Chateau Yon-Figeac - Vintage - 2000 (1)

"This the greatest Beau Sejour-Becot I have ever tasted. The opaque purple 2000 has put on weight during its elevage and, from the bottle, appears to be spectacular. The wood is wellintegrated, and the fruit, glycerin, and overall flavor dimensions are noteworthy. The bouquet smells of ink, espresso, jammy blackberries and currants, wet stones, and licorice. Super-pure and fabulously extracted, with high tannin, full body, a thick texture, and awesome richness and length, this blockbuster effort will be at its finest between 2008-2025." 10 Opus One - Vintage - 1994 per lot $1900 - 2500

"This is an impressive effort from Opus One. The wine, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 1% Malbec, possesses a dark ruby/purple color, followed by a generous, complex nose of lead pencil, toasty oak, violets, and black currants. In the mouth, there is a beautiful texture, soft, generous, low acid, full-bodied richness, and a stunningly proportioned, rich, intense finish. The influence of 18 months in new French oak casks gives the wine a subtle oaky note in addition to giving it excellent delineation. Because of the wine's softness and generosity, it can be drunk now as well as over the next 18-20 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/97 Original Wooden Case. 11 Beringer - Vintage - 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve

15 Silver Oak Cellars - Vintage - 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander

"...it is a sensational effort. The opaque plum/purple color is followed by a super nose of smoked herbs, melted licorice, and cassis jam. Full-bodied, with a silky texture, and an opulent personality, this sexy, full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignon will be delicious young, yet last for 1820 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 1/94 Original Carton. 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $325 - 450

"The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, as well as lots of density in the aromas and flavors. Exotic, with notes of tobacco, Provencal olives, jammy red and black fruits, and copious quantities of smoky, toasty oak, it possesses structure and tannin, but is a typically exotic, flamboyant, inyour-face Cabernet." 18 Robert Mondavi - Vintage - 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

14 Opus One - Vintage - 1997

"The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has a deep ruby/purple color, notes of black currants, minerals, and toasty oak, and an elegant, restrained, aromatic profile. In the mouth, there is high tannin, medium body, and excellent concentration." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/00 Original Wooden Case. 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $200 - 275

"A rich, decidedly earthy style of Opus, showing currant, anise, black cherry, mineral, leather and sage flavors that are focused and complex." Wine Spectator, 11/00 Original Wooden Case. Into Neck. 1 Imperial per lot $1100 - 1600

23 Staglin Family Vineyard - Vintage 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon

"Dark, rich and intensely concentrated, with a firm, tightly wound core of currant, black cherry, mineral, anise, sage and mocha-laced oak. Wellfocused, with firm acidity and firm yet supple tannins. A young blockbuster in need of cellaring." Wine Spectator, 7/02 3 Into Neck. 3 Magnums per lot $375 - 475

A superlative effort for the vintage, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a deep purple color along with sumptuous aromas of creme de cassis, blackberries, loamy soil, licorice, and high class toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied and opulent, with remarkable texture as well as length for a 2000, it can be drunk now and over the next 12-15 years. Kudos to the Staglins for this effort." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/03 Original Carton. 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $175 - 250

20 Silver Oak Cellars - Vintage - 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley touts an intense olive, smoky, toasty nose intermixed with kirsch liqueur and currant fruit. The wine is sweet, dense, with an opaque ruby/purple color, expansive fat mid-palate, and long finish." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/00 6 Base Neck, 6 Bottles per lot $350 - 475

24 Robert Mondavi - Vintage - 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve "The finest Private Reserve since the 1991, 1990, and 1987, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is extraordinary. There are 8,000 cases of this blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and small dollops of Merlot as well as Petit Verdot. A perfume of smoke, camphor, creme de cassis, cedar, and fruitcake is accompanied by a gentle giant of a wine. Powerful and impeccably balanced, with outstanding concentration, well-integrated wood, acidity, and tannin, and a long, nearly 60-second finish, this saturated ruby/purple-hued effort is a prodigious example of Cabernet Sauvignon." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 Original Wooden Case. 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $250 - 350

21 Beringer - Vintage - 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve "Rich and concentrated, though it veers toward herb, tobacco and bell pepper flavors, with a tart edge to the currant and wild berry fruit. Firmly tannic, complex and well-crafted, if shy of fully mature ripeness." Wine Spectator, 10/03 2 Original Cartons. 12 Base Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $500 - 700

