Gouda With over 300 monuments and a rich history of canals and waterways, Gouda’s historic city centre offers a rich cultural experience. The beautiful 15th century Gothic town hall, with its red and white shutters, is both the oldest and one of the few remaining in the Netherlands and stands in the centre of the picturesque Gouda Market Square – a key stop in any visit to the city. Standing at an aweinspiring 123-metres tall and with 72 unique stained-glass windows, the Sint-Janskerk church is the tallest in the Netherlands and is another breath taking monument to be found in the city centre.

11:00 Arrive at Gouda. Your day will commence with a guided tour of the Punselie Cookie Company where you will be welcomed with coffee or tea and a traditional Dutch ‘stroopwafeltje’ (treacle waffle). Punselie Cookie Company Since January 2013 the Punselie Cookie Company, the manufacturers of the well-known Gouda brittle cookies with caramel filling, opened their doors for visitors to explore their factory. The tour starts at the visitor centre where the guests can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a Punselie Cookie. The tour continues with a short presentation about the Punselie Company followed by a tour of the actual factory.

12:15 Lunch at Restaurant De Zalm Restaurant De Zalm Brasserie De Zalm is one of Gouda’s most beautiful spots for lunch, dinner or drinks. It is modelled after the famous brasseries in Paris and was once the oldest hotel in Holland. De Zalm is situated right next to the Goudse Waag, recognisable by the large golden salmon in front of its facade.

14:30 Tour of the Cheese and Crafts Museum Cheese and Crafts Museum Built by a famous architect Pieter Post, the Goudse Waag (Gouda Cheese Weighing House) is one of the three most important historic buildings in Gouda which has played an important role in the cheese trade for centuries. Since 1688, commodities were weighed here to determine the tax due on them. Since 1850 it was only the famous Gouda cheese that continued to be weighed. In 1956 the magnificent building underwent extensive restoration and now houses the Cheese and Crafts Museum where you can learn everything about the history of Gouda cheese and how it is made. The museum is also filled with information on Gouda crafts. In the museum shop you will find everything from special cheeses to the best cheese slicers and great souvenirs.

Cheese and wine tasting The cheese and wine tasting at Van de Velde & Halewijn, located in the city centre of Gouda, offers a truly authentic experience of an original Dutch wine merchant (wijnkoperij). 11:00 Arrival at The Hague Museum Mauritshuis Museum Mauritshuis, situated in the Hague, features a compact yet world-renowned collection and is home to the best Dutch paintings from the Golden Age (17th Century). Having been on a world tour for two years, Vermeer’s famous Girl with a Pearl Earring returned to the Mauritshuis for the reopening in 2014 and is just one of the many extraordinary works to be found. Masterpieces such as Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this 17th Century monument. More than two hundred of the greatest paintings from Dutch and Flemish masters are on display in the historic interior with silken wall coverings, sparkling chandeliers and monumental painted ceilings.

Restaurant Calla's is owned by Marcel van der Kleijn, who received a Michelin star in 2002.
