HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION (HOA) RULES AND REGULATIONS Many of you take those Governing Documents after closing and box them up or set them aside. I thought maybe it was time to provide you with some information on why there are Rules and Regulations in Sun City. A Homeowners Association is usually a non-profit entity established for a single reason, to govern and control use and common areas throughout the neighborhood. Whether you live in a Condo or Townhome or Single-Family detached residence, your Homeowners Association will most likely have a set of documents that restrict use or state the responsibility of different items pertaining to the neighborhood you live in. HOA RULES & REGULATIONS FACTS Your Homeowners Association Rules and Regulations usually precede other official HOA Documents such as your Homeowners Association, Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&R’s), your Homeowners Association By-Laws, and/or your Homeowners Association Articles of Incorporation. Your HOA Rules & Regulations are a set of Rules or different Regulations that either restrict or grant permission for certain actions on the premises of your neighborhood. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY RULES? Homeowners Associations are enlisted in the community to keep values up and to make sure your neighbor doesn’t run an auto shop out of his garage. No weeds and trash containers left out are just some basic rules that might be restricted within your community. Other rules that are prominent within Homeowners Associations are as follows: 1. Color restrictions for painting projects 2. Parking restrictions 3. Common Area vs. Personal Property maintenance issues 4. HOA Satellite Dish installation and placement 5. Architectural changes and additions WHAT IF I’M IN VIOLATION? WILL I BE FINED FOR THE INFRACTION? In most cases, violations or infractions of HOA CC&R’s or Homeowners Association Rules and Regulations can be resolved before any nominal fine is applied to your account. If the violation of the HOA Rules and Regulations is more serious or precedes a warning letter, expect to see a fine issued for violating the set HOA Rules and Regulations. The best way to avoid being penalized for breaking the rules is to get to know your HOA Governing Documents or reviewing them before you purchase a house in the neighborhood of your choice. Our job is to work together for compliance. We realize your homes are a major investment and your castle. We want to help you keep harmony and work within the guidelines. If you have questions on any changes to your property make the call to our office and check on what needs to be done before you start. Our Goal is to work together!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY HISTORY! According to the History website (www.history.com) Mother’s Day holiday was officially made a holiday by Woodrow Wilson in 1914. However, it took the persistence and perseverance of Anna Jarvis from 1905 through to 1914 who argued that American holidays were biased toward male achievements. After the death of her mother, Anna dedicated herself to seeing this holiday added to the national calendar. Her first efforts included recruiting financial backing from a Philadelphia department store owner, John Wanamaker of Wanamaker retail store. With the funds, Jarvis hosted the first official Mothers Day celebration at a Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. However, that same day thousands of people attended a Mother’s Day event at one of Wanamaker’s retail stores. Anna started a massive letter writing campaign to newspapers and prominent politicians urging the adoption of a special day honoring motherhood. By 1912 many states, towns and churches had adopted Mother’s Day as an annual holiday and she established the Mother’s Day International Association to help promote her cause. Finally, Anna Jarvis had achieved her goal and Mother’s Day was made a nationally recognized holiday. Mother’s Day and its new notoriety enabled florists, card companies and other merchants to capitalize on its popularity. Once the holiday became commercialized, Jarvis began publically denouncing the holiday and even actively lobbied to have the holiday removed from the calendar! Mother’s Day is a special day for families to recognize the sacrifices that all moms extended to their loved ones. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Mother’s Day with your special women in your lives! Manager of Governance and Standards

HAPPY SPRING TO ALL! As we welcome the spring season, the Governance and Standards department would like to help you plan for the most common outdoor projects, as well as offer several reminders: Projects planned for the exterior of your homes must be submitted to the Modifications Committee for review. Please submit an Application for Change – available online or at the Members Service Desk – prior to beginning your project. The committee meets weekly on Wednesdays. Projects must be submitted by noon on a Tuesday in order to be reviewed at the next day’s committee meeting. Please review this “quick guide” to some of the most common projects. If you have questions regarding these or other projects, feel free to call the Governance & Standards office, or come in and see us during our drop-in hours which are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am – 11:30am. Putting in Mulch? Dark Shredded Hardwood mulch may be used in landscape beds – and does not require approval from the Modifications Committee. However other types of mulch, including red, colored or stone mulch, must be applied for and approved by the Modifications Committee. Feeding Birds? Each household may put out a maximum of three (3) bird feeders and one (1) bird house. Bird feeders and houses are allowed in the rear privacy area of the home and should not be placed in the front yards or the parkway trees. Installation of a birdhouse on perimeter walls or under the eaves of the home is prohibited. Cylinder Feeders cannot exceed 18’ long and 4” diameter. Flatbed feeders cannot exceed 18’ in length or width. Please note that spreading seed or other food on the ground is prohibited according to County Ordinances. Edging planting beds? Decorative edging should not exceed three (3) inches high along sidewalks and four (4) inches high around mulch areas. Invisible edging used to hold back the soil should be made of plastic, rubber, or metal and shall not exceed one (1) inch from ground grade once installed. Invisible edging does not require approval prior to installation. Fence style edging is not permitted.