22 Chateau St Jean - Vintage - 2000 Cinq Cepages

25 Joseph Phelps - Vintage - 2001 Insignia Proprietary Red Wine

"Smooth and harmonious, with ripe, rich, supple plum and blackberry fruit, shaded by cedar, anise, black cherry and spice attributes. Firms up and flexes its tannic strength on the finish. Very well-made." Wine Spectator, 10/03 Original Carton. 12 Base Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $600 - 850

"...continues to live up to my high praise from last year. Rich, elegant, and nuanced, this dense ruby/purple wine offers a nose of creme de cassis, incense, licorice, chocolate, and spice box. It is full-bodied, opulently styled with plenty of tannin, but the structural aspects of the wine are well-concealed by its intensity and overall richness." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 Original Carton. 12 Base Neck. 12 Bottles per lot $800 - 1100

Property Of A Convivial Collector

Coveted Magnums And Bottles of 1982 Lafite-Rothschild Acquired as futures and stored in a temperature controlled cellar 45 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage 1982 42 Bryant Family Vineyard - Vintage 2002 (1)

"Still extraordinary backward and youthful, this large-scaled (massive by Lafite's standards) wine should prove to be the greatest Lafite made after the 1953 and 1959. It continues to offer an exceptionally intense, compelling bouquet of herbs, blackcurrants, vanilla, lead pencil, and cedar. The wine reveals considerable tannin, as well as amazing, atypical power and concentration for Lafite. The hallmark elegance of this wine has not been compromised because of the vintage's tendency to turn out powerful and unctuously-textured, thick, juicy wines. Rich, full, and still youthful and unyielding, this should prove to be a fabulous LafiteRothschild - but only for those readers prepared to wait until 2003-2005 . It should easily last through the first three decades of the next century. A potential 100point wine!" Property Of An Engaging Entrepreneur

49 Chateau Branaire-Ducru - Vintage 1999

Rare Large Format Bordeaux

"The 1999 Branaire is from an under-rated estate. This is a beautifully perfumed effort revealing scents of graphite, lead pencil shavings, blueberries, raspberries, and black currants. The wine is rich, layered, mediumbodied, pure, and elegant. It is a complex St.Julien with good flavor depth, soft tannin, and unobtrusive acidity." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/02 Original Wooden Case. Into Neck. 1 Balthazar (12ltr) per lot $475 - 650

All acquired direct from negociant cellars in Bordeaux and stored in a professional temperature controlled facilty 47 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage 1994 "The 1994 appears to be the finest MoutonRothschild made following the 1986 and before the 1995's conception. The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermingled with smoke, pain grillee, spice, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the fine 1988... By the way, the Dutch artist, Appel, has created a gorgeous label for the 1994." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/97 Into Neck. 1 Imperial per lot $1100 - 1500

50 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron Vintage - 2003 "This is a brilliantly run property year in and year out, and especially since the mid- to late 1980s has produced one of the top four or five wines made in Pauillac in virtually every vintage. With 13.4% alcohol, the 2003 is one of the most powerful efforts this chateau has ever made. Its dense purple color is accompanied by sweet, jammy creme de cassis notes intermixed with roasted herbs, smoked meats, and chocolate. Although ripe, dense, full-bodied, and moderately tannic, it is silky (because of its low acidity and high glycerin) as well as accessible. It should firm up in the bottle, and be at its peak between 2008-2025." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/06 Original Wooden Case. Into Neck. 1 Salmanazar (9ltr) per lot $1200 - 1600

48 Chateau L' Angelus - Vintage - 1996 "A massive, powerful Angelus, this wine exhibits a saturated black/ruby/purple color as well as an impressively-endowed nose of dried herbs, roasted meats, new saddle leather, plum liqueur, and cassis. In the mouth, olive notes make an impression. This sweet, full-bodied, exceptionally concentrated wine is atypically backward and ferociously tannic. It was revealing more sweetness and forwardness immediately prior to bottling, but I would now recommend 7-8 years of cellaring." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/99 Original Wooden Case. 52 Chateau Haut-Brion - Vintage - 1989

