The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) does not assume responsibility for the accuracy of any description. JANM and the donor cannot extend the expiration date of any service. Read all auction package descriptions carefully as they list specific restrictions. Please be aware. If you would like to extend your stay, you must coordinate with the donor directly. Auction Coordinators and JANM staff do not make travel arrangements. All items are sold “as is”, are subject to availability, and have no cash redemption value. JANM is grateful to our donors, but is unable to endorse any product or service. The stated value of auction goods and services are good‐faith estimates only and are not warranted for tax purposes. Please contact your tax advisor regarding the tax deductibility of purchases and contributions. Any amount over the stated market value of an item may be tax deductible. There are no exchanges, transfers, or refunds from JANM or the donor. How to Participate in the Silent Auction The silent auction will begin promptly at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Guests are assigned a Bid Number to use during the silent auction. Your Bid Number will be given to you at the Registration Table upon check in. A Bid Sheet is displayed with each auction package and includes the package title, value, minimum opening bid amount, and bid increment. You may bid on as many items as you wish. To bid on a package, simply write your Bid Number, Name and Bid Amount on the appropriate Bid Sheet. Each Bid Sheet lists a Bid Increment, which is the minimum value by which the existing bid must be increased in order to constitute a higher value bid. All bids must be in even dollar amounts. Bids below opening minimum bids will be increased appropriately.
The auction will begin closing at approximately 6:45 p.m. Serious bidders should stand next to auction bid sheets until an Auction Coordinator picks up the bid sheet. Not all bid sheets are picked up at the EXACT closing time. An Auction Official will certify the closing bids, and the highest valid bid will be declared the winner.
In the event of a contested item, the last two individuals appearing on the bid sheet will participate in a sealed “bid off.” This “bid off” will be in written form and be administered by an Auction Official.
Winners will be notified at their tables throughout the evening.
Payment & Pick Up Auction Coordinators will bring invoices to the winning bidders at their tables. State and local retail sales tax will be included in the final bid amount. Any other gratuity, service fees, applicable taxes, licensing fees or other consumer‐related charges on any item are the sole responsibility of the winning bidder. Shipping and handling charges may apply. All items must be paid for and picked up by the end of the evening, or arrangements for pick up at JANM. Payments may be made with cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. Items and certificates purchased at this auction were donated specifically to support educational programs at JANM and are intended for use by the purchaser. They cannot be resold and are not transferable.

4002 Jersey Signed by Jerry West Jerry Alan West (born May 28, 1938) is a retired American basketball player who played his entire professional career for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). His nicknames include “Mr. Clutch”, for his ability to make a big play in a clutch situation, such as his famous buzzer‐beating 60‐foot shot that tied Game 3 of the 1970 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks; “The Logo”, in reference to his silhouette being incorporated into the NBA logo; “Mr. Outside”, in reference to his perimeter play with the Los Angeles Lakers. West’s NBA career was highly successful. Playing the guard position as a professional, he was voted 12 times into the All‐NBA First and Second Teams, was elected into the NBA All‐Star Team 14 times, and was chosen as the All‐Star MVP in 1972, the same year that he won the only title of his career. West holds the NBA record for the highest points per game average in a playoff series with 46.3. West was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and voted as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996. After his playing career, West was head coach of the Lakers for three years, leading Los Angeles into the playoffs each year and earning a Western Conference Finals berth once.

5003 Mike Shinoda Framed Print Michael Kenji “Mike” Shinoda LHD (born February 11, 1977) is an American musician, record producer, and artist. He co‐founded Linkin Park in 1996 and is the band’s rhythm guitarist, songwriter, keyboardist, and co‐vocalist. Shinoda later created a hip hop‐driven side project, Fort Minor, in 2003. He served as a producer for tracks and albums by Lupe Fiasco, Styles of Beyond, and The X‐Ecutioners. Shinoda is also the co‐founder of Machine Shop Recordings, a California‐based record label. Outside of music, Shinoda is an artist and graphic designer. He has painted several pieces of artwork, some of which have been featured in the Japanese American National Museum.

His expressionism mystifies images of neglected architecture, commerce, and waste with a modern aesthetic that frees the content from its original utility to reveal extraordinary beauty and emotion. Chan’s approach is to use photographs that “steal” the real texture and energy of the city, particularly neglected neighborhoods. Chan creates free compositions using these “neglected city images,” both as expanses and as enlarged elements. Using his digital canvas, Chan treats, distorts and edits the images to add or subtract details, colors, and aspects, including facets of gestural abstraction. Chan refers to this process as mystification of the reality because it creates an image that overtakes and goes beyond reality itself. His work employs digital graphics technology printed on silver metallic photographic paper. Chan’s diverse body of work brings new definition to the relationship of technology and mass media imagery to traditional studio methods and formats. His work exemplifies the importance of how individual artistic sensibility and style can evolve to produce new definitions of spontaneous creativity.

White/Silver metallic threading/lavender ombre clutch with rhinestone clasp. Welcome to the world of the SAKATA Vintage “OBI” Clutches. What does “OBI” mean? “OBI” is the sash or wide belt which is wrapped and worn around the waist of a kimono without the use of buckles. Obi’s were first worn in the 16th century by both men and women and were an important feature of kimono attire. An Obi is made of silk, cotton or brocade and the color and print or design was very significant to the wearer. There are four types of Obi: Maru Obi, Fukuro Obi, Nagoya Obi, and the Hanababa Obi. The MARU Obi tends to be made of the finest brocade and is the most formal and elegant, mainly worn by brides, geishas or modern day “maiko” (dancing lady). The obi has a pattern or design on both sides and is the most expensive. The FUKURO Obi is similar to the Maru Obi, but has only a pattern or design on one side. It is used formally or informally and the patterned side is what is visible. The NAGOYA Obi is asymmetrical in its length shape, as it is folded and stitched. It is mostly worn by young or unmarried women wearing semi‐formal kimono. The Hanababa “half width” Obi is half the width of an obi and is the most popular. It is the most easy to tie and make bows from and is worn with casual kimono or yukata. The Obi that is used in making SAKATA Obi clutches are the Maru Obi and the Fukuro Obi. Each and every piece is carefully selected before purchasing. There is very little to no imperfections in the Obi clutches that are made, as each obi is cut by hand by the owner and designer herself, Cin Ishii.
