Florida Central Railroad Florida Northern Railroad Motorcar Excursion April 20, 21 &, 22, 2018 South Eastern Railcar Operators, Inc. is sponsoring a motorcar excursion on the Florida Central and Florida Northern Railroads which are a part of the Pinsley Railroads group who have graciously allowed us to operate. FRIDAY - Florida Central Railroad - Eustis, FL We will have to coordinate our operation with the tourist train. We will set on after the train departs at 09:30. Plan on arriving at the set on location at Orange Avenue in Ferran Park by 08:00 we will complete our paperwork, park our trailers, conduct the safety/job briefing and have the cars ready to set on the track as soon the train leaves. FRA rules require that we remain behind the train and not in front at all times, so careful coordination is required. We plan on running to Tavares, then to Mount Dora and toward Sorrento which is the end of track. Turn point will depend on track condition. We have not been beyond Mt. Dora so this will be new track. Depending on coordination with the train, we will have a lunch stop in either Mt. Dora or Tavares, then follow the train to Eustis for set off. A detailed schedule is not available at this time. SATURDAY - Florida Central Railroad - Winter Garden, FL The storage cars that blocked the track last year East of Winter Garden have been removed. Our set-on location is in Winter Garden on South Main Street just East of the railroad museum in the old depot in the city center. Two nearby public parking lots are available for trailer parking. Set on begins at 06:30. We will Leave Winter Garden at 08:00 and run to Wooten Park in Tavares with a “pit” stop at the railroad headquarters in Plymouth. We will return to Winter Garden in the afternoon. Round trip distance is about 57 miles. After setting off, we can visit the railroad museum before heading for Sunday’s run in Ocala. It’s 65 miles via the Florida Turnpike (entrance only about 2 miles from set-off) and I-75 to Ocala. SUNDAY - Florida Northern Railroad - Ocala, FL We will set on in downtown Ocala, North of the Highway 40 grade crossing in an area where the track runs down the middle of the street for several blocks starting at 08:00. Departure at 09:00. We will run South to Candler (14 miles each way) and return to the set on location for a lunch break. Anyone on a tight schedule can set off at this time. A lot of track work has been done over the last year between Ocala and Candler. In the afternoon, we will run North to the end of the track near Lowell (11 miles each way). It is a very pretty run. There are a number of busy crossings. We will also have to cross the CSX main on the diamond at the Amtrack station in Ocala. Hotels - Many hotels art available in the area. The excursion dates are not in high season, so good rates should be available. Rather than list specific hotels, we recommend that you use an on-line service such as priceline.com or trivago.com to find a hotel with the location, amenities and price that you prefer. Do not set on any track before checking in on any day SPECIAL NOTE: Except for Friday, all cars must be on the track prior to the Safety Meeting. This means you need to arrive at the set-on location at least 30 minutes before the scheduled Safety Meeting. The Pinsley Railroad Company requires safety glasses and safety vests for all participants. NARCOA Insurance is required. NARCOA Operating Rules and Regulations will be in effect. A NARCOA Certificate of Examination is required. Cost is $175.00 per Motorcar. No refunds after March 15, 2018. Make checks payable to: Mackey International.
