UNIT 2 OUTCOME 3 SAC 2 LEGAL STUDIES Task Assignment and presentation This task will be marked out of 90. It will contribute 100% of the marks allocated for this outcome. This task covers a broad range of key knowledge and key skills related to this outcome. Introduction The following task gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of an investigation of a specific area of the law. To develop knowledge and understanding about contemporary issues in the law and their resolution, you will undertake a detailed investigation of one area of law: One of workplace laws, sports law, contract law or environmental law. You also need to write up a report addressing all the questions about Family Law – this is not presented. The Nature of the Task The task, is a report (written/multimedia) and oral presentation has a range of activities that require you to undertake research using textbooks, library resources and/ or the internet followed by presenting to class for 15mins. Your challenge is to develop a 15-20 minute lesson on your selected area of law. You will needs to give some background to the laws and address all the key knowledge and display all key skills for this area of study. You also need to complete a report on family law addressing the questions attached. You have been provided with a Rubric for any of the areas of law you choose and one for the family law report. Key Knowledge:    

Legal principles relevant to specific area of law A contemporary issue in relation to your specific area of law The capacity for the legal system to respond to demands for change Methods and institutions for resolving disputes arising under your specific area of law

Key Skills:     

Define key legal terminology and use it appropriately Research and gather information about legal cases and issues using print and electronic media Explain the current law and discuss related legal issues for the selected area of law Discuss the ability of the law to respond to demands for change Explain the use of different methods of dispute resolution to resolve legal problems.

Individual report on family law and presentation on selected area of law which can be written, visual/ oral or multimedia Time allowed: holiday period and one lesson for presentation. Marks allocated: 90 marks – 25 on chosen area of law report and 25 on presentation and 40 on family law report. . You should structure the report to address all key knowledge areas. When addressing all the key knowledge area make sure to refer to the key skills that you should demonstrate when answering a question. Marks are allocated as follows: 25 marks for presentation, 25 marks for report of selected area of law and 40 marks for the report on family law. We will be presenting first week back from the holidays

WORDS OF ADVICE: Set yourself up with necessary materials to develop your report once you have conducted your research. Only use software that you are competent in. If you are developing a written report use basic report writing techniques: paragraphing and headings. Use your own words and ensure the report has flow and sequence. Any direct quotes should be followed by the source in brackets. Seek clarification from me only during the writing/development time. Allow some time for final checking and proof reading. 
