Warning : Only a careful installation and use of these speakers can provide the satisfaction you are expecting. The installation instructions must be scrupulously carried out and the mentionned precautions must be taken to achieve the expected result and to avoid the speakers' deterioration. However, if the instructions are perfectly carried out, you will notice that the sound quality of your Goldmund Apologue is incredibly dynamic, precise and sweet. Important: Please do not unpack or connect any part before reading the following instructions. Very important: The Apologue speakers' parts being very heavy and voluminous but at the same time fragile, it is imperative that a minimum of three people assist during their mounting. No warranty service or assistance will be provided if the warranty card is not sent to the factory. Note : The two speakers have been mounted for full testing at the factory. It is perfectly normal that the painting and metallic parts show slight marks from this mounting.

1. Preliminaries

For exacting technicians, musicians, and people who demand the very best in audio reproduction, we strongly recommend the use of the best associated components, especially concerning electronics and cables (see paragraph 10). Warning : If you need to return the speakers to the factory or to your local representative for a warranty repair, please note that they must be repacked in the original package. Otherwise new packaging will be charged as well as the repair of damages occured due to poor packaging conditions. Warning : Do not remove any of the speakers' driver protections untill the speakers are installed.

2. Selection of the speakers location

A very rigid floor is very important for an optimal sonic result. Select a location for the speaker to have the most rigid possible coupling with the floor. If your speaker has to be placed on a suspended floor, optimal results require that you arrange it so as to have at least the central pointed foot over a supporting beam or close enough from a supporting wall. In order to simplify the mounting, the following instructions describe how to assemble one speaker. Please repeat the procedure for the second speaker.

4. Frame mounting

For each speaker you will need : - 1 square base - 2 long frame legs - 1 top bar of the frame - 8 flat-head screws

(Frame) (Frame long) (Frame) (Tweeters)

Locate the square base in the future position of your speaker, the two vertical attachements upwards and towards the listener position. Mount the 2 long frame legs on the oblique attachements of the square base, first without screws. The long frame legs are marked "left left" and "left right" for the left speaker and "right left" and "right right" for the right speaker. Insert on top of the oblique legs the top bar of the frame. Secure it to the oblique legs with 4 small flat-head screws. Put another 4 screws at the basis of the oblique legs without tightening.

5

5. Bottom woofer mounting

For each speaker you will need: - 1 bottom woofer section - 2 cylindrical threaded feet - 2 threaded bars

(Bottom Woofer Right or Left) (Tweeters) (Tweeters)

Warning : The woofer's pointed foot is very hard. It is built to pass through a carpeted floor. If your floor is made of wood or tiles, be careful not to scratch it by moving the woofer section without lifting it. Mount the cylindrical threaded feet on the screws that exist on the woofer's bottom surface. Put the woofer section on one square base, so that the the pointed foot of the woofer section is inside the square. Set the position of the woofer section untill the holes in the frame's oblique legs face the round fixation center-hole of the woofer. Align the woofer section in definite listening position, and level it approximately, using the two cylindrical threaded feet.

Take the threaded bars and insert them, screwing, in the holes at the sides of the woofer section. If the two sides of each bar are not equally long, insert the shortest side in the hole.

