1. ANIMALS ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELY TO ANIMALS (RSPCA) Services: The RSPCA provides animal welfare, rehousing and addresses cases of animal cruelty. The Society’s work includes caring for homeless animals, those in need, “surrendered” animals eg. elderly carer admitted into long term care, animals which have been left behind by carers and rescued animals. The Society works closely with local vets.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes: leadership roles eg. Branch President; administration; caring for animals in the volunteer’s own home (need to have the right facilities such as fencing and/or shelter); and fundraising. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  animal husbandry skills  love of animals  kind hearted  willingness to advocate on behalf of animals  resilient  team member  willingness to help raise funds. Training, trials and checks, etc: On-the-job training and programs relevant to care of animals and rules and regulations via the internet; as well as possible opportunities to attend conferences (funded through local branch). 2. CHILDREN & YOUTH Budawang School for Special Purpose Services: The school caters exclusively to students between the ages of 4 to 20 with a severe or moderate intellectual disability – some students have varying degrees of physical disability. The school is an educational facility providing individual education plans, care and emotional support as a student progresses over time towards transition to work or community participation programs. Priorities include health and well-being, communication skills, curriculum focus, student engagement and community partnerships.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes classroom, outdoor and community based activities such as: cooking; gardening; music; technology; art and craft; sensory and communication; bike riding; shopping; swimming and banking. The school welcomes volunteers with a disability. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  flexible  caring  patient  resilient  individual strengths/ skills are matched to activities. New ideas are encouraged. CareSouth – Aunties & Uncles Program Services: CareSouth is a Not-for-Profit organisation providing responsive care and support services to strengthen individuals and communities. The Aunties & Uncles program provides support to children aged between 3 and 12 years from vulnerable or disadvantaged families. The program links children with appropriate volunteer role models.

Volunteering opportunities: Aunties &/or Uncles volunteer carers provide care, quality time, support, friendship and mentoring for a minimum of 1 weekend a month. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  must be over 21  can come from all walks of life including singles, couples and families  have a friendly nature  enjoy spending time with children  previous experience caring for children  current driver’s licence  a registered car  comprehensive car insurance  home & contents insurance. Girl Guides & Scouts Girl Guides: Guides provides opportunities for girls and young women to develop strong leadership and life skills to assist them to grow into confident, self respecting and responsible community members. Guides undertake a variety of activities which, depending on the age group and interests, may include: crafts; sewing, games; wood-working; painting; and outdoor activities such as rock climbing, bushwalking, kayaking and camping. There are two age groupings within Guides with Junior Guides aged 7-10 years and Guides aged 10-14 years.

Scouts: Scouting aims to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual development of young people so they may play a constructive role in society as responsible citizens and as members of their local and international communities. Strong and active programs help to inspire young people to do their best and to always be prepared. The different scouting levels include: Joey Scouts (aged 6-8); Cub Scouts (aged 8-11); Scouts (aged 11-15); Venturers (aged 15-18) and Rovers (aged 18-25). Southern Shoalhaven Youth Services Services: An early intervention service for 12 – 24 year olds in the southern Shoalhaven providing a drop-in service, professional advice and support, access to youth/case workers, parenting support to parents of teens and to parents under 24, recreational and life skills programs.

Volunteering opportunities: Management Committee members, administration activities, assistance with lifestyle and recreational programs such as music, art and cooking and the drop-in programs. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  passion/genuine interest in working with young people  an understanding of the barriers faced by youth  ability to work in a sometimes challenging environment  ability to see and foster the positive potential in each young person  a nonjudgemental and open attitude  sense of humour. 3. COMMUNITY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Community Technology Centre (CTC) – Ulladulla Services: Information technology (IT) support to seniors including one-on-one training and small groups. Facilities and services also include:  Internet Cafe  emailing  computer use  administration  scanning  faxing  laminating  computer help  training  room and equipment hire  Seniors PC club. A small fee applies for all services.

