RESULTS The data generated during this testing indicated that airborne concentrations of Hydrogen Sulfide measured during the use of both treatment products were below the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of ten parts per million (ppm) established by the U. S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

SAMPLING STRATEGY The testing strategy developed for this survey called for the measurement of Hydrogen Sulfide levels using a direct-reading instrument. Measurements were made at seven locations; five inside the treatment building to evaluate indoor conditions; one in the garage located adjacent to the treatment area and one outside the exit door of the treatment building to evaluate exterior conditions. Testing was conducted in a manner to compare the levels of Hydrogen Sulfide generated during the use of the Potassium Permanganate treatment product during the first two hours of the morning shift and the use of the new ‘BioSafe Systems’ GC PRO Oxidizer during the next two hours of the work shift.

SUMMARY On January 29, 2009, URS Corporation (URS) visited the Housatonic Waste Water Treatment Plant in Milford, CT to conduct measurements of Hydrogen Sulfide gas levels within the treatment facility. The scope of this testing was to measure the Hydrogen Sulfide levels at various locations during process operations using two different treatment products. The Hydrogen Sulfide measurements were made in two separate two-hour periods.
