Learn about recently emerging activities that look suspicious to mortgage lenders - but may or may not be. One example is “Reverse Occupancy” - when a borrower claims to purchase a home as an investment property, lists the rent as income in order to qualify for the mortgage, but occupies the home as a primary residence. While there’s no basis to deny these loans, it’s still viewed as a form of money laundering, so lenders must report it as a suspicious activity, leaving them liable and at risk for repurchase.