Outdoor décor? Please remember that decorative objects are limited to one (1) object per ten (10) feet of home frontage. In other words, if your home is fifty feet wide, you may display a total of five decorative items. Statues, artifacts and decorative items (i.e. birdbaths and planters) are to be composed of clay, concrete, metal or wood, and are only allowed in the Privacy/Improvement area. The maximum height of decorative objects is four (4) feet in Detached Project Neighborhoods (single family homes) and three (3) feet in Attached Product Neighborhoods. Plastic yard ornamentation, artificial flowers and vegetation and similar items are prohibited. Planting Vegetables? Residents in Detached Product Neighborhoods may have vegetable gardens in the rear privacy area. Plants that bear fruit are prohibited in front yards or along the sides of your home. Any flower or vegetable garden located outside of the Privacy Area will require committee approval and a Neighbor Review Form. In Attached Product Neighborhoods Vegetable Gardens are prohibited; however vegetable plants may be grown in containers on the patio or deck area. Painting? Many doors, shutters and garage doors are experiencing fading from years of sunshine. If the painted area on your exterior need a fresh coat – and you plan to repaint in the original color – this project does not need to be submitted to the Modifications Committee, as the color is not being changed. However if you plan to change the colors, please submit an Application for Change with a paint chip showing the desired color. Our department does have one set of paint chips that you may review to assist you in selecting a color. Worried about weeds? Using a pre-emergent weed preventive on your lawn can help minimize weeds. According to Chris Leuck – our Landscape Manager – the early spring application of fertilizer / preemergent is most effective once the soil temperature rises above 50-55 degress for a couple of days consecutively. We hope that these reminders help you to plan for a bright and carefree spring!

Team Lead for Centegra Wellness Center 847-515-2078 office | 847-515-2334 fax | [email protected]

MAY 2015 PROGRAMS Centegra Health System’s goal is to provide you the advanced medical services you need close to home. We provide The Wellness Center, the Centegra WalkIn Clinic, laboratory services and many prescription medications right in your community so you can get in, get out and get back to your favorite activities. Recently, some residents have inquired how Centegra is reimbursed for the care provided by the Walk-In Clinic and laboratory services. Just as the doctor’s office, we bill the patient’s insurance for these medical services. As always, Sun City residents who use the Walk-In Clinic or laboratory services simply need to provide proof of insurance and any applicable copays, and we’ll take it from there. Also, The Wellness Center provides informative lectures, health screenings and wellness assessments exclusively to Sun City residents for free or at a reduced cost. The Wellness Center is a community outreach program of Centegra Health System. The presence of The Wellness Center and the Walk-in Clinic, as well as their staff and services, are independent of Sun City Huntley Association, and therefore do not impact resident association fees in any way. Centegra is pleased to meet the needs of Sun City residents right in their back yard as well as in the community. The new Centegra Hospital-Huntley will open in late summer of 2016, and will include a cardiac catheterization laboratory. That means Sun City residents will have close-to-home access to routine and emergency cardiac care. As we look ahead to new and exciting services in the Huntley community, we encourage you to share your feedback about the care you’d like to receive. We look forward to our continued partnership and to inspiring and engaging you in your health and wellness. 1802-05 THE VIKINGS AT THE FIELD MUSEUM When people think of Vikings, they typically think of violent invaders with horned helmets. These conceptions are rooted in latter-day artistic depictions, not facts as you will learn when you visit the Viking exhibit at the Field Museum. It’s the only U.S.A. stop for this export from the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm and Austria’s Museum Partner. Given the Vikings rank just below dinosaurs and Robots on the cool things scale, the exhibit should spike people to learn about the real Vikings. It’s more accurate to think of them as people who were out exploring the world and, building relationships. Vikings were more often craftsmen and traders than warriors. Among the many artifacts on display highlights include a 27-foot-long replica of a Viking ship called Krampmacken with a replica sail hand woven from wool. Also in the exhibit are videos, sound installations. a listing station that narrates Norse sagas and interactives (some with touch screens and quite a few are mechanical). You will have time to visit many of the other great exhibits at the museum. Lunch will be on your own, as there are two restaurants right in the museum. Sun City Bicylcle Club

Our May 13th regular meeting at Meadow View Lodge will start at 8:30am with coffee and donuts and the business meeting starting at 9am. Membership dues will be collected for 2015. New members are always welcome. After the business meeting the Wildflower Lake Fishing Tournament, which includes Bass, Cat Fish, Northern Pike and Carp, will run from 10am through noon. All fish caught, except Carp, are catch and release. The shore lunch at the pavilion will start at 12:30pm. Master Chefs Jerry Cieciwa, Kenn Ellis and Ed Dziubinski will be serving lunch.