6

6. Top woofer connection and mounting.

For each speaker you will need: - 1 top woofer section (Top Woofer Right or Left) - 2 threaded bars (Tweeters) - 4 molettes (Molettes) Place the top woofer behind the bottom woofer, near its definite position, with its cable directed towards the bottom woofer, in order to facilitate the connection of the cable to the bottom crossover section located on top surface of the bottom woofer. Each cable is built with a black and white wire already tinned. Solder each cable to the corresponding lugs on the bottom crossover section (see fig. 1). Pass the soldered cable through the cable holder at the bottom of the crossover to avoid any tension on the solder joint. When you lower the top woofer towards the bottom one, roll the cable around the cylindrical protection of the groove in the crossover. This is necessary in order to avoid crushing the cable when the pointed footof the top woofer passes through the groove. Then pass the other cable, which is attached to the bottom crossover section, from bottom to top, through the hole which goes through the top woofer section. Turn the cable on itself if you have difficulties to pass it through. When you lower the top woofer towards the bottom one, pull the cable passing through the top woofer section to avoid any loops over the bottom crossover section. In aligning the two woofers (bottom and top), the top pointed foot must be inserted in the groove in the crossover located on top of the bottom woofer through the cylindrical protection. Level the woofers using the back adjustable feet. The two woofers must be aligned exactly vertically. Warning : This operation requests four people. Two to hold the top woofer section from the back of the enclosure assembly, one to catch the woofer from the front, and one to roll the cable and to insert the pointed foot in the cylindrical protection. When the top woofer is in position, insert two threaded bars, screwing, through the frame's oblique legs, in the holes at the sides of the top woofer section. You can now tighten the basis of the frame's two oblique legs using an angled allen key. Set them so that the top bar is perfectly horizontal. Screw 4 molettes on the woofer assembly.

7. Bottom tweeter mounting.

For each speaker you will need: - 1 bottom tweeter - 4 plastic translucid feet - 1 fake piece of wire - 1 arm among the shortest - 1 frame rectangular arm holder - 1 cylindrical head screw - 2 flat head screws - 1 threaded bar - 1 molette

(Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Frame) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Molettes)

Take 2 plastic translucid feet. Insert one, in the corresponding lodgement, around the wire coming out of the top of the top woofer. Take the other, put the fake piece of wire inside it, and insert it in the other lodgement. To mount the arm (attention there is right and left) on the frame assembly, mount, first, in the corresponding hole of the oblique legs, the frame rectangular arm holder, using one cylindrical head screw. (The corresponding hole is the lowest one accessible of the two inside holes which are located on the right oblique leg for the right speaker and the left oblique leg for the left speaker.) The rectangular part must have the two holes at the back (when the speaker is seen from its front). Then attach the (marked right or left depending on speaker) arm on it with 2 flat head screws without tightening. Warning : This operation must be carried out by two people to avoid that the arm fall on the woofer section and damage the painting. Pick the correct bottom tweeter(right or left). Place it so that the wire coming from the woofer passes through the tweeter section from bottom to top, so that the plastic feet are inserted in their lodgement in the tweeter section and so that the pointed foot is inserted in the groove located on top of the woofer section. Put the other 2 plastic feet around the cables coming from the top of the tweeter section. Insert, screwing, the threaded bar in the cylindrical lateral part of the tweeter section, through the arm. When the tweeter is well installed, and with one person still holding the arm to avoid that the tweeter lose its balance, screw one molette and secure it, as well as the two flat head screws holding the arm.

8. Midrange mounting

For each speaker you will need: - 1 midrange section (Midrange Right or Left) - 1 arm among the medium length (Frame) - 1 frame rectangular arm holder (Tweeters) - 1 cylindrical head screw (Tweeters) - 2 flat head screws (Tweeters) - 1 threaded bar (Tweeters) - 1 molette (Molettes) - 1 ventouse (Tweeters) Install the midrange section on the floor, at the side of the corresponding speaker, with the speaker protection left in place. Remove, with the help of the ventouse, the center part of the back panel of the midrange section, which has been mounted just by pressing. Pull the whole back panel, held by magnetic locks, holding it through the holes in the Goldcube lodgment, inside. Insert the cables from the bottom of the midrange section until they appear at the back of the midrange filter section. Curve the cables slightly to help them introduce in the tubular guides. Mount one frame rectangular arm holder, using the cylindrical head screw, in the corresponding hole of the oblique leg. (The corresponding hole is the only inside hole at the left side of the right speaker and right side of the left speaker). The rectangular part must have the two holes at the back (when the speaker is seen from the front). Then attach the (marked right or left depending on the speaker) arm on it with 2 flat head screws without tightening. Put the midrange section in position while pulling the cables. Warning : The midrange section is very heavy. Two people must support it in position while a third one must insert the cables in the corresponding holes. Moreover, the midrange section is not well balanced. When placed on top of the tweeter it may fall on its side if it is not securely held. The pointed foot must be inserted in the groove at the top of the lower tweeter section, and the plastic feet must be inserted in their corresponding lodgements. Stll holding the midrange section, insert, screwing, the threaded bar in the midrange cylindrical lateral part, through the arm. Install the midrange section properly and tighten the arm with the flat head screws and the molette. Only when the mounting is tight can the midrange section be left unheld.

