The INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF HUMAN RIGHTS idea is dream come true: joining Universities and Scholars around the world with strong researches on human rights and human dignity to develop international cooperation in order to find solutions to serious human rights violations. In this year of 2016 we take the first step to make it come true. On September 26-30, the Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (Brazil) will host, in Brazil, Scholars from international and Brazilian Universities to

create the INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF HUMAN RIGHTS and debate solutions for serious human rights violations. You can also be part of it. Come and join us. Bring your ideas, your researches, and present them through a paper. We will debate and find solutions together! CALL FOR PAPERS The INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF HUMAN RIGHTS is glad to announce its call for papers for its forthcoming 2016 UNOESC INTERNATIONAL LEGAL SEMINAR - Human Dignity and Human Rights Violations. Papers (written in English, only) for the 2016 meeting can be submitted until August 15th, and the result of the peer review will be published on August 31st. Papers must be original, reveal scientific importance, focus on one of the Working Groups topics, and their main results and conclusions must not have been published or submitted elsewhere before; their conclusion must be interesting to interdisciplinary readership and observe all recommended formal aspects. However, versions of papers originally released in other languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Polish, etc.) shall be accepted.

DISCUSSION VIA SKYPE This Seminar admits submissions from across the world. Whether a foreign author wish to discuss his/her paper via Skype, all he/she have to do is formally require this opportunity through the following email: [email protected] Nevertheless, this option is only available to those authors whose manuscripts were formally accepted by the Scientific Commission.

THEMES FOR DISCUSSION – WORKSHOPS Here you find an indicative and non exhaustive list of themes which are strongly recommended by the Scientific Comission of the Seminar. All of them are recognized as circumstances of serious violations of human rights. Therefore, we encourage you to address one of these themes for discussions.

WORKING GROUP 01 - CIVIL AND POLITICAL HUMAN RIGHTS Arbitrary arrest and arbitrary detention. Violations of the right to self-determination. Restrictions on movement. Enforced disappearance. Excessive use of force by police forces. Forced and large-scaled population displacement. Rape and other sorts of sexual violence. Torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading mistreatment. Violations of the right to life, including murder and massacre, and extrajudicial and summary executions. Excessive use of force by police or other security forces, (e.g. against demonstrators). Violations of the right to freedom of expression and free association. Discrimination. Gender-based violence. Child abuse: sexual and other forms of violence. Violations of the right to property (e.g. home and infrastructure destruction). Forced eviction.

WORKING GROUP 02 - VIOLATIONS IN CONTEXT OF WAR Deliberate targeting of civilian. Use of civilians as ‘human shields’ in armed conflict. Objects used in situations of armed conflict. Indiscriminate attacks in armed conflict. Child recruitment to the armed forces or armed groups. Attacks on hospitals and health facilities and, more generally, failure to respect the right to health. Pillaging in armed conflict. Attacks on schools and education facilities and, more generally, failure to respect the right to education (including prolonged closure of schools). Blockades: preventing people and supplies from coming in or leaving (a port or country) especially during war.

WORKING GROUP 03 - SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC HUMAN RIGHTS States failure to address poverty and inadequate living standards. Slavery and forced labor. States failure to inquire into alleged violations of human rights. States failure to provide detention conditions according to international norms. Obstruction of access to humanitarian aid. Large-scale property destruction (buildings and infrastructure demolition) which affects the human right to adequate housing.