The CylePaths Bicycle Club sponsors organized bike rides for all levels of riders and promotes bicycle education and safety. The season runs Spring, Summer, and Fall with regularly scheduled rides on Wednesdays and Saturdays. (See the website for specifics.) Dues are only $5 per year. Let’s Ride! Saturday rides are “show’n’go,” which means we meet at Meadow View Lodge (MVL) and choose a destination as a group (usually based on which direction the wind is blowing). All rider-levels are accommodated. Advanced riders may add additional miles to the base ride. Now that the weather has gotten a lot more bikingfriendly, we have moved our Saturday show’n’go rides start time up to 9am. Wednesday rides are lunch/breakfast rides, and our start time is based on what time the restaurant or bakery to which we are riding opens. Wednesday rides alternate between trail rides and road rides, but they all start at MVL. For the trail rides, we carpool or caravan from MVL to the trailheads. For specifics, check the website. And check the website for the latest news updates. For example, see a video of the guest speaker at our March meeting, or find a link to “8 Core Exercises Every Cyclist Should Do.” No matter what your fitness level, if you can ride a little or a lot, we have a group in which you’ll feel comfortable every Wednesday and Saturday (over 40 degrees and dry pavement).

Spring Open House - Sunday, May 17, 2015 - 11am until 4pm The snow has finally melted, our G gauge track is still in place and hopefully by the time you read this, the tulips are blooming, the birds are singing and spring has returned to Sun City. It has been another brutal winter but what better way to celebrate Spring then spending a Sunday afternoon in May at the train club. So mark the date now; Sunday, May 17 from 11am until 4pm. The G scale members, in addition to repairing and aligning the tracks, are busy restoring and cleaning the buildings and structures. N scale members are feverishly working to add scenery and fine tune the mountain thunderstorm. O gauge is expanding the carnival area while HO members are hard at work with developing a control panel that will display all switches, train positioning and blocks, and derailments. So make plans now to come down and spend a spring Sunday afternoon with us. Weekend Operations Return for 2015 Kickoff date for Sunday Operations will be Sunday May 24, the weekend after the Spring Open House, and continue throughout the summer. Please note that Sunday operations will be dependent on weather conditions and availability of train crews. We will continue to post our sign “Trains are Running” at the entrance to the baseball parking lot, and we will also post a reminder on the Sun City website under “Charter Club Happenings” on the Sun City home page (sccah.com). Operating hours are from 1 to 4pm. Both events will be held in the backyard and basement of the MiIlgrove Woodshop, 13400 Sun City Blvd. Huntley IL, 60142. Admission is free but we ask that children be accompanied by adults. Guests may call 847-669-2392 or log on to the Sun City website at sccah.com to get updates for upcoming events. RV Travelers

The RV Travelers’ traveling season starts in May with a trip to Wisconsin. A visit to Old World Wisconsin is being planned, along with some horse play at the Dancing Horses Theater. Toss in a boat ride and tour of the Black Point Estate and this outing should be a great kickoff for the club. June brings a return visit to Shipshewana, Indiana with the focus on the Amish environment that this area is famous for. The July outing will be a first international trip for the RV Travelers to Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. There are several museums of interest and a scenic train ride through the 575 feet deep Agawa Canyon. Other than backpacking, this 114 mile ride is the only way to get there. The second half of the season starts out with an ever popular return visit to Branson, Missouri in August. No matter whether you have been there before, there are always more shows to see and things to do. August leads into September with an outing to Dearborn, Michigan to see the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Automobiles have been around a long time, but Dearborn is what really put our country on wheels and seeing this area will really give us a whole new perspective on the automobile generation. Every season must end and the RV Travelers end up in Galena, Illinois for the October event. In days past, some of our members may have paddled down the Galena River in a canoe. This visit will encompass the town and surrounding area as canoe paddling back up-river may not be quite as enjoyable as it was when we were younger.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP The death of our spouse forever changes our world. Many of us find ourselves in an empty house. Suddenly we can feel so very lonely and so many things loom up. The companionship and understanding of other grievers can help. The Sun City Grief Support Group has a meeting every week so its members are able to share with others who also have experienced the loss of their spouse. The group welcomes new members because we very much appreciate the welcome that was given to us. The group is self-directed by its membership and does not charge people to attend meetings. Meeting attendance is open ended and our members attend meetings as they choose. We help each other in the rebuilding of our lives. We have found that through caring and sharing comes healing. The Grief Support Group meets every Friday at 10am in the Community Room of the PNC Bank, just southeast of the Del Webb Blvd and Illinois 47 intersection.