Volunteering opportunities:  Assisting CTC coordinator with IT support to individuals and groups  reception/front desk activities  organising volunteer rosters. COMMUNITY RESOURCES CENTRE Ulladulla & Districts Community Resources Centre Services: Includes a Community Worker; Domestic Violence Support Worker; Admin Support Worker; educational workshops; assistance with forms, information and referral; phone/fax service; photocopying and lamination; computer access; meeting room for hire and Men’s projects. Visiting services include: Legal Aid Family Law; Shoalcoast Community Legal Service; gambling counselling; Essential Personnel; Lifeline Financial Counselling; Probation and Parole; Brighter Futures (family & childhood early intervention).

Volunteering opportunities: Includes being a member of the Management Committee, reception and administration duties, assisting with the Ulladulla Food Store (pilot), tax help and project work as required such as community education, fundraising and men’s health initiatives. 6. COMMUNITY TRANSPORT Community Transport Aid – Ulladulla Milton & Districts Inc. Services: Provides car transport to eligible clients who live within the Lower Shoalhaven area (ie Manyana to Durras North) to attend medical or health related appointments. Areas of travel include both local and distant such as Sydney, Wollongong, and Canberra.

Volunteering opportunities:  Drivers (cars) (long and short distances)  Coordinators. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  patience  flexibility  good people skills  ability to relate well to others  understanding and caring attitude. Drivers are required to have current Class C Driver’s Licence and a good driving record. Training, trials and checks, etc: Drivers attend approx. 6 hours of in-house training provided by an experienced CTA volunteer. Coordinators are provided with on-the-job training by an experienced coordinator. Volunteers are required to undertake a Police Check as part of the preselection process (paid for by the CTA). Shoalhaven Community Transport Service Inc. Services: Provides door to door transport aimed at assisting eligible clients, living in the community, maintain their independent lifestyle - including frail aged persons, a person with a disability and their carer, a person who is unable to catch public transport, or does not have access to their own transport. Transport is provided to medical appointments, shopping, visits to nursing homes/hospital, library, etc.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes bus and car drivers, and bus driver’s assistant who helps clients on, off and within the bus such as securing seatbelts and assisting with walking aids etc. Long distance driving may be required. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  empathy  caring nature  desire to help others. Bus drivers require a current LR Licence or above  car drivers require a current Class C Licence. Training, trials and checks, etc: Induction training and training relevant to the role of the volunteer is provided. Police and Working with Children Checks apply. Drivers need to provide an RTA driver’s record (cost reimbursed if the applicant is accepted by the organisation after the trial period. 7. COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEMES Anglicare Volunteer Home Visiting Services: Provides free practical and social support in the home or in the community for approximately 2 hrs per week to families with young children. Activities may include supporting families to connect to their community; practical support with the children to provide a break for the carer; and support of parents in daily routines.

Volunteering opportunities: Home visitor supporting a family with young children (at least 1 of whom is under the age of 3). Once a volunteer is accepted as suitable, post training, the individual is matched with a family for a period of 3 months. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.: Experience as a parent  Passion for working with families and children  good listener  flexible  reliable  compassionate  respect for the rights of others  willingness to undertake comprehensive training. Training, trials and checks, etc: 7 week training program and on-going assessment – not all trainees who complete training/assessment may be accepted to positions (discussed during post training interviews). Australian Red Cross – Community Visitor Scheme Services: Engages volunteers who, by making regular visits, can help to alleviate the loneliness residents living in nursing homes, hostels and aged care facilities can experience due to limited contact with friends, family and the wider community.

Volunteering opportunities: Making a difference to the life of an elderly person living in accommodation mentioned above, through social visits of 1 – 2 hrs per fortnight. Assists an elderly person to feel more connected with their community and relieve feelings of isolation. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  compassionate  caring  flexible  reliable  respectful of others  excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Training, trials and checks, etc: Training and induction is provided, as well as ongoing support and training opportunities. Police Checks apply and signing of Code of Conduct. Shoalhaven Palliative Care Volunteer Service Inc. Services: Volunteers within the service provide respite for carers and companionship to Palliative Care patients in the Shoalhaven area. The volunteer’s role is to strengthen the ability of an ill person and their family to live as richly and as fully as possible. The service also provides financial assistance for the hire of equipment for the home eg., beds and wheelchairs.