9. Top tweeter mounting.

For each speaker you will need: -1 top tweeter - 2 plastic translucid feet - 1 fake piece of wire - 1 arm among the longest - 1 frame rectangular arm holder - 1 cylindrical head screw - 2 flat head screws - 1 threaded bar - 1 molette

(Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Frame) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Tweeters) (Molettes)

Mount the two plastic translucid feet on the midrange section. Insert a fake piece of wire in the foot where the tweeter cable will not pass. Warning : During the following operation, be careful again to keep the arm from touching the midrange section. To mount the frame armmount, first, in the corresponding hole of the oblique legs, the frame rectangular arm holder, using the cylindrical head screw. (The corresponding hole is the highest one accessible of the two inside holes which are located on the right oblique leg for the right speaker and the left oblique leg for the left speaker). The rectangular part must have the two holes at the back (when the speaker is seen from the front). Then attach the (marked right or left depending on the speaker) arm on it with 2 flat head screws without tightening. Place the tweeter on top of the midrange section, passing its cable through the plastic foot and inside the midrange crossover section. Insert, screwing, the threaded bar in the tweeter cylindrical lateral part, through the arm. When the top tweeter is well installed, and with one person still holding the arm to avoid that the tweeter lose its balance, screw one molette and secure it, as well as the two flat head screws holding the arm.

10. Midrange crossover connection.

The cables coming from the different sections as well as the cable coming from the midrange section back panel have to be connected to the crossover connection bar (See figures 2). This bar is located inside the back openning of the midrange section. Warning : The two cables coming from the lower part of the system (the bottom tweeter and the bottom crossover) can easily be mixed up. Be careful: these cables have to be connected in a different way acording to the speaker (See fig. 2a 2b). Warning : Do not switch the right and left midrange back panels. The Goldcube lodgement must be aligned with the speaker center line which corresponds to the pointed feet line. It is exactly located above the golden identification plate at the top of the woofer section. When all connections are properly tightened, put the back panel of the midrange sections back into position.

11. Grill cloth mounting.

You may now remove all driver protections with great care. Each woofer is secured during transport by two wooden blocks, attached inside the lateral vents behind the front panel. Unscrew these two plates from each woofer section and slide them out carefully. Keep them with the packaging for any further transport of the speakers. Open the last carton marked Grillls. Mount the grills on each speaker by simply inserting them in location. If a grill seems too tight, try to exchange it with the one of the other speaker.

11

12. Cleaning.

To clean the laquered wood, you can use any of the very fine polish used for the old laquered furniture. Always use a very soft cloth to avoid scratching the surface. Use of the same polish on the frame and the molettes will give the system its best appearance. The identification plates are gold plated. Simply clean them with a soft cloth, without any product.

13. Connection to the amplifier.

If you are not using a Goldcube, the only amplifier fast enough to drive properly the Apologue is one of the Goldmund Mimesis. Any slower amplifier will not have the capability to properly hold the ultra-fast drivers of the Apologue. The cable coming from the Mimesis can be connected to the bottom crossover, using high quality banana plugs which can be tightened in position. Any bad quality cable will ruin the sound quality of the Apologue. The best solution remains the Goldcube, since it does not use any speaker cable.

14. Running-in

The Apologue speakers need to operate for many days before they provide the top sonic quality they are designed to provide. The first hours can be very frustrating. Do not hesitate to let them play quite loud for some time before tempting any real adjustment.
