Counseling for depression, inappropriate behavior, family issues, emotional crises, study/time management help, etc. Services are free to currently enrolled UAB students Women’s Counseling Services z z z

Part of the CWC and available to all students (not just women) Licensed professional counselor Issues addressed include (but are not restricted to) eating disorders, relationship problems, sexual assault and abuse, sexual harassment, and stress management.

The UAB Counseling & Wellness Center cannot provide counseling for people who are seriously mentally ill. This includes students with acute or chronic clinical conditions or those needing specialized services. CWC does not offer formal clinical diagnostic evaluations, nor do they dispense any medications. Doctoral and masters-level interns are employed to help provide health and counseling services. They do not counsel students who are actively involved in personal counseling elsewhere.

How do students schedule an appointment to see a counselor? z

Call or come by the office in the Holley-Mears Building, Suite 150 (located at 924 19th Street South). Once assigned to a counselor, they'll call student to schedule an appointment. They will also offer names and numbers of other agencies that might be able to see you sooner. They can also contact by email, if preferred, but can not guarantee complete confidentiality of any communication made by email.

How Does DSS Help? z

The Steps in the Accommodation Process: z z z z z

The student meets with DSS to discuss accommodation requests. DSS prepares an accommodation letter to the instructor of each course. The student hand-delivers each accommodation letter. The student discusses with the instructor how accommodations will be implemented. The student schedules test accommodations with the instructor approximately one week before each scheduled exam.
