Dear Pageant Friend, The Miss Virginia Pageant is pleased to present you with our Virginia Princess Camp. This is the seventh year of our prestigious Princess program and we know you will have a wonderful experience. We hope your involvement with our program gives you a better understanding of the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant, its purpose and benefits. We strive to give young women the opportunity for personal growth and the skills needed to excel in life. Through the Virginia Princess Program we extend this unique opportunity to you. We encourage you to get involved with your Queen mentor. Ask questions, volunteer with her community service project and make new friends. Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant 2016 Virginia Princess Camp Goals and Purposes The Virginia Princess Program is established for young ladies ranging in age from 5 to 12. It is a mentoring program in which the Virginia Princesses are mentored by local Miss Virginia contestants for the year of their service. The Virginia Princess is encouraged to join her mentor in as many appearances, volunteer opportunities and other events as possible. Virginia Princesses are present the week of the Miss Virginia pageant. Virginia Princesses will participate in the production as well as attend promotional events with their mentor. The main goal of the Virginia Princess Program is to enable Virginia Princesses to have better insight to The Miss Virginia Pageant and what the Miss America program is all about. Goals: •

Encourage younger, active involvement in the Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant.



Provide forum for personal growth.



Mentor using positive role models.



Have Fun!

Through these programs, these young girls can become involved with the State Miss America’s Outstanding Teen and Miss America programs before they reach competition age. The program also provides the young girls with the opportunity to serve as role models for their peers throughout the state. Being involved with your state princess program is an opportunity for a young girl to make memories that will last a lifetime! Princesses need to arrive on Thursday, June 23rd by 9:30 a.m. Departing Sunday morning, June 26th.

Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant 2016 Virginia Princess Camp Pageant Wardrobe Your clothing should be well organized and carefully thought out. The following suggestions will help you plan your wardrobe for pageant week.

Arrival:

You will be seen in the lobby of the hotel. Dress casually, but remember photographers may be on hand photographing you.

Rehearsal Clothes:

Casual clothes and comfortable shoes are a must. It is imperative that you dress comfortably and remember that the auditorium gets cold even when it is 95 degrees outside. Please do not “break-in” new shoes during rehearsals.

Princess Crowning Ceremony: Appearances:

White sundress or church dress (short or tea-length)

Clothing will be the choice of each Virginia Princess. Guidelines will be given at a later date and clothing should reflect the activity.

Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant 2016 Virginia Princess Camp General Rules and Suggestions 1.

The President and/or Executive Director has complete charge of all activities during pageant week and has full authority to make decisions governing contact with Virginia Princesses.

2.

Any Princess whose conduct is deemed unbecoming by the Miss Virginia Pageant Committee will be asked to withdraw from the Virginia Princess Program and will no longer be eligible for future participation.

3.

Princesses are not permitted at any time to enter a cocktail lounge, night club, bar or tavern or any other venue where liquor or beer is served, while serving as a Virginia Princess. Violation of this rule will bring automatic elimination from further participation in the Miss Virginia Princess Program.

4.

No one is permitted backstage at any time except security, stage personnel, pageant officials and production members. Virginia Princesses will only be allowed backstage when accompanied by a pageant official.

5.

No one will be permitted in the contestants dressing rooms except authorized personnel. Virginia Princesses will come to the auditorium dressed in production wardrobe. Exact wardrobe is to be determined by pageant officials.

6.

Virginia Princesses are not allowed to leave the assigned areas at anytime during the week without permission from one of the Virginia Princess Committee members. Violation of this rule will bring automatic elimination from further participation in the Miss Virginia Princess Program.

7.

All problems or complaints should be reported to the Virginia Princess Committee immediately. Regardless of how small or large a complaint, please report it. A problem cannot be solved if no one knows about it except the Virginia Princess.

8.

Princesses should be in assigned areas 20 minutes before scheduled times. Tardiness will absolutely not be permitted during pageant week.

9.

From the time a princess arrives in Roanoke for pageant week, until the finals are completed, princesses are under the jurisdiction of the Miss Virginia Pageant and must abide by all rules and regulations.

10. Virginia Princesses need to be ready to go on stage before arriving at the auditorium.

11. Each Princess must provide her own transportation during pageant week. 12. Princesses are required to wear their name badge at all times. 13. Parents are responsible for the conduct of their Virginia Princesses. 14. There should be no cell phones, pagers, or any other electronic devices. committee members will provide phone access in emergency cases only.

15. Label everything before arriving in Roanoke; this is for your benefit. The pageant committee is not responsible for misplaced personal items. 16. In the Roanoke Civic Auditorium during rehearsals, it is your responsibility to be within hearing distance of any stage calls, which can come at any time. You are to stay in the auditorium area itself, not dressing rooms, bathrooms, or other rooms during rehearsals, unless instructed to do so by pageant officials. 17. ALL FORMS, AND MONIES ARE DUE BY APRIL 16, 2016. NO EXCEPTIONS! 18. All Teen, Teens in training and Princess head shots for the Miss Virginia Program Book MUST be submitted electronically, either by email or sent on a CD. NO HARD COPY PHOTOS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!! B. For inclusion in the MISS program book, all photos MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN APRIL 16, 2016! All photos must be a HIGH RESOLUTION JPEG image, at least 1600 x 1200 DPI, VERTICAL FORMAT. *** This is the preferred method to send:

20. If a Princess’s conduct is deemed unsatisfactory by the Virginia Princess Committee

and by this conduct the image and good name of the Virginia Princess Program is to be jeopardized, the Princess’s parent will be notified immediately.

Miss Virginia Scholarship Pageant 2016 Virginia Princess Camp Award Explanations School Honor Awards The Virginia Princess committee would like to praise their young ladies for not only representing their community as a Virginia Princess, but for also being able to excel in school. There will be three certificates of achievement that will be given out The Perfect Attendance award, the Principal’s List award and the Honor Roll award. The needed information for these certificates to be awarded are as follows: Perfect Attendance Award – Must provide a report card from the entire school year which shows you have been present every day. Principal’s List Award – Must provide a report card from the entire school year which shows you have made all A’s or for younger girls all O’s or S’s. Honor Roll Award – Must provide a report card from the entire school year which shows you have made all A’s and B’s. All award information must be received at REGISTRATION on June 23, 2016. The judgment of all awards is at the discretion of the committee. Turn in report cards or transcript from the school in a school sealed envelope at REGISTRATION .
