• • • • • • • •

"General enhancements" on page 7 "Config Tool enhancements" on page 8 "Security Desk enhancements" on page 9 "Synergis access control enhancements" on page 10 "Omnicast video surveillance enhancements" on page 11 "AutoVu LPR enhancements" on page 15 "Plugin enhancements" on page 18 "New supported video units in Security Center 5.2 GA" on page 18

General enhancements • Remote Security Desk. You can remotely monitor and control other Security Desks that are part of your system, by settings up a virtual video wall, using the Remote task. For example, you can add Security Desks from multiple sites onto your virtual video wall, and control them using the Monitoring and Alarm monitoring tasks. If you have physical video wall set up on your site, you can control all the monitors on that wall from your local Security Desk. For more information, see “Monitoring remote Security Desks” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Threat levels. If a critical event happens while you are monitoring your system (for example, a fire or shooting), you can change the state of the entire Security Center system, or specific areas, using threat levels. The effects of activating a threat level are configured in Config Tool. For more information see, “Managing threat levels” in the Security Center Administrator Guide, and “Set threat levels” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Alarm monitoring enhancements. You can now configure alarms to trigger from a source condition (for example, door held open too long). When an alarm is triggered that has a source condition, you can investigate the alarm while source condition has not been cleared (door is still open). This lets other users on the system know that someone has seen the alarm, even though the source condition is still active. If you are an administrator, you can also force all active alarms to be acknowledged. For more information, see “Managing alarms” in the Security Center Administrator Guide, and “Responding to alarms” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Home page enhancements. The Config Tool and Security Desk Home page has been updated to improve the user experience. Private and public tasks now have their own tabs, you can drag tasks into your favorites list, favorites are no longer duplicated in the recent

For a tour of the new and improved interface, see “Config Tool interface tour” in the Security Center Administrator Guide, and “Security Desk interface tour” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Hardware inventory report. The Access control unit configuration report was renamed to the Hardware inventory report, where you can view the configuration of access control, video, intrusion detection, and LPR units in your system. Previously, you could only view the configuration of access control units. For more information about this task, see “Hardware inventory” in the Security Center Administrator Guide or Security Desk User Guide.

• Health monitoring and system messages. System messages, such as health issues, warnings, and messages, and health monitoring events are all shown in the Notifications dialog box. You can review those events and messages, as well as diagnose trouble entities. You open the Notifications dialog box from the notification tray. For more information, see “Viewing system messages” in the Security Center Administrator Guide or Security Desk User Guide.

• Notification tray enhancements. You can now show or hide all the icons in the notification tray from the Options dialog box.

• Tile plugin entity. The map entity was replaced by the tile plugin entity. The tile plugin entity represents either a web site or a custom .dll or .xml file, that can be displayed in a Security Desk tile. For more information about the tile plugin entity, see “Tile plugin” in the Security Center Administrator Guide.

• SMA number can be copied. Your SMA number can be copied from the Config Tool or Security Desk About page, by highlighting the number, and right-clicking on it.

Also, you can now select multiple cardholders in the cardholder list, and activate or deactivate their status. To see the new task layout, see “Cardholder management” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Visitor management enhancements. The Visitor management task has been given a new look and feel. Also, when you check-out a visitor, their information is saved in the database. This way, if the visitor returns you can simply re-activate the visitor instead of entering all their information in again. For more information about this task, see “Visitor management” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Credential management task. The Credential enrollment task was renamed to the Credential management task, where you can enroll credentials, create and assign credentials, and respond to credential card printing requests. Previously, you could only enroll multiple credentials. For more information, see “Credential management” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Requesting credential cards. If you do not have a printer on site or close by, you can request a credential card to be printed. Administrators can then accept or deny the request, and print the card. A report of all the printed cards can be created at a later time, using the Credential request history task. For information about requesting cards or responding to requests, see “Request a credential card” and “Respond to a card request” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• New task: Credential request history. In the Credential request history task, you can see which users requested, cancelled, and printed credentials. For more information about this task, see “Credential request history” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Badge template enhancements. For cardholder pictures that were taken in front of a chroma key screen (usually green or blue), you can make the background of the picture transparent. This enables you to create badge templates with custom backgrounds and images on them. For more information about editing cardholder pictures, see “Assign a cardholder picture” in the Security Desk User Guide. For information about creating badge templates, see “Designing badge templates” in the Security Center Administrator Guide.

