Consultation contributing to Development of Training and Assessment Strategy

The training and assessment strategies have been designed in consultation with members of the volunteer network and not-for-profit organisations conducted by The Centre for Volunteering, the peak body for volunteering in NSW. Further consultation has been with local business and industry, other RTOs and VET practitioners, and feedback from volunteers and participants who have attended similar programs.

rights and responsibilities of the volunteer and the organisation

-

motivations of the volunteer

-

frequency and duration of attendance in the workplace

-

appropriate styles of supervision

-

National Standards

-

values and philosophy of the workplace

This program may be delivered off the job at The Centre for Volunteering office or pre-arranged risk-assessed site. Participants are expected to undertake practical activities following face-to-face delivery. Activities SVM T&A Strategy (distance delivery) CHC30612 v2.13

2

involve individual activities performed in the classroom or simulated environment or workplace under direct supervision and are provided to all participants. Participants are provided with training manuals and activities books for each unit, which include materials required to be used in the learning environment. Assessment Arrangements

Assessment is both formative and summative and a holistic approach has been applied where possible. Evidence gathered is a combination of (simulated workplace) written reports, case studies, question and answers, self-assessments and third party reports (if applicable).

Employability Skills

The application of Employability Skills – communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, selfmanagement, learning and technology – are holistically assessed in the evidence gathering techniques against the relevant industry approaches and employability skill framework. A summary of the employability skills developed through this qualification can be downloaded from http://employabilityskills.training.com.au/.

Delivery and assessment staff

Please see attached matrix of qualified staff that facilitate and assess against this matrix (evidence provided SNR 15.3, 15.4).

Assessment validation process

All assessment methods, materials, tools, evidence used, decision making and process are validated in the following ways: -

Planning and development: All aspects of assessment are planned, developed and trialled by groups of facilitators and assessors working collaboratively together and consulting with stakeholders to ensure shared, agreed and consistent approaches.

-

Implementation: Various validation strategies ensure consistency between assessors during assessment, including the use of standard processes, materials and tools across units and direct supervision of

new assessors. -

Evaluation / Follow up: Feedback is gathered from all stakeholders in the assessment process including candidates and assessors. Assessment evidence is gathered, reviewed and assessment decisions moderated. Assessment processes, methods, materials, tools and decision-making are revised in light of evaluation results.

Detailed evidence of validation policy and procedure is available. Pathways

This qualification can be completed as described in this strategy, or through an assessment only path. See the separate policy and procedure for Recognition of Prior Learning (see SNR 15.5). All participants who undertake the Certificate III in Active Volunteering are provided with advice on future training options and articulation into higher levels of training.

Transitioning arrangements

Prospective advice is given to existing and potential learners regarding new or revised Training Packages via e-bulletins or through trainer and school administration (in this case from an accredited course to inclusion in the endorsed CHC08 Training Package v4). See the separate policy and procedure for Training Package Transitions/ Revisions (see SNR 25).

Monitoring and Evaluation

Major methods used to monitor and evaluate the delivery and assessment of this qualification align with Kirkpatrick’s (1976) four level model for evaluation and include: -

Reactions (feedback) from all stakeholders including facilitators, assessors, participants and candidates both during and after the delivery and assessment.

-

Learning of individuals is measured.

-

Behaviour is measured by focusing on the candidate’s performance and progress.

-

Measurable results in the workplaces originated by the candidate’s activities are collected through post course consultation with the workplace.

Evidence of monitoring and evaluation tools available for Validation (SNR 15.1, 15.5, 16.1, 17.3) and Student Course Evaluation (SNR 15.1, 16.2, 17.1). Record maintenance

Records are maintained according to AQTF Standard 3 and the SVM reporting requirements. (See Evidence supplied in Std. 1 and attached ‘Document Register’).
