Rottingdean Arts

Rottingdean Arts was formed in January 2011 and is now completing its second successful year of operation. It was originally formed to lead an initiative to create a new performance Stage on the Rottingdean Terraces and also to present an annual series of arts and music events in the village It initially raised £20,000 to create this Stage with generous donations from local people and businesses. Working closely with Brighton and Hove City Council and other organisations like PARC, Rottingdean Parish Council and Rottingdean Trade, Business and Professional Association, the new Stage has now housed two successful summer seasons of concerts and entertainment of all kinds. This has greatly enhanced the arts and cultural provision in the village and events have been much enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Rottingdean Arts is now committed to continuing with the following aims: •

Promote an annual series of music and arts events in the village in various venues.

Organise a Spring Music Festival in March.

Present a number of concerts on the Terraces Stage during the summer months.

This brochure gives you full outline details of Rottingdean Arts 2013 Programme of Events including the Spring Music Festival, other events throughout the year and the concerts we are organising on the Terraces Stage in the summer. The season commences with a Guitar and Flute Recital by visiting guitarist from Australia, Julian Byzantine, who made such a hit with his recital in the village two years ago. This time he is joined by distinguished flautist Anna Noakes for a recital in the Village Hall on Friday, February 1, featuring popular Brazilian music. The Spring Music Festival runs from Wednesday, March 13 – Sunday, March 24, and highlights include the Band of the Corps of the Royal Engineers; an Evening with George Gershwin and Cole Porter with Elaine Delmar and her Trio; a Gilbert and Sullivan Choral Workshop; a performance by The London Chorale and English Concert Orchestra of the MOZART REQUIEM; Jazz at the Plough; a Latin American Evening; a Festival Folk Concert with the Copper Family and folk concertina legend John Kirkpatrick; a German Chamber Orchestra playing Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli and Grieg; the brilliant baroque ensemble Red Priest performing their new programme Handel in the Wind, a Songs from the Shows dinner in the Village Hall featuring West End Star, Gerard Carey and various band concerts in village pubs. It promises to be a marvellous 12 days of high-level music making and we do hope that you will give it your full support. Other events later in the year include the visit of a top Danish International Choir from Copenhagen, a Workshop Performance of Mozart’s wonderful The Marriage of Figaro in the Village Hall and four varied concerts on the Terraces Stage in June-August. As I say, full details are included in this brochure, including Box Office information. We hope that you will want to become involved in Rottingdean Arts in 2013 by becoming a Friend, Patron, Sponsor or Donor and full details of how you can support us, in addition to attending concerts, are also printed at the back of this brochure. We depend on your financial assistance in order to promote this exciting season of events. I look forward to seeing you at 2013 Rottingdean Arts presentations.
