Welcome to the A1 Shooting Ground. Conveniently located on 40 acres of outstanding English countryside and woodland inside the M25, just North of London, the A1 Shooting Ground is the perfect venue for practice, corporate events and tuition to suit any skill level for parties large and small. We are a family run shooting club with a dedicated team of professional instructors and friendly staff and provide top quality facilities in English Sporting, Olympic Trap and Helice (ZZ). For shotgun license holders looking for a great day out with family and friends, A1 Shooting Ground’s wide range of targets are of the highest standard and accommodate for any level of experience from beginners to the most accomplished of shooters. And for those with a more competitive edge, A1 also holds CPSA registered monthly competitions with cash prizes.

our history

Established in 1927, the A1 shooting Ground is rich in heritage and experience in teaching and providing excellent clay pigeon shooting. The 40 acres inside the M25, just north of London, where the A1 shooting Ground is situated was first bought and used by Boss Guns. Boss used the land to test its guns to make sure they were of the highest quality. In 1994 Claudio and Teresa Capaldo, took over the club and made it into what it is today. A new clubhouse was built, the English Sporting was expanded, Olympic Trap became available to shoot and more recently a Helice layout was put in place. Now the A1 Shooting Ground can boast in having the only automatic Helice layout in the country. The business continues to grow and strive to offer improved facilities for its customers. Plans are now in place to build a bigger and better clubhouse and position the club in becoming one of the greatest target shooting clubs in England.

COACHING & LESSONS

Whether you have never held a shotgun before or just need someone to improve your technique, the A1 shooting Ground offers a wide range of shooting lesson packages to suit any skill level for parties large and small. Visitors do not need to worry about bringing anything as everything you need will be provided. You are

supplied with a gun (unless you already own one), cartridges, clays, shoulder, ear and eye protection and instruction. Professional and experienced instructors will demonstrate how to use a shotgun safely and accurately and will tailor each lesson to match a person’s ability so that they find the event rewarding and challenging. You will also be given equipment advice, an eye dominance test and a basic gun fit and as your experience and technique grows and improves you will progress to more challenging clays. So, what are you waiting for, if you want to try target shooting or want to become a better shooter, book a lesson now and come down. Everyone is welcome. THE CLUBHOUSE

The A1 Shooting Ground is not just a place to experience fantastic target shooting. It is also a place to spend time with old acquaintances, meet new friends and relax. In our clubhouse, the Café offers a wide selection of food, from full English breakfasts to prawn sandwiches and also boasts the best authentic Italian coffee inside the M25. A dining area, lounge, and outdoor covered seating are also provided and those with laptops can take advantage of free wireless internet connection. And of course men and women’s toilet facilities come as standard. At reception, there is also a wide selection of shooting products on sale including gun cleaning equipment, eye and ear protection and shotgun and cartridge carriers.

SHOOTING FACILITIES The A1 Shooting Ground provides top quality facilities in English Sporting, Olympic Trap and Helice (ZZ).

English Sporting The English Sporting discipline has the sport’s biggest following in Britain. While other disciplines use only standard targets, in Sporting, targets are in all shapes and sizes and are thrown in many trajectories, at differing angles and speeds. The A1 Shooting Ground has a twelve stand English Sporting layout which provides an exciting variety of sporting targets with a good balance of difficulty for both the experienced and novice shooter.

Helice (ZZ) What is Helice I hear you ask? Helice is an exciting discipline of artificial target shooting and despite being relatively new in Britain, it is rapidly becoming increasingly popular thanks to its addictive and challenging targets. A Helice (French for helicopter) is a plastic propeller holding a detachable centre piece. This is rotated at a high speed and then released randomly in any direction from one of five traps in front of the shooter. The aim for the shooter is hit the detachable centre piece out of its propeller casing.To make things more challenging, the centre piece must fall inside the designated perimeter. Helice is also called ZZ for the way the target’s flight pattern can unpredictably zigzag in front of the shooter. It was designed to simulate as closely as possible the old sport of live pigeon shooting made illegal in

Britain over 70 years ago. Helice is competitive and great fun to shoot. The A1 Shooting Ground is proud to have the only automatic Helice layout in the country and is certain once you try this exciting sport, you will be hooked.

Olympic Trap Olympic Trap is an International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) shooting event. It was introduced to the Olympic program in 1900, with the current version having been introduced in 1950. A round is made up of 25 going away standard targets which come out from 15 fixed angled machines that are installed underground. Our Olympic Trap layout is set up to be exactly what you would to find at, yes you’ve guessed it, the Olympics. Probably one of the most difficult and competitive disciplines of shooting there is, with its fast targets at wide angles, it is not for the feint hearted. However if you’re feeling brave or want to see what the Olympians try to hit, the A1 shooting Ground is the place to come. With a little practice you could be joining the gold medal winner’s at Britain 2012.
