Mindfulness-Based Stress Meditation Mindfulness is paying attention to the present as it unfolds moment by moment. Practicing mindfulness can help you to live each moment to the fullest. The program includes instruction in various practices including: breathing awareness, body scan, walking meditation, and eating meditation. After each practice, the group engages in guided discussion. This program is modeled on the internationally acclaimed Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. DAY: Monday

Faculty, students and staff are invited to enroll in one or more of these non-credit courses. Whether to improve an existing skill or explore a new field of interest, we think you will find the offerings exciting and worthwhile.

REGISTRATION: Register Monday, September 8th, through Friday, September 26th, 2014 at the Student Center Main Desk. All payments must be made in full at time of registration. VINYASA (FLOW) YOGA with Angelica Angelica is a second-year medical student at SUNY Downstate. She has been practicing Yoga for over six years as a way to connect to her body and mind, learn, heal, give gratitude, cultivate openness and maintain perspective. She received her 200-hour intensive Yoga and meditation training in India in 2012 and taught Yoga in North Carolina prior to moving to Brooklyn. She looks forward to integrating Yoga into her future medical practice. Contact: [email protected] 15. VINYASA FLOW YOGA Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement," and Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow. AQUATICS PROGRAM SWIMMING with Anthony C. Anthony Christopher is a Downstate Alumnus who has been teaching swimming to Student Center members for the past 30 years. Anthony has years of experience in stroke technique and development, and wishes everyone a great Fall swim season. Contact: [email protected] 1. He recently graduated from Baruch College, majoring in Marketing and Advertising. Swimming is a deep passion of his, especially after a knee injury from playing professional soccer. Swimming became an excellent recreational activity to maintain good shape. Contact: [email protected] 7. VINYASA (FLOW) YOGA with Angelica Angelica is a second-year medical student at SUNY Downstate. She has been practicing Yoga for over six years as a way to connect to her body and mind, learn, heal, give gratitude, cultivate openness and maintain perspective. She received her 200-hour intensive Yoga and meditation training in India in 2012 and taught Yoga in North Carolina prior to moving to Brooklyn. VINYASA FLOW YOGA Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement," and Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Mindfulness-Based Stress Meditation Mindfulness is paying attention to the present as it unfolds moment by moment. Practicing mindfulness can help you to live each moment to the fullest. The program includes instruction in various practices including: breathing awareness, body scan, walking meditation, and eating meditation. After each practice, the group engages in guided discussion. This program is modeled on the internationally acclaimed Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. DAY: Monday
