Defense Intelligence Agency’s Missile and Space Intelligence Center In October, 2007, the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) was honored by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) with the 2007 Geospatial Intelligence Achievement Award (Government Division). The USGIF Awards Program recognizes those who continue to build upon the intelligence tradition, validating and reinforcing the value the geospatial intelligence field delivers to U.S. national security. The MSIC team has contributed greatly to the understanding of adversary military capabilities by developing and deploying a GEOINT-enabled Foreign Missile Test Range Analysis architecture. Intergraph developed the system as part of a team led by COLSA Corporation, and saves MSIC two to three hours per analyst of data search time daily. The new architecture greatly enhances the availability and usability of GEOINT data and results in more all-source analysts leveraging the full potential of GEOINT data.

Ordnance Survey, Great Britain Ordnance Survey maps are internationally renowned and its data is essential to the country’s government, business, and individuals. The agency’s national geographic database describes more than 440 million individual features – such as every house, road, and field. Each year more than a million changes to the British landscape need to be measured and assimilated into this database. This equates to 5,000 changes every day and it requires efficient planning and control. The Intergraph system will provide enterprisewide capabilities for the management, planning, coordination, and control of data capture and production activities. Ordnance Survey’s large-scale data holdings will be managed in a centralized geospatial database, and a standards-based interface will integrate field and officebased editing tools as well as those from external contractors. The system will ensure consistency between Ordnance Survey products and enable it to develop new ones. © Crown copyright and database rights. All rights reserved. License number 100015568

Bouches Du Rhône Fire Brigade, France Located in Provence in the south of France, Bouches du Rhône is a region of 5,100 square kilometers. Its topography includes mountains, plains, and flat country, as well as the busy urban area of Marseilles. The Bouches du Rhône Fire Brigade receives 800,000 emergency calls a year and responds to 120,000 incidents, some of which involve more than 200 vehicles. To help manage its large volume of calls, the Brigade chose Intergraph’s CAD application, which incorporates various telephony interfaces, including automatic location identification and messaging using mobile phones. The vector map for its entire street network, plus main building footprints and aerial photos of the region, are also fully integrated into the system. The Bouches du Rhône Fire Brigade has been using the Intergraph solution since 1998. “The centralization of the 112 and 18 emergency call numbers and the centralized management of vehicles and firefighters could not have been carried out without this reliable and powerful system,” says Lieutenant-Colonel Marc Vitalbo, head of the Brigade’s IT department. “The solution has proved its efficiency not only in daily operations, but also during crisis situations – forest fires, floods, and other major incidents.”

Progress Energy Progress Energy, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a Fortune 250 energy company with more than 21,000 megawatts of generation capacity and nine billion dollars in annual revenues. The company includes two major utilities that serve more than 3.1 million customers in the Carolinas and Florida. Following the 2004 hurricane season that battered Florida, Progress Energy was challenged with a way to better assess outages during and after major storms. The four major hurricanes that hit Florida cost Progress Energy more than $360 million. With more than 70 percent of Progress Energy’s total restoration cost being related to labor, the sooner people start working means big savings. Progress knows the fastest way to save money is by putting people to work where they are needed. With help from Intergraph’s outage management solutions, Progress tested pinging meters with helicopter flyovers. Using the helicopter in test runs, the company was able to read more than 100,000 meters in one hour – determining what meters were working and where outages were located.
