Hard and Soft Meters • Hard Meters • Separate device located in the slot machine • Used to record the occurrence of an event • Electromechanical • Mechanical counter • Incremented electrically

• In Nevada all slot machines have internal meters for: • • • • •

Coin-In • Paid Jackpots Bill-In • Attendant Paid Canceled Credits Coin-Out • Physical Coin In Coin Drop • Physical Coin Out Plus 15 others such as Bill-In that may be waived by the chairman of the Gaming Control Board Attendant

Hard and Soft Meters • Hard Meters • The Use of Hard meters is based upon the requirement: • That Gaming devices meters retain data even after power outrages and system failures

• Soft Meters • Electronic meters • Used to record the occurrence of an event • Usually implemented in software in the game • Also communicated to the external management system
