to those clamouring for heightened security, even though nowadays we know that weapons and violence, rather than providing solutions, create new and more serious conflicts. Some simply content themselves with blaming the poor and the poorer countries themselves for their troubles; indulging in unwarranted generalizations, they claim that the solution is an “education” that would tranquilize them, making them tame and harmless. All this becomes even more exasperating for the marginalized in the light of the widespread and deeply rooted corruption found in many countries – in their governments, businesses and institutions – whatever the political ideology of their leaders. 4

Thanksgiving is over and now the season of Advent arrives. This means that you are very close to celebrating Christmas. I know how much everyone likes this season because of the decorations, the gifts, the parties and of course the fact t h a t you will celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is indeed a very joyous occasion and it is right to celebrate it. I just want to recommend to all of you not to pass the season of Advent without knowing what this time is all about. It is the time to be in expectation, in waiting for

the coming of Jesus into the earth. Even though he was born so many years ago, like over 2000 years, it is still worth to wait for him by praying and by knowing that He will come again. So don’t rush into the Christmas spirit, better yet let the anticipation drive you a little crazy and nervous about it. It is hard to believe that the master is celebrating his 30th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood this Monday I wish him the best and many more years of Priesthood since he loves what he is doing. quí vamos una vez más! Acaba de pasar un año litúrgico, y llega uno nuevo ante nosotros. Nos guste o no el tiempo corre y nos arrastra consigo. Llegó el Adviento. El circulo completo nos lleva a un nuevo comienzo. ¡Lo puedo sentir y ustedes también! Viene algo nuevo. Nos preguntamos si hay algo nuevo bajo el sol. Hemos escuchado las lecturas anteriormente; nos sabemos los himnos de memoria. Podemos anticipar lo que san Juan bautista, san Pablo, san Lucas, Jeremías e Isaías y otros profetas van a decir antes de que se proclamen sus palabras. Sin embargo, la novedad, la vida, ese sentimiento de esperanza y unidad está vivo por todos lados. De eso se trata el Adviento. Una temporada nueva. Tiempo para experimentar una conversión alegre. Una temporada para buscar al Único que es verdaderamente necesario en la vida: a Dios. Al salir de la iglesia para ir al mall o al mercado, al trabajo o a jugar, rápidamente nos damos cuenta de que nos hemos hecho expertos en esta temporada. Hacemos las listas de compras, envolvemos los regalos y decoramos el árbol; enviamos las tarjetas de Navidad y hacemos las galletas; asistimos a fiestas y reuniones y cuando leen una historia de Navidad, recitamos las palabras que se han quedado grabadas indeleblemente en nuestras memorias y corazones: “Y la Palabra se hizo carne y habitó entre nosotros. Y nosotros hemos visto su gloria, la gloria que recibe del Padre como Hijo único, lleno de gracia y de verdad” (Jn. 1:14). Por la gracia de Dios las palabras que hemos dicho y escuchado durante años nos animan a sacudirnos de lo que podría haberse convertido en costumbre y rutina y despertar a la novedad de Dios, presente y vivo entre nosotros! Díganle a todos que Dios está entre nosotros! Esta es la fresca novedad que tenemos al inicio de este año litúrgico: Jesucristo. El Señor hizo su morada entre nosotros. Ahora nada puede ser igual. Todas

las cosas pueden ser posibles. Jesús, regalo de Dios ha comunicado un nuevo significado a nuevo rumbo a cada historia de cada ser humano. Historia por la Palabra de Dios a nosotros en Jesús, porque ya no es una repetición cíclica de eventos similares sino un movimiento linear con un inicio, un propósito y con metas, todo se origina y subsume (concluye) en Dios. Cada Adviento da vuelta al principio pero siempre es un nuevo comienzo. Todos y cada uno de nosotros tenemos la oportunidad fantástica de comenzar de nuevo cada Adviento. En medio de un mundo donde Dios rara vez se siente, anhelamos experimentar a Dios una vez más, por primera vez. Al reunirnos cada domingo como una comunidad de fe, confiamos que la memoria y la esperanza se hagan vivas; esta confianza no está fuera de lugar porque la palabra, mientras se proclama, es una entidad vida, dando un nuevo mensaje, de una nuevo modo, a un pueblo que anhela ser nuevo otra vez. Cada domingo de Adviento, la palabra de Dios nos llama a ir más allá de la costumbre y la rutina y a movernos de un ensayo circular a un avance personal. Mi gente querida, estemos atentos. Es tiempo de cambio. Pongámonos en una posición donde seamos encontrados por Dios, donde encontremos su perdón, su amor, su compasión y su misericordia. Y en respuesta a su grandioso amor por nosotros, lleguemos a muchos con nuestro atención, amor, misericordia, compasión, perdón, fe y confianza en Dios. EXHORTACIÓN APOSTÓLICA DEL PAPA FRANCISCO La alegría del Evangelio (EVANGELII GAUDIUM) No a la inequidad que genera violencia 60. Los mecanismos de la economía actual promueven una exacerbación del consumo, pero resulta que el consumismo desenfrenado unido a la inequidad es doblemente dañino del tejido social. Así la inequidad genera tarde o temprano una violencia que las carreras armamentistas no resuelven ni resolverán jamás. Sólo sirven para pretender engañar a los que reclaman mayor seguridad, como si hoy no supiéramos que las armas y la represión violenta, más que aportar soluciones, crean nuevos y peores conflictos. Algunos simplemente se regodean culpando a los pobres y a los países pobres de sus propios males, con indebidas generalizaciones, y pretenden encontrar la solución en una «educación» que los tranquilice y los convierta en seres domesticados e inofensivos. Esto se vuelve todavía más irritante si los excluidos ven crecer ese cáncer social que es la corrupción profundamente arraigada en muchos países —en sus gobiernos, empresarios e instituciones— cualquiera que sea la ideología política de los gobernantes. 6

