This booklet contains information on some of the excursions available, as well as additional information on money matters, shopping and the like. As we strive to offer the best possible value, we carefully evaluate each excursion to ensure it meets our high standards. Therefore, we reserve the right to cancel any excursion which does not provide the utmost satisfaction and similarly we may also vary the itinerary or add new ones as they become available.

GOOD TO KNOW FOOD & DRINK

BANKS

Lunch, which is the largest of the three meals, is served from 1 to 4 pm and dinner from 9 to 11 pm. Nightclubs rarely get going before 2 am.

Banks are open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 or 9 am to 1 or 2 pm and, in large cities, from 4 or 5 to 8 pm In smaller towns and during the summer, banks are closed on Saturday. It’s generally not a good idea to use banks located near monuments or tourist sites. ATMs can be found throughout Barcelona.

Meal times differ from those in Canada, except in some resort areas.

SHOPPING

Stores usually run from 9:30 or 10 am to 1:30 or 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 or 9 pm. Most department stores are open all day. Stores are closed all day Sunday and some also close on Saturday afternoons.

TAXIS

The local currency is the Euro (€)

TIPPING

Tip is not included on the bill. Although not obligatory, it is customary to leave 10% of the total.

Minimum fare: E2.05 The taxi service in Barcelona operates two fares: T-1 applies on weekdays between 8 am and 8 pm in the Greater Barcelona area. T-2 applies weekday evenings between 8 pm and 8 am and 24 hours a day on Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays in the Greater Barcelona area.

SUBWAY

The Barcelona Metro is made up of five lines (L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5) and the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat), which includes three additional lines (L6, L7 and L8). The metro operates as follows: Sunday to Thursday: 5 am – midnight Friday: 5 – 2 am Saturday: Continuous service Public Holidays: 5 am – midnight

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of vibrant Barcelona. Explore Plaça de Catalunya, Via Laietana, the Gothic district, Cathedral and Plaça de Sant Jaume, home of the Generalitat of Catalonia and City Hall. Continue to the Olympic Village and Harbour to admire the Columbus Monument in honour of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage to America. Then continue up to Montjuïc by cable car to enjoy a panoramic view from the top of the Olympic Stadium, Palau Sant Jordi and the Calatrava Tower. Admire reproductions of the various architectural styles of Spain and taste Catalan sparkling wine during a tour of the Poble Espanyol open-air museum, known as the Spanish Village.

Tour Barcelona, the capital of Catalan Art Nouveau, where the famous architect, Antoní Gaudí, lived and worked. Stop at Güell Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by Gaudí. From the outside, see the Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family (Sagrada Familia), Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece. Then our tour continues to Paseo de Gracia to see Gaudi’s famous apartment buildings (façades) like Casa Milà (La Pedrera) and Casa Batlló. The tour ends at Casa Batlló, Paseo de Gracia 43.

Drive through small picturesque villages on your way to the majestic mountain of Montserrat, rising 4,051 feet (1,235 metres) above ground. Continue with a visit to the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, one of Spain’s most important pilgrimage sites for hundreds of years, and see the 12th century Romanesque sculpture of the black Virgin of Montserrat, also known as la Moreneta. You might even be fortunate enough to hear one of the delightful midday performances of the children’s choir (except in July and August).

Hop on the double-decker tourist bus and discover Barcelona at your own pace! Travel the east-bound or west-bound route. With the same ticket, you can get on and off all day long, change route and learn about the history of the city in several languages through an audio system with earphones. Use the provided city guide and map to discover all the stops and available discounts at different establishments. The buses are accessible to people with limited mobility, equipped with an electric sliding roof in case of rain and attendants are always on board.

This Camp Nou tour is the best way to get to know the Barcelona Football Club, commonly known as Barça. Get a first-hand look at the day-to-day lives of club members and feel the magic of a five-star venue. Follow in the footsteps of historic players like Kubala, Cruyff, Maradona, Guardiola and Ronaldinho. See the president’s box, the press area and the changing room. Walk down the tunnel and onto the pitch where you can enjoy a panoramic view. Also visit the Club Museum where you can admire personal belongings of the stars that have helped make the Barcelona Football Club what it is today. Transportation not included.

Take off on a tour of Costa Brava. Stop at Lloret de Mar to embark on a 45-minute cruise for spectacular views of the craggy cliffs along the shore and the multitude of hidden coves, or calas. Stop at Tossa de Mar, an ancient fishing village. Spend your free time visiting a medieval castle and the Old Town’s narrow and bustling streets filled with shops and restaurants. Or relax on the beach surrounded by the beautiful scenery and take in views of the castle. Continue to Pals, a stunning example of a Catalonian medieval village dating from 889 AD. Gaudí, an innovator of his time, has left behind numerous treasures for the discerning tourist to discover in Barcelona. La Sagrada Familia is one of the most visited buildings in the world. Visit the astonishing interior of this church, where the ceiling reaches 70 metres high. Antoní Gaudí designed a richly and symbolically decorated Latin cross plan with five aisles. Also visit La Sagrada Familia’s museum, where you will see drawings, plaster models and pictures of the history and development of this basilica, from its early beginnings to the present day. The museum will also provide valuable information on Gaudi’s life and career.

Discover the characters of the book The Shadow of the Wind during this literary walking tour. Feel the charm and mystery of early 20th century Barcelona. Visit Santa Anna Street, the Arch of the Theatre, La Rambla, and more. Also discover hidden treasures such as Quatre Gats Café, the Barcelona Athenaeum, Santa Maria del Mar, and Tibidabo Avenue. LITERARY WALKING TOUR: THE CATHEDRAL OF THE SEA 2.5 HOURS

Discover settings from the exciting novel The Cathedral of the Sea during this Gothic tour. Learn about the prosperity of 14th century Barcelona and how a humble district of fishermen used their own money and labour to build Santa Maria del Mar church, considered one of the greatest temples to have ever existed. Also hear about the rags to riches story of Bernat and his son Arnau, two servants who escaped from their abusive feudal lord to arrive in Barcelona during the construction of the church, where they become free citizens for the first time in their  lives. SCHEDULING OF EXCURSIONS

All tours depart from the bus terminal and/or as indicated in the excursion description and participants are asked to be at the pick-up point 30 minutes prior to departure. At the completion of the tour you will be returned to the bus terminal or meeting point unless you opt to leave the tour en route. In this case, it will be your responsibility to secure transportation back to your hotel, at your own expense.
