PALAZZO PAPADOPOLI Built on water, steeped in history and synonymous with romance, Venice is a fabled destination with a glorious past. Aman Canal Grande Venice is at the heart of the city in the San Polo district, one of the oldest parts of the city, known for its beautiful Palaces, churches and the Rialto Market. Palazzo Papadopoli was built in 1550 and is one of only 8 palazzo monumentali on the Grand Canal. Unusually for a Venetian Palazzo, there are 2 piano nobile floors, the grand floors that the family used for entertaining. The decorations of the 1st piano nobile are significant examples of the Neo-Renaissance and Rococo styles that we all the rage in 19th century Venice. The Ballroom, the Bar, the Red Dining Room & the Yellow Dining Room all have soaring ceilings with original frescoes, Murano glass chandeliers, ornate stucco, gilded mirrors, silk wall 3

coverings, terrazzo floors- and views of the Grand Canal. These breathtakingly beautiful spaces have hosted the grandest of parties over the centuries, and provide the perfect back drop to a special celebration. The secret Golden Room is a gilded jewel from the 18th century, and intimate setting for private dinners and meetings. The 2nd piano nobile is home to the Salon, a regal, lofty ceilinged entertaining room featuring a grand piano and wonderful views across Venice. The historic Library, Stanza del Tiepolo- our Games Room featuring a large ceiling fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo- and Stanza del Gurarana- our meeting/ screening room featuring a ceiling fresco by Tiepolo’s student Guarana- all lead off the central Salon. The privilege of space in the Palazzo extends to the Gardens, very unusual features in Venice. These beautiful gardens are green oasis’s in this historic district alive with the gentle sounds of water all about. In the Summer months they provide large shady outdoor spaces for dining and entertaining. The Palazzo offers 24 rooms, all being unique of layout and design, many feature frescoes, reliefs and chandeliers that reflect the past periods of art and architecture. Furniture and furnishings throughout the rooms are contemporary, yet of a simple aesthetic.

4

Signature Suites Maddalena Stanza is named in the memory of the Counts Great Grandmother. She first came to Palazzo Papadopoli in 1864, the wife of the Greek Nicolo Papadopoli. The Maddalena Stanza is located in the New Wing, with views over the lovely garden to the Grand Canal. It features double height ceilings with walls lined with Rubelli silk fabrics, and a beautiful chandelier in the bathroom.

Papadopoli Stanza is located in the New Wing of the Palazzo, with the lovely views of the Canal Garden and the Grand Canal. The double height ceilings of this stanza are frescoed in both the large bedroom and huge bathroom.

Sansovino Stanza was formerly The Hall of Four Doors, a grand hall that linked the Red Dining Room to the more private but equally grand Credenza room- the family dining room. It has many noteworthy architectural details include wood panelling, a painted frieze high around the walls featuring sea nymphs, a carved ceiling and some of the original wallpaper and fabrics . It also has the most historical fireplace in the Palazzo, designed by Jacopo d’Antonio Sansovino, one of Venice’s most famous architects in the early 16th century, and the architect of the Library in Piazza San Marco. The Stanza features a large bedroom with seating area, and a bathtub with views over the Grand Canal.

Canal Grande Suite is located above the front door of the palazzo, this suite directly fronts the Grand Canal offering exceptional views. It features a lovely sitting room with an arched window through which the full spectrum of the canal’s maritime activities can be viewed. It has a bedroom with fireplace and antique mirror with direct views onto the Grand Canal from 2 sides and the bathroom looks onto the Canal gardens. It can become a two-bedroom suite when necessary, adjoining with the neighbouring Stanza.

Alcova Tiepolo Suite is one of the worlds most unique Suites, with two very different rooms. The paintings on the walls of the sitting room are 19th century ‘Chinoserie’- which were all the rage in the mid 1800’s. The bedroom is a fairy tale of stucco and Tiepolo. The Giovanni Battista Tiepolo fresco of cherubs is surrounded by wedding cake icing styled stucco. Tiepolo has been described as the “greatest decorative painter of 18th-century Europe, as well as its most able craftsman”. The Suite also features some of the most beautiful doors in the Palazzo, each one more lovely than the next. The Alcova Tiepolo Suite was the room of the lady of the house. The 31
