About the Association Founded in 2003, Corporate Governance Association of Turkey (TKYD) is a non-profit organization aiming to develop and promote adherence to corporate governance standards and guidelines in Turkey.

Starting from publicly-held to family owned companies, from the state-owned enterprises to civil society organisations, from the political parties to sports clubs, conformance with the corporate governance principles is becoming more important as the basic tool for and the basic principle of a fair, transparent, accountable and responsible environment for today’s global business world. 613 Board members and senior executives meet at TKYD to shape the future implementation of corporate governance practices in Turkey with the task of informing the public to keep abreast of these changes.

Definition of corporate governance

“Corporate governance refers to that blend of law, regulation and appropriate voluntary private-sector practices which enable the corporation to attract financial and human resources, perform efficiently, and thereby perpetuate itself by generating long-term economic value for its shareholders, while respecting the interests of stakeholders and the society as a whole.”

Principles Fairness; means equal treatment to all rights-holder by the company management. Transparency; it requires accurate, clear and comparable information-sharing of the company with public opinion.

Projects As being the organizational shareholder of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), TKYD introduced the standards of international reporting in Turkey and has been keeping up with studies to increase the number of firms that comply with these standards. “The Private Sector and Development Project” was executed in cooperation with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), 2005 – 2007. Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and TKYD have mainly 4 project alliances since 2005. Collaborations with regional projects are underway.

With the support of both national and international institutions, the training programs about Membership for the Board of Directors have reached 33 cities in Anatolia since 2006.

Communication Published quarterly, Corporate Governance Magazine and e-reviews deliver, regularly to 4000 people, the latest news on corporate governance. The monthly number of visitors of the TKYD website (www.tkyd.org) is approximately 17.000 active users. TKYD uses social media (Facebook, twitter, linked-in and YouTube) actively to update members as of 2011.