Classic 1959 Latour, 1989 HautBrion And 1990 Cheval Blanc

"...1989 was an extraordinary success for Jean Delmas, the administrator of Haut-Brion and La Mission-Haut-Brion. The prodigious 1989 Haut-Brion is one of the greatest first-growths I have ever tasted. It has always reminded me of what the 1959 must have tasted like in its youth, but it is even richer and more compelling aromatically. The wine exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, as well as a sweet nose of jammy fruit, tobacco, spicy oak, minerals, and smoke. Fabulously concentrated, with huge levels of fruit, extract, and glycerin, this wine is nearly viscous because of its thickness and richness. Low acidity gives the wine even more appeal and adds to its precociousness." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/97 1- .9cm. 4- 1.2cm. 1- 1.4cm. 6 Bottles per lot $5000 - 6000

1959 Latour purchased at the inaugural Heublein auction and other wines acquired on initial release. All stored in a state of the art temperature controlled cellar 51 Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1959 "Dark garnet with an amber edge, the 1959 Latour reveals a touch of volatile acidity in the nose, along with aromas of melted caramel, tobacco, and jammy red and black fruits. As the wine sat in the glass, notes of minerals, coffee, spice, and underbrush emerged. There is still copious tannin in the finish (I am not sure it will ever be fully resolved), but this sumptuous, complex, fragrant, super-rich Latour cuts a broad swath across the palate..." 53 Chateau Cheval Blanc - Vintage - 1990

Tempting Highly Rated Wines Including Large Formats

"The wine possesses all the hallmarks of a hot, ripe year - low acidity, super-ripe, nearly overripe fruit, an opulent, oily texture, great sweetness of fruit, and a long, voluptuously-textured finish. In the most recent tasting, I almost mistook it for Le Pin given its showboat-like nose of coconut, toasty new oak, and gobs of smoky, blackcurranty, and cherry fruit. The wine is full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, with layers of extract, and well-concealed tannin. I am increasingly convinced that this is the most profound Cheval Blanc since the legendary 1982. Because of its fleshy, low-acid character, the wine can be drunk, but it is still youthful, with a deeper purple color than the more maturelooking 1989. It should offer exotic opulence for at least another 15-20 years. A compelling Cheval Blanc!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/94 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles

All acquired on initial release and stored in a professional temperature controlled warehouse 54 Chateau Leoville-Barton - Vintage 1989 "In most tastings of the 1989 and 1990 vintages I have had a strong preference for the 1990, but in this tasting the 1989 provided the most charming drinking with its soft, voluptuous texture, big, spicy, cedary nose, sweet, expansive fruit, medium body, and excellent richness and purity. The wine reveals no amber at the edge, but it tastes surprisingly evolved and already delicious. I would not hesitate to drink it over the next 1215+ years."Robert Parker,The Wine Advocate, 2/28/97 Pages 35-44 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $0 - 0

"This 123-acre estate, planted with 100% Sangiovese, is one of the treasures of the Piero Antinori empire. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva is the finest wine I have tasted from this relatively new estate (the average age of the vines is a lowly 12 years). The bouquet offers sweet black cherry, strawberry, and plum aromas. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with low acidity and ripe tannin, it is a voluptuous, pure, super-concentrated yet accessible 1997 Chianti Classico." 62 El Nido - Vintage - 2002 Clio

65 El Nido - Vintage - 2003 El Nido

"The sensational 2002 Clio, a blend of 70% Mourvedre (60-year old vines) and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon (25-year old vines), exhibits a dense purple color along with a rich, sumptuous bouquet of toasty vanillin, blueberries, blackberries, roasted espresso, chocolate, and earth. Full-bodied, with sweet tannin, fabulous concentration, a multilayered mouthfeel, and a long finish, this is a tour de force in winemaking. It provides strong evidence of what can be achieved in this once backwater/boondock viticultural region of Spain." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/05 Original Carton. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $175 - 250

"The inky purple 2003 El Nido, which comes from 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines (70%) and 61-year-old Mourvedre (30%), was aged 26 months in new French and American oak barrels. It exhibits leathery, creme de cassis, and pain grille characteristics, additional tannin and body, and a formidable palate. A wine of extraordinary extract and richness, it will be a target for old timers and reactionaries who will feel it is too internationally styled, but it is an eyeopening wine from an area better known for large cooperatives and mediocre quality. It should evolve for 15 or more years. Well-known Australian winemaker, Chris Ringland, oversees the winemaking at this estate, fashioning intriguing reds with great depth as well as richness. These wines have broken all the parameters previously established by the backwater appellation of Jumilla." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/06 Original Carton. 4 Into Neck. 4 Bottles per lot $300 - 400

