HARVARD BALLET COMPANY, COLUMBIA BALLET COLLABORATIVE, AND PRINCETON UNIVERSITY BALLET PRESENT THE INAUGURAL

THREE UNIVERSITIES, TWO PERFORMANCES, ONE NOT-TO-BE-MISSED EVENT!

FEBRUARY 15, 2014 AT 8PM & FEBRUARY 16, 2014 AT 3PM MILLER THEATRE | 2960 BROADWAY | NEW YORK, NY

About the Ivy Ballet Exchange... The Ivy Ballet Exchange represents the coming together of three collegiate ballet companies that share a passion for developing dancers within the university setting. Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Harvard Ballet Company, and Princeton University Ballet are excited to welcome you to Miller Theatre today, to an exciting new chapter in each of our organizations’ histories. Our program will feature dynamic pieces from each group that represent our commitment to the advancement of ballet at our respective universities. Through our collaboration, we hope to strengthen and develop new ties among our university ballet communities as well as the greater ballet community and beyond. Our vision is for these performances to become an annual series that will stimulate an ongoing dialogue about various approaches to sharing ballet via student-run groups within an academic institution. Thank you for your support, and we hope you enjoy the show! Elysia Dawn (CBC), Kaitlyn Gilliland (CBC), Rachel Silvern (CBC), Michelle Luo (HBC), Bridget Scanlon (HBC), Caroline Hearst (PUB), & Chloe Cheney-Rice (PUB)

About the companies... Columbia Ballet Collaborative (CBC), founded in 2007 by five professional ballet dancers enrolled at Columbia University, is comprised of students from all of the University’s undergraduate colleges and affiliates. Featured in The New York Times, and appearing in Dance Magazine, TimeOut NY, and VanityFair.com, CBC is committed to enriching the arts community at Columbia and providing a platform for the collaboration between professionals in the New York dance community and Columbia University students. CBC is student-run and directed, and its members have danced professionally with such companies as Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ballet West, Kansas

City Ballet, New York City Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Orlando Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet. Regarding CBC’s focus on cultivating new works, The New York Times states: “New choreographic voices are rare in ballet, and the collaborative’s contribution in this respect has been vast already.” Most recently, CBC established an outreach program, partnering with P.S. 175 and P.S. 36 to bring ballet to the Columbia-Harlem community, increase diversity among those involved in the art form, and expand the role of dance in education. CBC is a recognized student group at Columbia University and jointly advised by the Office of Student Engagement and the Barnard College Department of Dance. CBC would like to thank our generous individual supporters of the Ivy Ballet Exchange without whom this event would not have been made possible: Charles and Deborah Adelman Barbara Brandt Laura Goodall Brian and Darlene Heidtke Robert Schulman Linda Stocknoff CBC would also like to thank the Barnard College Department of Dance, especially Tricia Toliver, for generously providing us with rehearsal and performance time and space; Katie Glasner, Paul Scolieri, David Milch, and Martha Phelps for offering their expertise, logistical guidance and moral support; the Miller Theatre staff, especially Brenna St George Jones and Bryan Logan for their professionalism and assistance with making these performances possible; Eileen Dieck for her costume assistance; Gus Reed for his video expertise; and CBC’s generous and ongoing individual donors whose support is essential to the realization of our mission.

Harvard Ballet Company (HBC) is a student-run and -directed organization at Harvard College that performs classical ballet, contemporary, and modern dance. HBC offers weekly ballet classes to all members, taught by local professionals as well as company members, appears in benefit performances both on and off-campus, and performs with other Harvard dance groups and in the Dance Festival at Arts First.. HBC has quietly grown into one of America’s premier student dance groups. Since its creation in 1993, the company has continued to gain talented dancers, rising choreographers, and fresh ambition. HBC looks to further students’ dance education through a supportive atmosphere, classes, and performances, while simultaneously encouraging their academic passions. While seeking to expose its dancers to a wide array of guest artistry, HBC simultaneously fosters the choreographic talent of its members, allowing dancers the opportunity to develop choreography and providing a stage from which to debut new choreographic projects. Since its inception, HBC has performed excerpts from countless classical ballets including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Les Sylphides, Paquita, Le Corsaire and La Bayadere, as well as neoclassical works by Trey McIntyre and George Balanchine. The company has also worked with artists such as Heather Watts and Damian Woetzel, former principal dancers of New York City Ballet, and Tai Jimenez, former principal dancer of Boston Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem. HBC would like to thank our donors for their generous and ongoing support: Prima Ballerina Jun Tsao and Ming Luo • John and Mary Russell Principal Carla Comeau • Renee Sobel, Michael Fitts and Whitney Fitts Soloist Michael David Rubin • Capezio Dance Theater Shop Second Soloist Pamela and Martin Berman • Robin and Claudette Kuhl Doris L. Master • Lisa Master and Ken Park

HBC would also like to extend a special thanks to Harvard’s Office for the Arts, Harvard’s Farkas Hall, Harvard Dance Center, Jill Johnson, Christine Bennett, Marin Orlosky-Randow, Jack Megan, Dana Knox, Andrew Gitchel, Tom Morgan, Jason Govostes, Norman Turner, Jun Shepard, Hazel Lever, Danielle Rabinowitz, and George Birkadze.

Princeton University Ballet, fondly known as PUB, is the only student-run dance group at Princeton dedicated to the art of contemporary and classical ballet. The company was founded by Virginia Byron ‘10 and Elizabeth Rosen ‘10 in 2008 in order to provide greater opportunities for students to continue performing ballet while studying at Princeton. Since then, PUB has grown into a thriving company that strives to show the Princeton community how awesome ballet can be, while maintaining a high level of technical excellence. All of our members are full time undergraduates at Princeton University. PUB Dancers have studied at such institutions as School of American Ballet, San Francisco Ballet School, the JKO School, Washington Ballet School, the Juilliard School, LINES Ballet School, and National Ballet of Canada. Each of our shows features classical repertory as well as contemporary pieces choreographed by students and professional guest choreographers. Our fall show includes excerpts from The Nutcracker, a crowd favorite. Auditions for PUB are held each fall, just before classes start. Students interested in applying to Princeton and learning more about PUB should consult our Facebook page. PUB would like to extend its thanks to Cathy Hazard for her incredible work envisioning, creating, fitting, and maintaining costumes for use in PUB shows. Cathy’s enormous generosity brings so much to our performances. We also thank American Repertory Ballet and the Princeton Ballet School for sharing the use of Cathy’s creations.
