PlanetDISK® RBC Unit is a fixed film reactor system consisting of circular disks made of non-corrosive, virgin, High Density PolyPropylene (HDPP), mounted on a solid chrome-coated steel shaft rotating at a speed of less than 4 rpm (revolutions per minute, watch in presentation mode the above picture).



During the rotation, 40% of the disks are immersed in wastewater.



RBC process is widely used in the world since 1960s. Due to its simplicity in operation and energy saving mechanism, its popularity continues!

How does RBC treat the Wastewater?

PlanetDISK 





Rotation of the rotor exposes biomass built up on “special surface” of disks to oxygen, allowing organisms grow and multiply. Dissolved oxygen and organic matter in wastewater populate the biomass to be metabolized. Once the biomass thickness on disk reaches 1-2.5 mm excess biomass shears off naturally by gravity; as the disks turn the process repeats itself; no big surprise there; the genious is in the long-lasting quality and design and the patented process we engineered for you. RBC vs Activated Sludge (AS) 1. In most AS systems, the quality, age and the physical properties of the sludge must be observed by trained personnel for consistent results. Such systems heavily depend on human factor and therefore, very often the system fails! 2. In PlanetDISK® RBC system, the aging sludge shears off at a steady rate by gravity as the disks turn.

3. RBC system requires less attention - less maintenance. Therefore provides consistent treatment results. RBC vs Activated Sludge (AS) 1. In AS system, the forced air is blown into the wastewater via blowers that use much energy. A typical AS blower for 250 people / day uses 4-5kw. 1. In RBC system, the rotation of the rotor exposes biomass on disks to oxygen, allowing organisms to multiply. 4 rpm and reduction gear consumes less than 0.37 kW for a typical 300-400 people /day community PlanetDISK® unit. This new design and process principles of PlanetDISK® is protected by Patent Institute of Turkey since May 2011. It contains 8 pizza slices design that allows sludge to slide freely off the surface of the disks. The disks also can be replaced w/o removing the whole rotor and the body. Pie shaped disks are preferred most recently in the USA, Canada and some British models only. New PlanetDISK® model has 750 sqm disk surface area that is capable of treating typical domestic wastewater at a rate of 250-500 people/day (70 m3/day) and runs on 0.37kW motor and a specialized reduction gear set!
