Congratulations on your purchase of the JET RACK system “The world's best sliding ladder rack” Read All Instructions First Before Beginning Installation. Depending upon your application, some components might require installation to the hanger strut before it is secured to your application. Please read all instructions carefully. Your Jet Rack™ System includes all the components and hardware necessary for installation except the hanger strut and its associated mounting hardware. The length of the strut and hardware are dependent on your application. The installation given herein is for the installation of the Jet Rack™ system. Check with the vehicles manufacturer for mounting requirements of the hanger strut.

To be Purchased Separately: 1) 7/8” depth hanger strut (“Unistrut™”) 2) Any hardware needed to mount the Unistrut™ for your particular application. * Hanger strut “Unistrut™” can be purchased at most electrical, plumbing, and major hardware stores. Unistrut™ is a name brand of hanger strut. Other brands may be available in your area. The hanger strut will vary in length depending on the size of your ladder. To determine the length of the hanger strut measure your ladder in the closed position, measure from the top of the ladder to the bottom. This will give you the minimum recommended length.(see illustration ‘A’ below.)

! 1/4” Self tapping screw ! Fender washer ! Lock washer When securing the hanger strut it is recommended that you place a lock washer followed by a fender washer on the self tapping screw. The hanger strut should be secured to every roof bow it crosses.

Minimum Recommended Length

Illustration ‘A’

Recommended hardware for the standard securement of the hanger strut:

* Make sure to check the thickness of the Roof Bow before fastening. Make sure the self tapping screw will not pass completely through both sides and damage outer structure.

Before you begin. When placing the hanger strut, consider that the tool hole in your ladder may be off center. When referencing the ends of the hanger strut, the front of the vehicle will be considered the front of the strut. Ensure there is enough space for your ladder to travel back and forth without obstructions (Walls, Shelves, etc…) Determine if you have enough space in the back of the hanger strut to allow you to insert the sliding mount onto the Strut. If not, be sure to insert the sliding mount before the strut is secured. (See fig. 1) * The Jet Rack™ system allows for a slight curve in the strut if needed without affecting the proper function of the Jet Rack™.

Once the strut is mounted and secured, you are ready to begin the installation of your new Jet Rack™ system.

1)

Install Shock Cord Guide: Due to the variety of applications you may need to install the shock cord guide before securing the strut. The shock cord guide should be placed approximately 30” in from the back end of the strut. Using the machine screw and 1.25 OD. washer, secure the shock cord guide to the strut. * The shock cord guide is designed to simply lift the cord out of the way of the receiving pin. This location may vary by application. Installing Sliding Mount: Insert the sliding mount into the strut with the groove portion facing the rear of the vehicle.

3)

Installing Fixed Mount: Measure from the foot of the ladder to the bottom rung, then from the back of the strut measure the same distance and mark the strut. This will be the approximate location of the fixed mount. Next install the fixed mount allowing for position adjustment. (See Fig. 2)

Fig. 2

2)

4)

Installing Receiving Pin: Using 1-1/2” carriage bolt, washer, and nut, affix receiving pin to sliding mount. Adjust the depth of the pin to fit the tool hole on your ladder allowing for vertical adjustment of the ladder if desired. Tighten carriage bolt completely without over tightening. (See Fig. 3 & 4)

5)

Installing Adjustable Catch: Install the adjustable catch in the same manner as the sliding pin allowing for adjusting the depth to fit the bottom rung of the ladder. Tighten carriage bolt completely without over tightening. (See Fig. 5 & 6)

6)

Adjusting Mount Positions: Place ladder onto receiving pin and slide forward to what will be the stowed position. Place the bottom rung of the ladder onto the fixed mount. This will be the final position of the fixed mount. Gently remove the ladder so as not to move the fixed mount and finish securing the fixed mount in place. * Use caution while placing the ladder into position. The adjustable catch and sliding mount are not completely secured at this point.

Install Shock Cord: Slide the shock cord through the sliding mount shock cord hole. Make sure the hog ring is at the back of the unit. (See Fig. 7) Next slide the cord through the shock cord guide hole. Repeat this process for the fixed mount hole. a. Place ladder onto rack and slide forward while holding the shock cord. When the ladder is in the stowed position, firmly pull the shock cord and slide it into the holding slot on the back of the fixed mount. (See Fig. 8) * Take note to have enough tension on the cord to securely hold the ladder in place. Tie a loose knot into the end of the shock cord at this point and tuck the excess into the back of the fixed mount.

Fig. 7

WARNING

After placing the ladder in the Jet Rack™ system, wrap the remaining end of the cord around the ladder for extra protection against the ladder coming out of the Jet Rack™ system. 8)

Install Stops: Install forward and rear travel stops as necessary for your installation.

Fig. 8

a. The recommended position for the forward stop is approximately 1-1/2” in front of the sliding mount in the stowed position. The position of the stop should allow just enough travel to slide the ladder forward to place the bottom rung onto the adjustable catch as well as ladder removal. (See Fig. 9) b. The rear stop should be placed far enough forward to limit the travel of the sliding mount allowing you to pull the ladder easily off of the receiving pin without hitting the adjustable catch. (See Fig. 10)

Fig. 9

* The positions of the stop are approximate locations. 9)

After you have installed your JET RACK™ system, wipe down the strut with a cloth to remove any debris and then apply a generous amount of white lithium grease to the inside of the strut allowing for smooth travel of the sliding mount. Your Jet Rack™ is now ready for many years of use.

Fig. 10 Maintenance: Apply white lithium grease to the strut a couple of times a year to keep the system operating smoothly. Your JET RACK™ system is designed for many years of proper use, however as with all shock cords, they should be checked regularly for wear along its entire length. If the outer jacket becomes severely frayed or broken, it is important that you immediately replace the shock cord with the same type as the one that was supplied with your JET RACK™ system. NEVER use a standard rubber shock cord to operate your JET RACK™ system. They are not compatible and your JET RACK™ system may not function properly. In addition, using a rubber shock cord may be dangerous, as they are known to fail quickly if damaged.

WARNING ! The Jet Rack™ system is designed to easily load, unload, and carry a ladder on a ! ! ! ! ! ! !

truck or van. It is not designed as a safety device. Travel on rough terrain may require additional securing of the ladder to ensure that it stays in place. NEVER install the Jet Rack™ system inside passenger compartments. Do not allow anyone to be directly underneath or to the side of the ladder during this installation/set-up procedure except to help mounting. Never install or remove the ladder while persons are seated in a position directly below or off to the side of the ladder mounting location. Never allow persons to sit directly below or off to the side of the stored ladder while traveling. A sudden jar or stop may cause the ladder to fall resulting in severe injury or possible death. If you should be involved in an accident or if you have had to apply your brakes excessively hard, check to make sure your ladder has not dislodged from its mounting even if you have to pull off the road to do so. Faulty installation or removal could cause the ladder to fall causing severe injury or possible death.
