regenatec ”regenatec represent the many faces of science today: invention; practical application, commercial development and moral impulse”. Tony Blair, Speech to the Royal Society, Oxford, UK

Prime Minister Tony Blair with Regenatec CEO Mike Lawton

agenda • introduction to regenatec • customer proposition • product compliance and warranty • confirm issues, actions & next meeting • AOB

regenatec: what we do • convert diesels to run on pure plant oils (PPO) • purchase from 3rd parties & grow ethically sourced PPO via our partnership with CleanStar of India • turn PPO into a proprietary biofuel using proprietary additive technology • supply the PPO to meet the demand we create

regenatec: what we do creating and satisfying demand for a low carbon, cost competitive, renewable alternative to diesel and biodiesel Regenatec ex Bookham Technology R&D Group conversion systems multi-award winning technology permitting diesel engines to operate reliably from pure plant oil (patents pending)

• software • electronics • physics • mechanics

biofuel technical grade pure plant oils with unique additive packs (formulations protectable)

market focus on commercial vehicles • commercial vehicles are ~1% of the UK vehicle population but account for 21% of road transport CO2 • return to base = easy fuel distribution • UK government committed to reduce road transport CO2 by 20% by 2010 via policy: EU Biofuels Directive & Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO)

the customer proposition: why pay to convert commercial vehicles? • better for the environment: class leading ‘carbon footprint’ (~80% mitigation) reduced emissions: NOx, smoke & sulphur dioxide

• being “green” is an order winner • in volume, fuel grade PPO is potentially cheaper than diesel and biodiesel

routes to market • fitting centres third party commercial garages to retro-fit

• self fit retro-fit in house using existing in-house engineers and standard facilities after instruction from regenatec

• factory fit manufacturers fit on line or via service centres

first vehicle: Milton business park shuttle

ring fenced trial: factory fit of 10 Optare Solos

leading local authority: Poole Borough Council

“ Following the success of the first vehicle, and with the continued support of Regenatec, Borough of Poole has now converted a further three vehicles with more planned for the future. We hope to continue our successful partnership with Regenatec to further protect Poole's environment and reduce our carbon footprint." - Cllr Donald Collier, Environment Portfolio Holder, Borough of Poole

• trial vehicle under evaluation, Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, London • EURO 4/5 AdBlue vehicle converted & now under evaluation

Defra funded project: PPO powered trawler ‘The fishing industry is the 6th most carbon intensive industry in the UK’ - Stern Report, Oct 2006 • £500k Defra* funded project average per voyage data (marine diesel): • fuel consumed: 13,500 litres • CO2 emitted: ~37 tonnes • SO2 emitted: ~0.7 tonnes

product compliance and warranty • regenatec computer module allows simple ‘turn the key and go’ operation • exceeds latest EU automotive electrical requirements(2004/104/EC) computer control module

• Millbrook and Mira tested • VOSA compliant • 10 vehicle EURO4 AdBlue trial ongoing (Optare) in-cab display module

• engine warranty available when vehicle fuelled with regenatec RG179 PPO

regenatec UK biofuel supply short term •

choice of edible oil types:

RG179S (technical grade soya from less environmentally sensitive areas)

RG179R (technical grade rape seed oil from UK / EU)

mid to long term •

move to recovered used oils via partnership with PDM Oilsense. Trials due to commence Q2, 2008 (RG179U)

longer term, a move to ethically sourced non-edible oils such as Jatropha and Pongamia (RG179J)

non-food oils from ‘waste’ lands • vast amounts of degraded land in semi-arid tropics where food production is unviable • Jatropha is an inedible oil-bearing plant that grows naturally in these areas • combining traditional farming methods with modern crop improvement and agronomy can turn these wastelands into oil fields • doesn’t compete with food production or adversely impact the environment young Jatropha saplings planted at CleanStar’s R&D site

rural income is boosted through planting, maintaining & harvesting Jatropha

the technology - biodiversity creation Cattle are allowed to graze the site – useful source of natural fertiliser

Check dam provides a new habitat for aquatic life

Local herding routes are maintained through the site as oil trees are not attractive to grazing animals

Dam water provides a habitat for insect life bringing bird life to the area

benefits to local region • turns waste land into carbon sink & marginal land into a valuable ‘oil field’ • Improves land quality allowing small scale food inter-cropping & biodiversity creation • provides labour intensive work to local communities • allows wealth to be returned to those who need it most • labour intensive means low carbon & sustainable • Jatropha PPO is (with conversion technology) is effectively diesel quality fuel - not a raw material feedstock for biodiesel • regenatec has demonstrated some western companies will pay more for ethically produced fuel PPOs • with converted gensets this also provides power to those villages not electrified via national grid

regenatec achievements • developed product in low volume production & in daily use for over 3 years: repeat orders with councils and plcs • strategic commercial relationships established with Optare Group, ADL, Dennis Eagle and Dawson Rentals • engagement from engine manufacturers: Cummins, Mercedes & Tata Motors, India • initial combustion research successfully completed • proprietary additive packs development for a variety of feedstock oils underway • partnership with CleanStar of India to bring low cost, ethical nonfood oils to market to displace use of food oils