• External access control reader support. External access control reader devices (credential readers, scanners, and so on) are now supported in Security Center. You can enable the devices to use from the Options dialog box. Fore more information, see “External device options” in the Security Center Administrator Guide or Security Desk User Guide.

• Access control event types updated.

Access denied events now have additional reasons attached to them to explain why access was denied (for example, Access denied: Invalid PIN or Access denied: No access rule assigned). New event: Entry detected. Event is generated when a cardholder was granted access, and their entry was detected.

New event: No entry detected. Event is generated when a cardholder was granted access, but no entry was detected. V1000 unit replacement tool. You can replace an HID VertX V1000 unit with an SMC unit, and copy the V1000 configuration settings to the new unit, using the V1000 - SMC tool. For more information, see “Replacing HID VertX V1000 units with SMC units” in the Security Center Administrator Guide. 

• Synergis Master Controller support. Synergis Master Controller (SMC) is Genetec’s access control unit that supports a variety of third party interface modules over IP, USB, and RS485. SMC is seamlessly integrated to Security Center, and is capable of making the access control decisions independently of the Access Manager. SMC and accessories can be housed inside an enclosure that make up the Synergis access control system. For more information about the SMC, see the Genetec web site: http://www.genetec.com.

Omnicast video surveillance enhancements • Camera blocking. If something critical occurs in your system and some users should not be allowed to view that camera or segment of video, you can block them from having access to the video stream for a specific amount of time, or indefinitely. Blocking is based on user security levels, which are set in Config Tool. For more information, see “Managing software security” in the Security Center Administrator Guide, and “Block/unblock cameras” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Analog decoder support. Analog decoders are now supported in Security Center, and are added as analog monitor entities. You can view live video on an analog monitor, by displaying supported cameras in the canvas. You can also receive alarms on the physical analog monitor if the analog monitor entity is configured as a recipient of the alarm, and view the status of analog monitor entities in the System status task. For more information about configuring analog monitors, see “Configuring analog monitors” in the Security Center Administrator Guide. For information about using analog monitors, see “Viewing video in an analog monitor” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Exporting video enhancements. 

Portable Archive Player exported with video. When you export G64 video files in Security Desk, you now have the option to export the Portable Archive player with the video sequence. The exported files can be played using the Portable Archive Player, without having Security Desk installed. This is helpful if you need to give the exported video files to a third party that does not have Security Center software. For more information about exporting video, see “Exporting video” in the Security Desk User Guide.

Export icon in notification tray. When you are exporting video, you can now close the Export dialog box and perform other tasks in Security Desk. There is a new Export icon in the notification tray, that indicates video is being exported. You can double-click the icon to open the Export dialog box again. For more information, see “Exporting video” in the Security Desk User Guide. Keyboard camera switching. You can display cameras locally, or on a remote Security Desk workstation, using keyboard shortcuts. Using your keyboard, you select which monitor and canvas tile you want to display the camera in, and then select the camera. This is helpful for controlling monitors on a video wall, when there is no mouse available. This feature is similar to using a CCTV keyboard. For more information, see “Displaying cameras using your keyboard” in the Security Desk User Guide. 

• Video trickling enhancements. If you have a larger system, you can now organize the cameras that are set to use trickling into groups. The camera groups are helpful to logically group your cameras. You can also specify how many cameras can trickle at the same time per camera group, which is helpful for systems that have a limited network. For more information about trickling, see “Trickling” in the Security Center Administrator Guide.

