Download Options

Download and Install If you are installing from a download, you might be required to select the option, "Download and Install". With this option specified you will download all the necessary files needed to run the products specified under the Products section. Starting in SolidWorks 2011, the Background Downloader can download the files while the user is still working in SolidWorks. When the files are ready, the user will be prompted to install now, delay the installation, or delete the download. **Note: This setting is not great for users with slow connections. **Make a note of the download location; you can copy these files to another PC so that you do not need to download again for each PC.

Download only “Download only” is useful when you want to download one set of files to upgrade multiple seats. This will be a much larger download but can be used to upgrade from any service pack and on any level, i.e. Standard, Professional and Premium.

Install Only Use this option when you have all the files required on a disk or hard drive. Note: If you would like to use the background downloader, check the option to “Use the background downloader for future service packs”. 5

Installation Location By default, SolidWorks will install to a folder called "SolidWorks Corp". It is recommended that you change the installation location to a folder with a meaningful name, i.e. SolidWorks Corp 2016. This is good practice especially if you have multiple versions of SolidWorks installed on the same computer.

Toolbox Options *Always keep a backup of your toolbox.

Create a New Toolbox Specifying this option will create a new toolbox with the default settings. It is recommended that you give the toolbox a meaningful name i.e. SolidWorks 2016 Data. **Note: if you are using an existing Toolbox that you have customised and would like to upgrade this Toolbox for use in 2016, you need to browse to your existing Toolbox, even if it's at a network location. Once you upgrade your Toolbox it will be no good for use in the previous version of SolidWorks.

Use an Existing Toolbox Use this option if you upgrade your existing toolbox to the current version. You will be prompted to point to the old Toolbox for this.