Volunteering opportunities: Providing 3 hours per week support of a patient and family through for eg., warmth and compassion of someone who listens, hand and foot massage, transport and help with shopping and visits to the GP. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  life skills  compassion a listening ear  time. Training, trials and checks, etc: 9 days of face-to-face training using the Victorian Care training model and 15 hours of on-the-ward work at Karinya, David Berry Hospital with a buddy. 8. DAY CENTRES–HEALTH-MEALS-SOCIAL SUPPORT Day Centres: Life Without Barriers – Day Program Services: Provides innovative community-based services for people with a disability, children and young people in crisis and people with a mental health issue, including those from Indigenous and all other cultural backgrounds. Programs include: Transition to Work for school leavers with a disability to enhance employment/community opportunities. Personcentred programs designed to meet individual needs and interests: art/cooking/ceramics/creative dance/computers/ music/fishing/paper-making/beauty therapy/ yoga.

Volunteering opportunities: Based on volunteer’s personal interests and skills such as: art; cooking; ceramics; computers; music; fishing; paper making; beauty therapy; yoga; creative dance and woodworking. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  be inclusive  compassionate  patient  positive focus on individual’s strengths, abilities and interests  willing to participate with clients  reliable & regularly available. Ulladulla Respite Service & Friends Group Services: Support and activities for older people, people with dementia and their carers. The service conducts groups for older people and people living with memory loss who are living at home with a carer or at home with a carer visiting regularly.

Volunteering opportunities: Day programs are planned and facilitated by qualified staff with the assistance of volunteer workers. Programs include games, guest speakers, drama, story writing, quizzes, craft, sing-a-longs and outings. Volunteers needed: Tuesdays & Fridays, 9.30am – 2.30pm. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  understanding of aged care needs  compassionate  willing to be part of a team  good communication skills. Training, trials and checks, etc: On-the-job training provided such as Dementia education and food handling. Criminal Record Check applies – paid for by organisation. Health: Community Health Centre - Ulladulla Services: A variety of health related programs are conducted throughout the year to meet the needs of the community. Programs change on a regular basis - past programs include: Falls and Injury Prevention; Healthy Weight; Tobacco and Health and walking groups.

Volunteering opportunities: Volunteers are often needed to help run the programs depending on the content. Meals, Social Support & Activities: Southern Shoalhaven Zone Meals on Wheels Inc. Services: Provides nutritional assistance and social support to enable frail aged and younger people with disabilities and their carers to live independently in the community. The Food Service provides frozen meals to clients in their home several times a week - a Carers Run exists for those unable to heat their own meals. The Social Support program provides accompanied outings to local appointments and social activities as well as home visits to people who are isolated and lonely. Additionally on a monthly basis a men’s group , two craft groups and a vision impaired group operate.

Volunteering opportunities: Meal service, home visits, accompanied outings, social support and positions on the Management Committee. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  have compassion  empathy  reliable honest  willing to learn new skills  willing to attend training  good listener polite  patient  punctual Training, trials and checks, etc: Orientation/induction training provided plus possible opportunities to attend short programs such as food handling, 1st Aid – depending on role. Social Support & Activities – Seniors: IRT Services: IRT provides a variety of services to assist seniors to achieve their optimum quality of life. Services are provided to seniors living within the wider community and those within the organisation’s lifestyle and care communities.