63 El Nido - Vintage - 2002 El Nido "This stunning Spanish red further demonstrates what can be accomplished in Jumilla with modern winemaking and relatively old vines. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color to the rim as well as an extraordinary nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, creme de cassis, smoke, chocolate, and hints of tobacco as well as cedar. Rich and full-bodied, with less intrusive oak than in the Clio, this profound wine must be tasted to be believed." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 6/05 Original Carton. 4 Into Neck. 4 Bottles per lot $350 - 450

66 Numanthia - Vintage - 2003 Toro Numanthia "The 2003 Numanthia was fashioned from yields of one ton of fruit per acre (from a clone of Tempranillo that often has the highest polyphenols of any Tempranillo clone). This cuvee is made from 70- to 100-year-old vines planted at a 2,300 foot elevation, which no doubt accounts for the freshness in this massively rich, intense red. A vivid, intense nose of espresso roast, pain grille, sweet black cherries, and creme de cassis is followed by a full-bodied, intensely-concentrated, rich, well-delineated, moderately structured, pure red that can be drunk young or cellared for a decade." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/06 Original Carton. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $200 - 275

64 Celler Mas Doix - Vintage - 2003 Salanques "It is hard to believe this dazzling effort is made from declassified juice. The stunningly perfumed bouquet of raspberries and blackberries is followed by an elegant, medium to full-bodied, complex, nuanced wine with tremendous purity as well as a multilayered mid-palate and finish. Sweet tannin, fine acidity, and undeniable minerality suggest it will provide enjoyment now and over the next 10-12 years." "A “thermonuclear” fruit bomb, the 2003 Termanthia is a selection of the best grapes from the finest parcels that was aged in 100% new French oak for 20 months, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is an incredibly rich, dense purple-colored offering that possesses all the characteristics found in the Numanthia in addition to extra fragrance, intensity, and richness. Already drinkable, this stunning Spanish red will be fascinating to follow over the next decade." "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve exhibits an inky saturated purple color as well as a glorious perfume of melted chocolate, creme de cassis, cedar, and espresso. "The opaque purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon S2 (100% Cabernet) was barrelfermented in 100% new oak and aged in a combination of French and American barrels. It exhibits a spicy perfume of vanilla, black currants, sweet cherries, licorice, and cedar. Dense, opulent, expansive, and full-bodied, it is surprisingly fresh and well-delineated. I re-tasted this wine after it had been opened for 24 hours and double decanted, and it revealed sweeter tannin as well as greater fruit intensity, an attribute that should serve these wines well in their aging process." 84 Silver Oak Cellars - Vintage - 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa

"The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa looks to be one of the finest wines made by the winemaking team of proprietor Justin Meyer and winemaker/viticulturist Daniel Baron. The 1997 Napa is an impressive effort. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine has a flamboyant nose of fruitcake, licorice, Asian spice, black currants, and toasty wood. Deep, opulent, viscous, intense, chewy, and thick, it is a classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon made in an allAmerican oak lovers' style." "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot) shows some aggressive, toasty, charred, oaky notes along with melted asphalt. The wine is highly extracted, has plenty of tannin, and notes of smoke, cedar, cherries, and black currants. It is a very good 1998 with moderate tannin." 82 Viader - Vintage - 1997 Proprietary Red Wine "The terrific 1997 Proprietary Red is the finest Viader I have tasted. It is a wine of exceptional finesse and elegance, yet undeniable richness and intensity. This blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Cabernet Franc tastes like a top Graves from Bordeaux. Subtle spicy oak emerges from this dark ruby/purple-colored wine, along with scents of black currants, minerals, and lead pencil. In the mouth, earthy, terroir characteristics combine with sweet black fruits in this medium-bodied, rich wine. There is a juicy mid-palate as well as considerable grace and harmony in the finish. The tannin is largely obscured by the wine's outstanding concentration." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 1/00 6 Base Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $200 - 275

Eloge

"The majestic 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses the same characteristics as the 2001, just more of them. Boasting more perfume, a bigger attack and mid-palate as well as greater length and intensity, this beautiful Cabernet reveals notes of camphor intermixed with black currants, cherries, licorice, cedar, and minerals. Full-bodied and opulent with a structured finish, it is accessible now because of its wealth of fruit and concentration, but it should easily evolve for 15 or more years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $750 - 1000

