“Beautiful young people are an accident of nature, beautiful old people are a work of art.” September 2014

– Eleanor Roosevelt

Dear Family and Friends: Excitement ills the air here at “The Home” as we gear up to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee! With our 75th anniversary rapidly approaching and many exciting projects unfolding, we are pleased to announce a new initiative: Friends of The Home. Our Friends of The Home donor-recognition society has been established to recognize donors and express our gratitude to those who have o ered generous support of “The Home” through their ongoing and signiicant gifts. (Please see the centerfold article for a full description). The Hazel and Irving Cypen Heritage Society was also launched earlier this year, honoring those donors who have included Miami Jewish Health Systems Foundation as a beneiciary in their wills, or those who have made other planned gifts through qualiied giving instruments. As always, your gifts have an immense impact on our endeavors. With the support of our benefactors this year, the members of the Girsh Memory Enrichment Institute attended two art-appreciation classes at the Lowe Art Museum on the University of Miami campus, and the residents of Hazel Cypen Tower (HCT) attended a Mozart concert at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. The Love on Wheels patient transport program also took residents to social and entertainment gatherings, plus music-therapy classes are available to everyone on campus.

A special thank you to the NOTABLES of Miami Jewish Health Systems, who recently concluded their organization’s amazing 27-year run. Their generosity allowed us to expand our network of services geared toward caregivers and those with memory disorders, such as dementia, cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. Support of these programs and services is needed now more than ever, as an estimated 44 million people around the world are currently struggling with these memory disorders. To learn more, please turn to page 18. Through the generosity of donors, we have come a long way from our original 23-bed facility. Miami Jewish Health Systems® is now one of the largest and most innovative senior healthcare providers in the Southeast United States. Strong donor commitment is not only an acknowledgement of our proven achievements, but an investment in the tremendous potential we have to make the world a better place. We are sincerely honored to count you among our family of supporters. Thank you for all you do!

Why We Do What We Do Dear Miami Jewish Health Systems, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the wonderful care you provided my mother, Rae Levenson. Mom passed away on December 27, 2013 at the age of 94. Her last two and a half years were spent in 4 Chernin where she got wonderful, attentive, compassionate, professional care. My family and I were regularly kept informed of her status, and our questions were always answered without hesitation.

Donor Next Door: LEAVE A LEGACY® Luncheon Honoring Hildine Potashnick

Thanks to all of you—the doctors, nurses, social workers, dieticians, therapists and aides—my mother’s stay was illed with positivity and love. I am most appreciative of your services and will always remember you with great warmth. Sincerely, David Levenson

To Whom It May Concern: During my husband’s stay at the rehabilitation facility, your sta conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism and integrity, as well as respect and consideration, to me and my husband. In addition to being extremely conscientious and exhibiting a consistently professional demeanor, they were kind-hearted, caring indivudals who went out of their way to help anyone in need. They always had a sincere smile for everyone they met and brightened the day of everyone they encountered. I believe your organization is very fortunate to have a sta so professional, and we feel blessed to have them helping us get through this di cult time.

As a long-time FOUNDER, I wish to comment upon the care that my wife Marianne received at the Toppel South rehab building. Upon her arrival via ambulance, she was welcomed and shown to her third-loor suite by the unit concierge Alba Jaramillo. She, and the several nurses attending her, were completely dedicated to my wife’s well-being throughout her stay. The rehab group was undoubtedly responsible for the progress that led to her recovery. Her initial injuries included ive broken ribs and a delated left lung – now she is nearly fully recovered. All in all, her stay at Toppel was a total success. Yours truly, Warren Gilbert