• PTZ enhancements. When a PTZ motor becomes idle, you can now configure the PTZ to move to a preset position, start a PTZ pattern, or remain idle until a user starts controlling it again. For more information about the Idle command option, see “Idle command” in the Security Center Administrator Guide.

• Synchronizing video. There is an advanced video synchronization option now available in Security Desk. When this option is enabled and you synchronize the video in the canvas, the date and time of the video streams are synchronized. However, if one of the video streams starts buffering, there will be a slight drift in the synchronization. When this option is disabled, if one of the video streams starts to buffer, all the streams pause until the other stream is ready. For more information, see “Configuring advanced video settings” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Camera sequence synchronization. If you add additional camera sequences to the canvas, the camera rotation is synchronized. The sequences switch to the next camera, based on the dwell time of the first camera sequence that was displayed in the canvas. For more information about viewing camera sequences in Security Desk, see “Viewing a camera sequence” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Joystick dead zone. You can now set a dead zone value for joysticks from the Options dialog box. The Joystick dead zone slider sets the threshold for registered movement in relation to the home position, or idle zone. For more information, see “Peripheral options” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• High resolution whole using digital zoom. If the video stream for a camera is set to Automatic mode, when you use digital zoom on that camera in the canvas, the video stream switches to high resolution. gtap.genetec.com | Security Center Release Notes 5.2 SR2 EN.500.001-V5.2.C2(4) | Last updated: June 18, 2013

AutoVu LPR enhancements • Sharp Plate Reader Server decoupled. For ease of deployment, the Sharp Plate Reader Server has been decoupled from Security Center, and is renamed to Plate Reader. Plate Reader is now at versions 9.0 and 10.0, and can connect to Security Center and Patroller versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2. 

Plate Reader 9.0. Use for Sharp units with 512 MB or RAM (Sharp 1.5 models and some Sharp 2.0 models). Plate Reader 10.0. Use for all other Sharp models.

You can use newer Sharp units with any previous version of Security Center or Patroller by simply selecting the Security Center version in the Sharp Portal. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Improved LPR-based access control. The following new features improve AutoVu as an access control solution, where Sharps are installed at site entry points to grant or deny access: 

Assign hotlists to specific Sharps. Hotlists are no longer tied to their parent LPR Managers. You can now associate hotlists to specific Sharp units. This allows you to configure an access control scenario using multiple Sharps, each being responsible for different entry points.

Hotlist “No match” events. You can now use hotlists as “whitelists” to store users that should be granted certain privileges. If a user is not on the list, and you want Security Center to trigger an action, you can use the “no match” event. This allows the hotlist to behave like a permit list in parking enforcement. By assigning hotlists to specific Sharps, and then configuring event-to-actions based on both “match” and “no match” events, you can deploy access control solutions that fit almost any real-world scenario. For more information, contact your Genetec representative. 

• View which Sharp unit generated a hit. You can view hotlist hits (“License plate matched” event) by monitoring the Sharp unit rather than the hotlist. If you have more than one fixed Sharp unit on your system, you can now see which one generated a hit. This makes it easier gtap.genetec.com | Security Center Release Notes 5.2 SR2 EN.500.001-V5.2.C2(4) | Last updated: June 18, 2013

