Wood fuel heating solutions that make financial and environmental sense

Why Wood Heating? Feel the warmth of renewable heating that is good for the environment and your pocket. Why install wood fuel heating?

How does it work? WOOD CHIPS

Burning wood efficiently for heating makes good environmental sense. The trees grown to replace sustainably sourced fuel will absorb the CO2 created during the burning process. Making the most of this natural cycle will hugely reduce the carbon impact of your heating system.

FUEL STORE

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government funded initiative that will pay you for the heat that your system generates. This makes the financial investment viable, showing realistic payback periods and ongoing long term income.

FUEL STORE

The cost of fossil fuels and electricity generated from them will continue to rise. Sourcing local, sustainable wood fuel will help protect you from these risks and support local enterprise at the same time. Dulas provide quality wood fuel heating systems that will give you long term fuel savings.

Eco Know-How Achieving a reliable and efficient system requires experience and skill. Dulas has both. Why Dulas? The basic principles of biomass heating are simple but achieving a reliable and efficient system requires experience and skill. As Wales' leading renewable energy company we can guide you through the whole process. Our years of experience in the industry means we deliver successful projects, giving you environmental and financial dividends in the long term. Working under the ISO 9001 quality standard and MCS approval, our attention to detail ensures that you get convenient and reliable renewable heating. We supply high quality, efficient and reliable Fröling and KWB boilers, manufacturers that we trust and have worked with for years.

“The system runs the heating and hot water requirements for all twelve lodges, the swimming pool and leisure complex and two listed barn conversions and will vastly reduce our running costs. The wood chip feed system is simple and reliable and the service was very comprehensive. ” Andrew Beavan, Owner of Black Hall Lodges.

Our Customers We have worked with a wide range of customers so our engineers will understand your project's specific needs Biomass for hot water and heating

Nant yr Arian Forest Centre - The Forestry Commission - Mid Wales Installation: Fröling 35kW woodchip boiler linked to a 16m3 fuel store that supplies the fuel into the boiler via an auger. “The automatic ignition boiler starts on demand at times of heavy load, such as when a group of mountain bikers need to shower!” Caredig Morgan, Centre Manager.

Self-contained biomass boiler system built off-site by Dulas- South Pilton GreenNational Trust Installation: 38kW Fröling P4 pellet boiler with all workings in a custom built container which runs a district heating system providing heating for all farm buildings. “The Fröling boiler and the containerised system meets our exacting requirements perfectly. Dulas have been easy to work with and have given us exactly what we wanted.” Keith Jones, Chief Environmental Advisor.

Haverfordwest Leisure Centre - Pembrokeshire County Council ESCo (Energy Supply Contract) Installation: 2 KWB Powerfire boilers with a total capacity of 300kW to provide base-load heating. Fuel Delivery: Pellet fuel is delivered by blower truck into the fuel store. The system is fully automated and monitored remotely from our offices. “Having an ESCo with Dulas means they bill us for the heat we use and take care of all operation and maintenance issues. It makes biomass heating far simpler for us. The heating installation is running very well and the billing process is simple, with monthly bills based on heat meter readings.” Steve Keating, Pembrokeshire County Council.

Wood Fuel Works With such a variety of wood fuel systems out there, how do you know which is right for you? The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

What to consider?

The RHI is a government funded incentive to encourage the adoption of low carbon heating solutions. Heating contributes 50% of the UK’s carbon emissions so the UK government is committed to supporting wood fuel heating in the long term.

The size and duration of your heat load and the space available for equipment and fuel storage are key to the design of a wood fuel heating system.

The incentive will pay owners of biomass heating systems an income based on the heat produced by their boiler. This will greatly reduce the time it takes for a system to pay back and provide a guaranteed income for 20 years from the date your system is commissioned.

Fuel type Pellets are ideally suited to highly automated systems particularly in urban areas. The pellets are made from processed sawdust waste and can easily be supplied in bags or via trucks that ‘blow’ the fuel into the site storage system. Chips are produced from forestry timber, sawmill byproducts or waste wood. When quality and moisture content is carefully controlled, this can be a very costeffective fuel particularly if the chip is produced on site. Log boilers suit smaller loads (up to 70kW), need a good supply of local, seasoned wood and regular, daily loading. These may suit a country property managing its own woodland with the time and space to prepare, store and load logs. Your fuel type will ultimately depend upon your local supply situation, the size of your system and how automated you require your system to be.

Fuel supply The environmental benefits of wood fuel heating systems are maximised when fuel is sourced locally. After processing, woodchip and pellet fuel is delivered, loaded into your fuel bunker and then fed into the boiler by an automated system. Processing your own wood may be very cost-effective. We can also recommend local suppliers. If you choose our Energy Supply Contract (ESCo) then we will manage your fuel supply and boiler servicing needs.

Space Wood fuel heating systems need to be housed in a boiler room with connection to an appropriately sized fuel store that can be accessed by a fuel delivery vehicle. Our engineers will be able to advise whether your property has the potential space to install a system.

We can answer your questions If you would like to escape from rising fossil fuel prices and think you have a suitable property for wood fuel heating, please do get in touch. We can provide initial advice, feasibility studies, system specification, installation financing options and operation and maintenance services.
