COACH’S COMMENTS

We look forward to promising times ahead, with the long course comps about to the start, and with the short course comps ending on a good note. The club performed well throughout the season, being a good warm up to the main long course comps ahead of us. State Short Course achievements P.B’s, Finalists, & Medal winners. Milla Place – Bronze Medal 200 fly backing up Jaime-Lee (Silver) & Patrick Getson (2 Bronze) medals. Lots of simple mistakes were made throughout states that influenced our results. This shouldn’t happen, we’re better than that, lets concentrate on getting the little things right at training. Learn from your mistakes, get them out of your system and alleviate the problems in order to achieve your goals going forward into the Long course season. I look forward to seeing more consistency and better performances at training, which will change the outcome in competitive racing. Rob

COACH’S COMMENTS LONG COURSE Improving swimming stamina, or endurance, relates to your capacity to perform continuous repetitions, while resisting the need to stop. Without stamina, arms and legs easily become fatigued, resulting in inability to maintain proper technique, a major cause of water drag and ultimately poor swimming results. Spring is here and long course is coming, so time to improve stamina. Quarter of the Squad is off to Bendigo Training camp to assist with preparation for long course. During that week at Waves we will also be working on our stamina. You should have end of season goals, but more importantly how are you going to achieve these goals. With half the number of turn’s and under-waters, distance per stroke is the name of the game in Long course. In training focus on the length of your stroke and count your strokes during different sets. Sets that focus on descending your time while holding a specific stroke count will help you stay disciplined about swimming tall and will help you find that right stroke rate to stroke length ratio. Are you eating the foods you should be for energy, recovery and fitness? Vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, (colourful plate) as well as lean protein sources, (chicken and fish) good sources of healthy fats, (nuts, avocado, olive oil) and of course foods packed with the quality carbohydrates your muscles need to fuel sessions, (whole grains, beans, oats and milk). Milk drinks are a fantastic and easy way to help your muscles in the recovery immediately after training. Pop it in your training bag.
