Tang Prize Week 2016 Tang Prize Week 2016 runs this year from September 22 to September 28. Events include the opening reception, concert, award ceremony, banquet, as well as a lecture and forum series featuring the work of the laureates. Events of Tang Prize Week span the length of Taiwan, and are expected to draw over 10,000 visitors.

Tang Prize Reception: Date: Thursday, September 22, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM Venue: The National Palace Museum The Tang Prize Reception on September 22 will lift the curtain on Tang Prize Week. The Foundation has especially chosen for this event the National Palace Museum, an important center for the collection of Chinese art and historical artifacts. Present at the event will be scholars from the Academia Sinica, and representatives from a number of fields. For the post-reception, the Foundation has organized an exhibition of Chinese cultural artifacts that is a superb representation of the variety of Chinese civilization. Tang Prize Award Ceremony Date: 9/25 (Sun) Time: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM Venue: Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall The Tang Prize hopes to become an influential guide to the fields important to the 21st Century—Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology, and Rule of Law. Through the contributions and vision of the laureates, the Foundation hopes to support and guide research and the education of our youth. Qualities specific to Eastern culture—oneness, integration, and broad vision—and those cherished by the West—analysis and 1

classification—come together in the prize as a whole to contribute to the development of the human race. With its huge influence in technology, education, culture, and tourism, the Tang Prize is a significant event for the Asia region. Tang Prize Banquet Date: 9/25 (Sun) Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM Venue: The Grand Hotel The Tang Prize Banquet, a celebration of the accomplishments of the Prize Laureates, will be a night to remember. The Foundation has invited notable individuals from Taiwan and representatives from a number of fields to attend. As for the venue for this special event, the Foundation has chosen the Grand Hotel, a hotel that is symbolic of both Asian architecture and the magnificence of classical Chinese style. In addition to musical performances, guests will also be able to enjoy a course of creative dishes designed especially for the Tang Prize Banquet. Tang Prize Concert Date: 9/26 (Mon) Time: 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Venue: National Concert Hall Players: Rolf-Peter Wille, Yen Chun-Chieh, Lee Che-Yi, Eric Chen, Taipei Symphonic Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Chorus Conductor: Chiu Chun-Chiang A representation of the spirit of Chinese culture and music, the Tang Prize Concert brings the majestic sounds and grand sights that symbolize the accomplishments of the prize laureates. Performances include Rolf-Peter Wille and Yen Chun-Chieh playing F. Poulenc: Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, which was chosen to represent the spirit and traditions of the prize. 2

This will be followed by a rendition of Taiwanese composer Ma Shui-long’s The Invisible Temple, played by the Taipei Symphonic Orchestra and the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus with Qiu Jun-qiang conducting. The Tang Prize has also invited Yiu-Kwong Chung, the composer of the Fanfare for the Tang Prize, and Lee Che-Yi to arrange a special suite of musical pieces to honor each of the laureates. Laureate Lectures Date: 9/24 (Sat) Time: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (50 minutes/laureate) Venue: Howard Civil Service International House Bringing the accomplishments of the Tang Prize laureates to a larger audience, the Foundation has arranged a series of detailed lectures in which the laureates in each of the Tang Prize fields will speak to professionals, students, and researchers about the technical aspects of their life’s work. Masters’ Forum (30 Minutes/Laureate) Date: 9/26, 27, 28 (Mon, Tues, Wed) The Foundation sincerely hopes that the youth may be inspired by the spirit of the laureates to achieve greater accomplishments themselves. In this series of popular lectures given in a number of Taiwan’s major universities, the general public will be able to better understand the laureates and their contributions to humanity. The forum will be held at universities throughout Taiwan. The audience will consist of the general public, teachers, and especially—students. Viewing Nature in Chinese Art: A Special Exhibit of Select Artifacts to Celebrate the 2016 Tang Prize Date: 9/22 to 9/28 Venue: National Palace Museum The Tang Prize brings Eastern thought, value, and spirit to the fore of the world stage. This can be seen in our reception locale—Taiwan’s National Palace Museum, which was chosen for its architectural beauty and cultural value. Within this characteristic building, full of the symbols and tones of Eastern culture, guests will feel the elegance of Chinese civilization and the depth of its history, and seem as if they are in another time, another place. In addition to the reception, the National Palace Museum will hold the “Viewing Nature in Chinese Art” exhibition, which will present to our guests cultural artifacts which represent the spirit of the prize in Sustainable Development.