"The Eloge, a brilliant Bordeaux-styled blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and occasionally Petit Verdot, is one of California’s most exciting proprietary reds. The 2002 Eloge (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot) possesses a dense purple color in addition to sumptuous aromas of sweet black fruits, high class cigar smoke, incense, cedar, and licorice. With superb fat and purity as well as a long, seamless, full-bodied, harmonious finish, it is already appealing, but will easily age for 1015 years." 97 Dominus - Vintage - 2002 Proprietary Red Wine

"As for the 2002 Hundred Acre (1,200 cases), this is a terrific example of great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. A seamless wine with extraordinary concentration, a dense purple color, a beautifully sweet nose of black cherry liqueur intermixed with cassis, graphite, smoke, and underbrush, it is layered, multi-dimensional, and opulent, with a long finish. Although more accessible and flashy than the 2001, it is capable of lasting 15 more years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2/05 Original Wooden Case. 3 Into Neck. 3 Bottles per lot $700 - 950

"Dominus is a large vineyard, and they have the ability to make a strict selection. The 2002 Dominus gets my nod as the greatest example of this cuvee since the 1991 and 1994. There are 4,500 cases of this 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot blend fashioned from minuscule yields ranging from 1.8 to 2.8 tons of fruit per acre. Christian Moueix told me that the phenolic material was higher analytically in 2002, as were the acids, which surprised everyone. The deep, saturated purple-colored 2002 boasts an extraordinary perfume of roasted coffee intermixed with black currants, cherries, cocoa, cedar, cigar smoke, and new saddle leather. A classic, full-bodied palate possesses great structure, tremendous depth, loads of tannin, and a multilayered, concentrated yet elegant finish. It is difficult to predict when this beauty will plateau in terms of maturity. My best guess is it needs 35 years of bottle age, and should last for 25 years." 103 Spottswoode - Vintage - 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

"Another strong Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate vineyards, the 2003 has a dense ruby/purple color and a beautiful nose of graphite intermixed with blueberry, creme de cassis, and acacia flower. The wine is full-bodied, has decent acidity, sweet, well-integrated tannin, and subtle wood. This is a beauty and certainly one of the more impressively constituted and elegant wines of the vintage." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/06 Original Carton. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $400 - 550

"Since 1990, Cabernet Sauvignon has an enviable track record at Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyard. Moreover, they should last for 20-30 or more years. My instincts suggest 2002 may be one of the finest Cabernets yet produced here, but the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is better every time I re-taste it. Its smoky, gamy, cedary, creme de cassis, tobacco, and leatherscented bouquet is Pauillac-like. Full-bodied with abundant ripe, silky tannin, this gorgeous effort may not be as seamless as the 2002, but it should last nearly as long ... at least two decades." 102 Harlan Maiden - Vintage - 2003 Proprietary Red Wine "Made in the Harlan Estate style, but more supple and evolved, the 2003 The Maiden exhibits plenty of caramel, black currant, and espresso roast characteristics, a fleshy mid-palate, and a long, supple finish." 107 Gemstone - Vintage - 2004 Facets Proprietary Red Wine

110 Ramey - Vintage - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Larkmead Vineyard

"A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 13% Cabernet Franc, the 2004 Facets of Gemstone exhibits a similar character, but more mocha, black cherry, chocolate, and espresso-like notes, a plumper, more lush sweetness (no doubt because of the higher percentage of Merlot), and great aromatics, texture, expansiveness, and length." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/06 Original Carton. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $250 - 350

"The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Larkmead (1,360 cases from a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, and 9% Merlot) has that gorgeously pure creme de cassis that I notice consistently in Screaming Eagle. The wine is fullbodied, elegant, sexy and rich, and should easily last and evolve for 10-15 or more years. In fact, I would give it 2-3 years of bottle age. This is a phenomenal wine and one of the finest 2004 Cabernet Sauvignons." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/06 Original Carton. 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $325 - 450

108 Hourglass - Vintage - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

111 Araujo Estate - Vintage - 1998 (2) Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard

"Hourglass’s 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, made by well-known consulting winemaker Bob Foley, is a blockbuster, opulent, complex, deep ruby/purple effort. Beautiful aromas of melted licorice, white chocolate, creme de cassis, flowers, and background oak soar from this bewitching, opulent, fleshy, succulent Cabernet. This fullbodied beauty will provide delicious drinking early on, and age nicely for 10-15 years." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/06 6 Into Neck. 6 Bottles per lot $475 - 650