Volunteering opportunities: Include assisting with activities such as art; painting; games; meal times; church services; and driving the light rigid bus/van during outings. Volunteers are encouraged to nominate for the activities which best meet their interests and the variety of activities conducted within the Care Centres. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  compassionate  patient  flexible  understanding and have empathy for others. Bus/van drivers require a current LR licence or above. Training, trials and checks, etc: Induction/orientation and on-the-job training relevant to the role. Volunteers undertake a registration process including a Police Check (paid for by orgn) – a police record does not necessarily disqualify a person from being accepted (depending on the offence) - final decision is made by Employee Services Dept. 9. EMERGENCY, DISASTER & RESCUE SERVICES Marine Rescue NSW – Ulladulla Unit Services: The service is committed to saving lives at sea and provides vital safety services to boaters through help, support and advice. Services include log on/off radio service, radio club, search and rescue and education.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes: radio operators; search and rescue crew members; administration and computer operators; assistance with market stalls and fundraising; collecting donations at shows and sporting matches. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  life experience  willingness to be part of a team and to undertake regular training related to volunteer role  satisfaction from helping others  patience  ability to keep calm in a crisis. Radio operators require good hearing ability. Training, trials and checks, etc: A variety of training is provided relevant to the specific role such as First Aid, defibrillation and oxygen therapy, basic meteorology, navigation and seamanship. Rural Fire Brigades (RFB) Rural Fire Brigade Branches include: Bawley Point, Fishermans Paradise, Lake Conjola, Milton & Tabourie. Volunteer roles include opportunities for fire-fighters; communications; catering; logistics; and planning. State Emergency Services (SES) Services: Assists the community in times of storm, flood and emergency. Activities include: removing fallen trees/limbs from roofs; chain-sawing; road closures; searches of land and inland waterways eg. for missing person/s); flood rescue; education of community. Also assists other Regions during times of extreme need such as aftermath of a flood. Volunteering opportunities: Planning, training, education, field op’s, communication, logistics, media, support roles. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  willingness to be part of a team  genuine interest in helping others in times of need  life skills . Training, trials and checks, etc: Induction/orientation program, 1st Aid and nationally accredited training modules relevant to the role for eg. chainsaw/communication/radio operations. ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION Bushcare Groups Services: The Bushcare program is designed to promote the ecologically sustainable management of natural bushland and rainforest areas and provides an opportunity for community members to be actively involved in directly improving their local environment.

Volunteering opportunities: Volunteers attend weekly for approx. 2 hrs. The work includes weeding, planting, track maintenance/construction, pruning and maintaining the native vegetation areas/environments. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  reliable  have general gardening skills  able to work well with others and take simple directions. Training, trials and checks, etc: The groups are supported by Council which provides free training relevant to the work carried out eg. safe use of chemicals and plant identification. Volunteers need long sleeves/long pants/suitable footwear – other tools and equipment are supplied by Council. Registration is via a registration form sent to Council. Contact: see following page

11. FUNDRAISING–OPPORTUNITY SHOPS–WELFARE

Australian Red Cross, Milton-Ulladulla Branch Services: Assists in any local disasters; provides a Telecross (ie a daily phone call to check on an isolated person’s wellbeing 365 days a year); makes trauma teddies (hand knitted bears given free via hospital/ambulance and medical services).

Volunteering opportunities: Telecross workers; knitters of Trauma Teddies; making cards; jams and knitted items to sell at market stalls to help fundraising; and opportunity to join in the monthly meetings. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  friendly, cheery voice for the Telecross service  punctual  craft and cooking skills. Cancer Outpatients Appeal of Milton Ulladulla Inc. Services: The Appeal provides funding and support programs for cancer patients, family members and carers, the Milton Cancer Centre and its volunteers. Dunn & Lewis Youth Development Foundation Services: Creates new opportunities for young people in the local community. The organisation focuses on initiatives that positively contribute to young people’s personal, social and vocational wellbeing.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes a variety of activities, eg. computer/IT; administration; gardening; helping in the Art Gallery and with tourism promotion; as well as assisting with catering activities as needed. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  be well mannered  able to follow instructions  polite and respectful of others. Training, trials and checks, etc: Induction training is provided as well as on-the-job and in-house programs relevant to the volunteer’s work and as needed. Some screening checks may apply depending on the type of work being carried out. A record does not necessarily disqualify a person from becoming a volunteer. Milton Ulladulla Branch United Hospital Auxiliaries NSW Inc. Services: The hospital’s aim is to provide the best possible health care for the community from qualified health care workers. The Hospital Auxiliary raises funds on behalf of the hospital for the purchase of additional hospital equipment for the benefit of patients and patient care.