MEMORIAS DE TONY

El día de acción de gracias ya ha pasado y ahora llega la temporada de Adviento. Esto significa que están muy cerca de celebrar la Navidad. Sé cuánto les encanta esta temporada por todas las decoraciones, regalos, fiestas y claro está el hecho de que celebrarán el nacimiento de Jesús. Es sin duda una ocasión muy alegre y hay que celebrar. Quiero recomendarle a todos que no dejen pasar la temporada de Ad-

viento sin comprender lo que significa este tiempo. Es tiempo de expectativa, de esperar la venida de Jesús a la tierra. A pesar de que él nació hace más de dos mil años vale la pena esperarle rezando y sabiendo que Él vendrá de nuevo. Así que no se apresuren, mas bien permitan que ese sentimiento de anticipo los enloquezca un poco y los ponga un poco nerviosos. Es difícil de creer pero el amo celebrará 30 años de sacerdocio este lunes. Le deseo todo lo mejor y muchos años más de sacerdocio, porque él ama lo que hace. Feliz mes de diciembre. Guau, guau.

TREINTA (30) AÑOS DE SACERDOCIO Quiero agradecer al Señor Jesús por haberme llamado al sacerdocio. Ya han sido treinta (30) años este 30 de noviembre cuando fui me ordenaron como sacerdote en la Catedral de Paterson y celebré mi primer Misa aquí en St. Margaret. Es un honor que hoy sea su párroco y quiero darles las gracias por hacer de estos casi diez (10) años aquí todo un deleite y una oportunidad de crecer en santidad de vida. Estoy muy agradecido con mi madre quien siempre estuvo allí para mi cada día de mi ministerio y mi maravillosa familia apoyando mi trabajo. Cómo me puedo olvidar de mi papá que también disfrutaba verme trabajando fuerte y predicando el Evangelio de Cristo a las gentes. También gracias al equipo pastoral que trabaja conmigo asegurándose de cumplir con todas las necesidades de la parroquia cada día y por ayudarme a ser un buen sacerdote y párroco. Oren por mi para que yo siempre haga la voluntad de Dios amándole sobre todas las cosas y amando a mis hermanos y hermanas. Oremos juntos para que el Señor toque las vidas de muchos jóvenes y ellos respondan a este llamado de esta hermosa forma de vida.

Acompáñenos en la Procesión Pro-vida en honor a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Sábado, 12 de diciembre Será inmediatamente después de la Misa de las 8 AM. Saldremos de la parroquia en procesión con la imagen de la Virgen hacia Planned Parenthood en la Speedwell Avenue, donde rezaremos el santo rosario y la coronilla de la Divina Misericordia.

ADORACIÓN EUCARÍSTICA No olviden que el Señor espera que ustedes le visiten y vengan a pasar tiempo con él. Siempre me da mucho gusto escuchar de tantas personas la bendición tan grande que ha sido tener la capilla aquí. Es difícil de creer pero tenemos más o menos doscientas (200) personas visitando la capilla semanalmente. Así que únase y conviértase en una persona más que venga cada semana a pasar tiempo con Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento. Aquí experimentarán una gran paz y serenidad. No me canso de animarlos para que vengan a la Capilla de adoración. CAMPANAS DE BODA El pasado sábado, 14 de noviembre, Nodier Muñoz y Stephanie Gallo se casaron en nuestra iglesia. Felicitaciones a ellos y les deseamos muchas bendiciones en su vida matrimonial.

BENDICIÓN DE LA PUERTA SANTA Como ustedes saben, nuestra parroquia será 1 de las 2 parroquias de toda la diócesis en tener una Puerta santa para el Año de la misericordia.