15

What’s new in Security Center 5.2 GA

to configure event-to-actions that trigger when a specific Sharp unit generates a hit. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Assign hotlists and permit lists to specific Patroller entities. You can now assign a hotlist or permit list to individual Patrollers on your system. Previously, hotlists and permit lists were tied to their parent LPR Manager roles. For example, you have a Security Center system with multiple LPR Manager roles, and you have one particular Patroller vehicle responsible for a specific hotlist. By assigning the hotlist to the Patroller entity rather than to one of the LPR Managers, you can later easily move the Patroller entity to any LPR Manager on your system and the hotlist will follow. You won't need to re-create the same hotlist on the new LPR Manager. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Patroller MLPI: Hotlist support. Patroller MLPI now supports using hotlists to raise hits when reading license plates that are on lists of wanted vehicles. All standard hotlist features are supported, such as periodic transfer, covert and wildcard hotlists, New wanted management, SimpleMatcher, and so on. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Patroller alerts you if MLPI row capacity is exceeded. You can now specify a “Space count” value to indicate how many spaces are available in a row. This value is set in the Parking facility rule, and Patroller will trigger an alarm (sound or warning message) if the reads collected during your sweep of a row exceed the number of spaces specified in the “Space count” for that row. This reminds the Patroller operator to select a new row before continuing. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Delete, or edit MLPI plate reads in Patroller. In Patroller, you can now delete or edit reads that have been collected during your sweep, allowing you to filter out misreads before creating your inventory. In order to do this, the “Enable read deletion” and “Enable read modification” options must be enabled in Patroller Config Tool. For more information, see the Patroller MLPI User Guide.

• Create a partial MLPI inventory in Security Desk. You can now choose to create a partial inventory of a parking facility in Security Desk. A partial inventory is used to do a spot check of the inventory at a specific time, and is not reconciled with the previous inventory. This feature is useful when the Patroller is unable to perform a complete sweep of a parking facility. For example, if there is a heavy snowfall and the operator can only sweep half the parking lot because the other half has not been plowed, the operator can create a partial inventory, skip reconciliation, and still record the reads. Previously, the reads would be reconciled, and cars parked in the skipped section of the lot were considered as having left. For more information, see “Inventory management” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• Matched plate display. The Hotlist Hits panel in Patroller now displays whether the captured plate is an exact or approximate match to the plate on the hotlist that generated the hit. This allows you to verify exact matching against the hotlist. For example, the “matched plate” may contain OCR equivalent characters, or a different number of characters than the actual LPR image. For more information, see the Patroller User Guides.

• Improved LPR tiles in Security Desk. The LPR tiles in Security Desk have been redesigned to display more information at a glance, with additional information on a single click. You can see the Context image of the vehicle, LPR image, Patroller or Sharp unit, Plate read, and gtap.genetec.com | Security Center Release Notes 5.2 SR2 EN.500.001-V5.2.C2(4) | Last updated: June 18, 2013

16

What’s new in Security Center 5.2 GA

Event timestamp, directly in the tile. Additional information such as the action taken (accepted or rejected hit), Accept or Reject reason, or the Plate state is displayed in the information pop-up window with a single click. For more information, see “Monitoring LPR events” in the Security Desk User Guide.

• View plate read metadata in Security Desk. You can view and query for the plate read metadata fields “Relative Motion” and “Vehicle Type” in Security Desk reports. This feature works for Patrollers and Fixed Sharp cameras. Relative Motion tells you whether the vehicle is approaching the Sharp or moving away, and Vehicle Type detects what type of vehicle the plate belongs to (private, military, and so on). Vehicle Type is currently supported for Saudi Arabia contexts only. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• SharpX available with 590nm and 740nm illumination. The SharpX is now available with 590nm and 740nm illumination in XGA and VGA for 12 mm and 16 mm lenses.

• Improved email notification for hotlist hits. Security Center now sends out a more detailed email when a hotlist hit occurs, and you can quickly add or remove information from the email directly from Security Center Config Tool. You also have more options for customizing the email. For example, you can send the email as HTML or plain text, add your own text in the subject line or message body, add formatting (bold, italics, different fonts, color, and so on), restore the default email message at any time, and more. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Create mandatory hotlist and permit list attributes. When adding a new attribute to a hotlist or permit list, you can make the attribute mandatory. This means that you cannot leave that attribute’s column blank when you add a new entry to the list using the Hotlist and permit editor. For example, if you add the attribute “Color” to a hotlist and make it mandatory, the Hotlist and permit editor won’t let you add a new plate to the hotlist without entering text in its “color” field. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Associate user custom fields with reads and hits. You can add user custom fields to LPR annotation fields in order to associate a user’s metadata with individual reads and hits. This allows you to query and filter for the user custom fields in Security Desk “Reads” and “Hits” reports. For example, if your users are police officers, you can add their ID numbers as a custom field called “Badge” in their user profile. Then, you add the custom field “Badge” as an annotation field for reads and hits. By doing this, every read and hit will have the officer’s badge number attached to it. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Sharp enhancements. The new Sharp firmware features the following enhancements: 