"The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Jericho Canyon Vineyard (a 1,730-case cuvee of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc) has an inky dark ruby/purple color, a wonderfully sweet nose of espresso roast, fudge, blackberry, and cassis with a hint of incense and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, broadly flavored, opulent, and voluptuous, and that in itself seems to give the wine its current appeal, although I think this is a candidate for at least two decades of cellaring." Deep crimson-colored, it offers an enticing perfume of toasty new oak, pencil lead, spice box, clove, allspice, red currants and black cherry. Seamless on the palate, the wine has gobs of ripe, savory flavors, well-concealed tannin, excellent aging potential, and a long, pure finish. It will provide much pleasure between 2012 and 2025." 123 Chateau Latour - Vintage - 1982

1961 Lafite, 1982 Latour, 2003 Bordeaux Large Formats, 1976 Grange and 1974 Heitz Martha's Vineyard

"For the last three or four years, the 1982 Latour has begun to look like a clone of the magnificently opulent, powerful 1961. The 1982 continues to surge in quality, moving from strength to strength. If I were going to pull the cork for pure pleasure on any of the Big 8, it would be this wine. Still an infant in terms of development, the wine displays extraordinary richness, ripeness, and the beginning of that compelling Latour perfume of cassis, cedar, walnuts, and minerals. Extremely full-bodied, concentrated, and thick, this viscous, chewy, large-scaled wine is also amazingly soft. Huge levels of tannin are concealed behind the layers of fruit. More and more I am convinced that this is another unqualified legend of the vintage. " Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/95 Top Shoulder. Nicked Capsule. 1 Bottle per lot $1400 - 1800

Acquired on initial release and at auction and all stored in a custom home temperature controlled cellar 122 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage 1961 "...blends spicy, nutmeglike aromas with abundant fruit flavors and meaty undertones. 127 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild - Vintage 2003

"From an unheralded terroir, this Monbousquet was made from extremely low yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare. Aged sur lie and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it exemplifies proprietor Perse's enormous efforts. Black and blue to the rim, this wine represents the essence of this terroir. Its saturated black/purple color is accompanied by extraordinary aromatics of sweet blackberries, chocolate, coffee, incense, new saddle leather, and vanilla. Remarkable intensity, lively acidity, and abundant tannin provide definition and grip. This is the most intense, muscular, and "biggest" Monbousquet made to date, and that is saying something considering the 1998 and 1999! So be prepared, it is remarkable wine." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 4/03 6 Into Neck. 1 Nicked Label. 6 Bottles per lot $500 - 700

"Backward, powerful, and extremely tannic, the dense purple-colored 2003 Mouton-Rothschild, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, fashioned from yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare, with a finished alcohol of 12.9%, improves dramatically with aeration. With fullbodied, meaty, powerful, dry flavors as well as a huge finish, this high class wine should be at its finest between 2012-2040+. During its sojourn in barrel, it reminded me of a hypothetical blend of the 1982 and 1986 Moutons, but since bottling, it appears different, and even more tannic than those two vintages." 129 Penfolds - Vintage - 1976 Grange Hermitage "A legendary vintage, this massive, powerhouse wine is a reference point for what great Grange Hermitage is all about. The color remains a thick, opaque ruby/garnet with no signs of amber or brown. The wine is beginning to reveal some evolution in its huge, fragrant nose of coffee, cedar, chocolate, prunes, and overripe blackcherries and currants. With massive richness and body, flavors that coat the palate in a viscous, pure, mindboggling manner, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute, this huge Grange Hermitage that may one day resemble in its decadent richness and thick, unctuous texture, such Bordeaux legends as the 1947 Petrus, 1947 Cheval Blanc, and 1947 Lafleur. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15 years. A natural born legend!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/95 Very Top Shoulder. 130 Heitz - Vintage - 1974 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard

1982 Lafite With Other Classic Bordeaux And California Wines

"I had this wine twice over a period of thirty days, rating it an astounding 99 and 98 points. A monumental California Cabernet Sauvignon, it appears to have approached its plateau of maturity but should easily last for 20-25 more years. There is no rust, amber, or brown to the saturated dark purple color. The spectacular, huge, Mouton-Rothschild-like nose of mint, cassis, lead pencil, and toast is remarkably youthful. Staggeringly concentrated, this fullbodied, super-rich wine possesses moderate tannin, fresh, lively acidity, and a blockbuster, rich, fleshy finish. This is a monumental effort!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 8/94 2 Base Neck. 1 Slightly Bin Soiled And Very Slightly Nicked Label. 2 Bottles per lot $1500 - 2100

All wines acquired on initial release and stored in a temperature controlled cellar 131 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - Vintage 1982 "Still extraordinary backward and youthful, this large-scaled (massive by Lafite's standards) wine should prove to be the greatest Lafite made after the 1953 and 1959. Rich, full, and still youthful and unyielding, this should prove to be a fabulous LafiteRothschild - but only for those readers prepared to wait until 2003-2005. It should easily last through the first three decades of the next century. A potential 100point wine!" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 12/95 Top Shoulder. 141 Chateau Margaux - Vintage - 1990 "For me, the 1990 Margaux continues to be the quintessential example of this chateau. In addition to being profoundly concentrated, its ethereal bouquet of sweet black fruits, cedar, spices, flowers, smoke, and vanilla is remarkably wellformed and intense. In the mouth, there is not a hard edge to this classic wine, which is superconcentrated, soft, silky-textured, and opulent. It displays an opaque ruby/purple color, a compelling bouquet, and exquisite layers of flavors that cascade over the palate without any notion of toughness or coarseness. The acidity is low, although sufficient enough to provide vibrancy and focus. This wine's significant tannin level is remarkably well-concealed by the wealth of fruit. Although still an infant in terms of development, this fabulous Margaux is already drinkable. There have been so many great vintages of Margaux under the Mentzelopoulos regime that it is almost inconceivable that the 1990 could outrank the 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986, and 1995, but, in my opinion, it possesses the potential." 167 Hundred Acre Vineyard - Vintage - 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon "As for the 2002 Hundred Acre (1,200 cases), this is a terrific example of great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Into Neck. 1 Magnum per lot $600 - 800

Bordeaux Style Bottles Into Neck: Normal fill level for younger wines. In wines over 10 years of age, this level suggests excellent provenance. Fill levels that are into the neck are rarely noted, except to emphasize a particularly good fill level when other fill levels in the same lot are less than perfect. Base Neck: A common fill level at which many producers release their wine. For wines of any age, this level suggests excellent provenance. Very Top Shoulder: Acceptable fill level for wines 8 or more years of age. Suggests proper storage conditions throughout its life. Natural occurrence for wines of this age. Top Shoulder: Acceptable fill level for wines 15 or more years of age. Suggests proper storage conditions throughout its life. High Shoulder: Usually not a problem for wines in excess of 20 years of age This level may be caused by easing of the cork combined with natural evaporation. Check the clarity and color of the wine while in the bottle as a secondary indication of provenance. Mid Shoulder and Below: May suggest ullage during the life of the wine due to either easing of the cork or inconstant storage conditions - not abnormal for wines 30 years or more of age. Definitely inspect clarity and color of the wine while in the bottle, as well as condition of the cork as additional indicators of risk. Low Shoulder and Below: Suggests poor provenance. Definitely a risk and generally not sellable, with exceptions given to rare bottlings and/or labels. Not recommended for drinking.

Burgundian Style Bottles Because the shape of Burgundian style bottles does not allow for a level rating system based on the shoulder of the bottle, levels are described by means of centimeters below the cork. Generally, wines with a 3 centimeter fill level or above are considered normal for wines younger than 10 years of age. Wines of 15 or more years of age with fill levels between 3 and 5 centimeters are generally considered to be sound provenance, though consideration should be given to clarity and color of the wine in the bottle, as well as condition of the cork. Burgundy bottles with fill levels below 7 centimeters are at high risk of being damaged or undrinkable, and therefore most likely unsaleable

Additional Notes It should be noted that some producers tend to over-fill their bottles during the bottling process, which may cause a few drops of wine to become trapped between the cork and the capsule. this is not a sign of a faulty cork, nor of ullage. Please be aware however that ullage is a natural occurrence in older wines, which may be accelerated due to poor provenance. Though every effort is made to accurately describe older vintage wines, corks over 20 years old begin to lose their elasticity and levels can change between cataloguing and sale. Old corks have also been known to fall during or after shipment.
