‘Premium Superior’ rooms have the same facilities as standard rooms, but are about 40% bigger. ‘Basic’ en-suite rooms have a restricted view. The double studio is one tenancy but can be shared by a couple. The rent is inclusive of a weekly utility charge, internet connection and basic contents insurance (it is still advisable to take out personal insurance for musical instruments and personal belongings, etc.). Tenancies are for 43 weeks. Students wishing to stay during the summer holiday period will be issued with a short term contract for the length of stay agreed upon between themselves and UNITE. The Plaza also has 60 Classic en-suite rooms in flats for the sole use of LCoM students ( a 10 -15 minute walk from the Conservatoire)

You will be required to pay a £250 deposit to UNITE, and all applicants must have a guarantor. Please ask your guarantor for consent before putting their name on the form – they will be required to sign your tenancy agreement. Payment options are:  Full payment in advance by direct debit or credit card (please note there is a 2.5% surcharge on credit card payments)  Direct debit instalment plan (three or eight payments; an instalment administration charge is applicable for eight payments)

Rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis, mainly to first year undergraduates. Unfortunately we cannot accept applications from students who have put Leeds College of Music as their insurance choice or are awaiting offers. However we may prioritise students who:   

Declare a disability requiring specific equipment or support, providing they make an early application Are returning students with identified specific needs Are first year international, EU or EEA students.

The majority of rooms in Joseph Stones House (and sixty rooms at The Plaza) are allocated by the College accommodation team, via an application form. The application form is now available to download from the College website. (If you would prefer a paper copy of the application form, contact the accommodation team on 0113 222 3514 or email [email protected])

At Joseph Stones House, in agreement with Leeds College of Music, Unite Students can allocate 20% of the rooms to students who apply directly to them via www.unitestudents.com . Rooms can also be booked directly at The Plaza through the Unite Students website.

You should only apply for accommodation if you have put Leeds College of Music as your firm choice. We cannot reserve rooms for applicants who are unlikely to be coming to the Conservatoire. Complete the application form in full and return it to the accommodation team – address below – as soon as possible. The Accommodation Team Room 401 Leeds College of Music Leeds LS2 7PD Your room will be allocated and you will be sent a confirmation letter containing your room number. Your application form will then be forwarded to Unite, who will send you the tenancy documents as well as all the details you'll need about moving in. You and your guarantor will need to sign and return the tenancy documents to Unite, not to the Conservatoire, within the stated period. Unite will also ask for your deposit once you have signed your tenancy documents. Do not send it to college. After the tenancy is signed, Unite will be responsible for your accommodation, and all enquiries should be directed to them. If you fail to make the grades you require and need to withdraw, you will have to pay an administration charge of at least £50. You must contact the accommodation team as soon as you can, and before the end of August. Please read carefully the terms of the Unite Cancellation Policy. Should you choose not to come to Leeds College of Music and the reason is neither a serious personal issue nor failure to get your grades, then you may be tied in to paying your tenancy for the full year if your room cannot be re allocated. Should serious personal reasons prevent you from taking up your place, your case will be considered on an individual basis. It is for this reason we advise that, if Leeds College of Music is not your first choice for study or you really think you may not get the required grades, do not apply to live in Joseph Stones House or The Plaza.

Please note: 

 

If you apply for a room and Joseph Stones House and The Plaza are full, we will keep a small waiting list in case of vacancies at the last minute, but you will also be supplied with a list of alternatives. Usually there are no more than about 10 withdrawals, so most people will be better applying to other places if they haven’t got a room. If you have a home address in Leeds, we will not allocate you a room initially; however if there are vacancies after term starts, we will take local applicants. Any vacancies will be posted on the Leeds College of Music website around the end of August – check back. The starting date of your tenancy will be confirmed on your tenancy document. You can move in any time after this date. Keys will not be issued until the first instalment has been paid in cleared funds. The tenancy documents will explain this.

If you have any questions, please contact the accommodation team on 0113 222 3514 or 222 3411 or email [email protected]