DHCP automatic renewal. Resolves IP address conflicts for daisy-chained LPR Processing Units. Automatic log file transfer. Sharp log files are automatically transferred to a USB key when you connect the key to the LPR Processing Unit. Better health monitoring. Health monitoring available from the Sharp Portal.

• AutoVu Simplehost supports New wanted management. The AutoVu Simplehost application supports New wanted hotlist entries, allowing you to search for plates that are not on any of the loaded hotlists.

17

What’s new in Security Center 5.2 GA

• Plate filtering. Security Center verifies permit lists for non-alphanumeric characters, and filters them out before sending the list to Patroller. You can choose to remove the entire plate and related information from the list, or to only remove the invalid characters from the plate text string (for example, the plate “ABC!#3” would be sent to Patroller as ABC3). For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• Permit lists support delta transfer. Security Center now detects and sends only the changes in a permit list to Patroller, rather than resending the entire permit list. This saves bandwidth for all permit enforcement users, and also allows you to use new features such as Pay-by-plate, which requires a frequent periodic transfer of permit data. Previously, this feature was only supported for hotlists. For more information, see the AutoVu Handbook.

• New and enhanced contexts. License plate recognition is now available, or has been improved, for the following license plates: 

Bahrain

Columbia

Pennsylvania multi-state

Plugin enhancements • Micropoint plugin. Security Center now supports the Micropoint plugin, which integrates Southwest Microwave’s Intrepid™ Micropoint™ Cable or Micropoint™ ll perimeter fence detection systems in Security Center. The Micropoint plugin allows you to do the following: 

Create visual zones to represent a protected fence line.

Associate cameras to virtual zones for monitoring.

Monitor, arm, and disarm virtual zones.

Investigate zone-related activities.

• Panasonic DVR plugin. Security Center now supports the Panasonic DVR plugin, which integrates Panasonic DVRs in Security Center. The Panasonic DVR plugin allows you to do the following: 

View and control live and playback video of cameras controlled by the DVR.

Control PTZ motors of cameras controlled by the DVR.

Export video and search for video archives from cameras controlled by the DVR.

Monitor the health status of the DVR.

LPR

19580

Inventory management task and Inventory report tasks in the Security Desk may use a lot of memory. To avoid performance issues while running a query on a large parking facility inventory (40K places or more), it is recommended to delete all tasks unrelated to MLPI from your task list before launching the query.

LPR

20489

SD: The timestamp associated to a hit corresponds to the time the patrolling officer took action on the hit (Accepted, Rejected, or Not enforced), not the time the hit was raised.

LPR

25725

LPR Manager database cleanup begins when the LPR Manager database table reaches 20,000 reads. Previously, the LPR Manager database cleanup did not start until the database table reached 100,0000 reads. If using SQL 2008 Express, the database could not reach 100,000 reads before reaching the 4 GB limit in SQL Express.

LPR

26008

While upgrading Security Center from 4.0 to 5.0, the server and database used in 4.0 are not automatically reassigned to the LPR Manager role in 5.0. Workaround: You need to reassign the resources manually in the Config Tool.

LPR

44225

SD: In an Inventory report, to permanently get rid of the unreconciled reads, you must delete them from the database, one at a time. Using the multiple selection only removes them from your current report. NOTE Deleting an unreconciled read from the database means you are deleting it from the offload file, so it will not reappear the next time you look for it in the Inventory report. The read remains available in the database other reads report.
