The 307 Bar & Grill has a history as colorful and rugged as the patrons of the wild western town where it resides. The property can be traced back to 1941, when Kate Parkin deeded the “Rodeo Bar” to Will Marvin. A watering hole for local ranchers and travelers, the Rodeo Bar could have been the original setting for the ultimate movie bar room fight. Known for hosting more than its fair share of brawling, the bar earned the infamous nickname, “The Bloody Bucket.” Legend has it that guests not only had to be wary of various weapons that might surface in any given evening, but also dodge bottles that were aimed at any varmint that sought warmth inside. The small, rectangular structure sat parallel to Pike Street on the secondary route road “307” (which eventually became Montana Highway 78). Owned by several families including the Hildermans, Phares, Myers and Woltermanns, the bar boasted several “characters” behind the bar and several name changes – including the 307 Pour House. The “old” 307 was small and rustic with peanut shells on the floor and burgers and pizza prepared in its tiny kitchen. In 1993, Verle and Cindy Davison bought the joint and in 1997 built a new 307. With its beautiful one-piece log bar (designed to meet the height specifications of longtime “long-legged” bartender, Tanya Ordahl) and expanded restaurant, the 307 has earned the reputation of a great bar and grill with fantastic food -- including its signature apple-smoked Certified Angus Beef ® prime rib and original pizza from the old 307 pizza oven. While the highway’s number may have changed, Chad and Jill Ferris (the current owners) encourage you to exit your busy highway for a bite.
