THE BALTIC’S AMBER COAST ST. PETERSBURG TO COPENHAGEN ABOARD SEA CLOUD II JULY 1 TO 12, 2016

Dear National Trust Traveler, With their captivating mix of medieval and modern, the port cities of Scandinavia and the Baltics are eternally elegant. Please join us in July for a ten-night voyage from St. Petersburg to Copenhagen aboard the three-masted sailing yacht, Sea Cloud II. Cruise past Gothic spires and gabled houses illuminated by the summer sun, stepping ashore to explore historic buildings and museum treasures. A trio of distinguished lecturers accompanies this stylish journey: Pierre Terjanian, Curator in Charge of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Department of Arms and Armor; Marijeta Bozovic, Assistant Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Yale; and Timothy J. Colton, Professor of Government and Russian Studies at Harvard. From splendid St. Petersburg, sail along the Neva River into the Gulf of Finland. Discover the landmarks of Helsinki, including Eliel Saarinen’s railway station and the superb collection of the Ateneum; and in Tallinn, Estonia, attend a private concert at St. Nicholas Church. Two days in lively Stockholm include a guided tour of the Court Theater at Drottningholm Palace—which will be specially opened for our group— and a before-hours visit to the Royal Armory. On the Swedish island of Gotland, stroll amid myriad roses in the Botanical Garden of Visby before crossing the Baltic Sea to the fairy tale city of Riga, Latvia, for a private organ performance at the Dome Cathedral. You may choose to join an excursion to the UNESCO-recognized Old Town of Vilnius, Lithuania, before disembarking in Copenhagen. For those who wish to extend their stay, an optional, three-night prelude in St. Petersburg includes the incomparable Hermitage, Catherine Palace, and a White Nights Festival performance. An optional two-night postlude in Copenhagen is highlighted by visits to the city’s top museums and to Kronberg Castle, the setting for Hamlet.