Volunteering opportunities: Assisting with fundraising for additional hospital equipment; assisting Physiotherapy Dept. (e.g. pool/ hydrotherapy activities) and Day Respite Centre; visiting patients; emergency packs for unplanned admissions. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  good communication  willing to follow organisational policies/procedures & be part of a team  caring  compassionate  follow privacy & confidentiality regulations. Training, trials & checks, etc: Orientation programs and annual mandated updates as well as training relevant to the role such as food handling. Volunteers will preferably already have a current First Aid certificate. Criminal Record/Working with Children Checks apply (paid for by orgn). Current vaccinations needed (usually free by GP). Outreach Centre – Uniting Church of Australia Services: The Centre provides assistance and service to the community in times of need. A variety of items are sold through the Centre eg. second-hand clothing, books and small household items available at very reasonable prices.

Volunteering opportunities: Assisting in the Centre (shop) through sales, service, stocking racks and shelves and sorting of items prior to re-sale. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  integrity  a pleasant manner  good communication and people skills  tidy  good health and reliable. Training, trials and checks, etc: On-the-job training is provided by the supervisors. Volunteers need to complete an application form and a trial basis applies for the initial period. St Vincent de Paul Society – Ulladulla Services: Assists those in need to overcome an immediate crisis. Services include family support; assistance with food, clothing, prescriptions (via voucher), furniture; advocacy and referral and financial counselling.

Volunteering opportunities: Shop assistant and general shop maintenance, for eg. dusting and cleaning, sorting - for e.g. books, clothes and toys, sorting and sewing for eg. replacing lost buttons, stock control/quality assurance activities such as culling of unsuitable items and carrying out minor maintenance prior to resale, and home visiting. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  Be “Christian-hearted” through compassion and understanding of those in need  able to work well with others  good communication skills  willingness to learn new skills and be part of a team. Training, trials and checks, etc: Training is provided on-thejob and includes basic workplace safety training . A 3 month trial/probation period applies and required to pass “Good Character” declaration via Police Check (paid for by the organisation) - a record does not necessarily disqualify a person from being accepted as a volunteer. The Milton Ulladulla Entertainers Services: The purpose of the group is to raise funds through the yearly dinner and cabaret show (usually 8 sessions in total over 2 weeks). The charities supported through fundraising include: Alkira Lodge; the Rural Fire Brigade; Marine Rescue; Mollymook Surf Club; Milton-Ulladulla United Hospital Auxiliary and the Milton of the CWA branch.

Volunteering opportunities: Production cast members, costume makers, hairdressing and make-up, stage building, ticket and raffle selling and hosts for the performances. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.,:  team player  flare for the arts  flexible  reliable  good sense of humour and communication skills. The Salvation Army Services: Provides a variety of services including: Red Shield Family Store an opportunity shop which raises funds for charity through the re-sale of clothing, electrical goods and household items at reasonable prices; welfare service including professional family/legal/financial counselling, emergency aid during times of crisis and disaster relief; church activities such as youth groups, a Mums and Bubs support program, weddings, dedications and funerals.

Volunteering opportunities: Shop: pick-up and delivery, sorting items for re-sale, retail sales; administration/ computer work; marketing; welfare counselling (qualified). Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  willingness to work as part of a team  have basic skills fit for the role  honest  flexible  reliable  resilient  of good character  compassionate  good problem solving skills. Training, trials and checks, etc: On-the-job training provided such as Till operations, customer relations, health and safety. Opportunities to complete Certificate III/IV level training, 1st Aid and other programs depending on the role. 12. Surf Life Saving Clubs Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Services: Provides surf life saving activities including beach patrols in peak seasons (Sept – April) to help make beaches safer. Also provides education and support programs to the community on beach and water safety.

Volunteering opportunities: Includes beach patrol members, fundraising, administration, training/education officers, radio operators & management committee members. Personal qualities/skills/experience/qualifications, etc.:  ability to work as part of a team  good communication skills  general fitness (patrol members)  organisational skills  appreciation of the beach and its environment and a desire to help others. Training, trials and checks, etc: Includes orientation, 6 weeks of training and assessment towards Bronze Medallion and thereafter yearly assessment (ie. for patrol members), plus other training relevant to the role being carried out, for eg. training for radio operations and First Aid.
