Real Estate sales will increase in 2014: CREA ONTARIO - The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has updated its forecast for home sales activity via the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) Systems of Canadian real estate Boards and Associations for 2014 and 2015. Extraordinarily bleak winter weather made for a slow star t to 2014 national sales activity. As the first quar ter ended, sales momentum heading into spring was constrained by a continuing shor tage of listings in a number of local markets. The rise in newly listed proper ties in April and May suppor ted an increase in sales activity. The deferral of sales and listings reflects a delayed star t to the spring home buying season, with combined sales for the period from March to May coming in largely as anticipated and at average levels. These deferrals are now likely to have been largely depleted, which suggests that the strength of sales momentum heading into the summer may be transient. CREA's forecast for sales activity in 2014 is largely unchanged from its previous forecast published in March. At that time, interest rates had been expected to star t to edge higher in the second half of the year. However, it now appears that interest rates may

not begin to rise until closer to the end of the year, which remains suppor tive for home ownership affordability over the balance of 2014. Sales are forecast to reach 463,400 units in 2014, representing an increase of 1.2 per cent compared to 2013. This is little changed from CREA's forecast of 463,700 sales (rising 1.3 per cent) published in March. Activity is still expected to remain in line with its 10?year average and to hold within fairly shor t reach of 450,000 units for the seventh consecutive year (Char t A). British Columbia is forecast to post the largest year?over?year increase in activity (8.3 per cent), and make the biggest contribution to the increase in national sales activity. B.C.'s projected increase in sales this year largely reflects a slow star t to 2013. Alber ta's annual sales are projected to rise by +3.8 per cent increase in 2014, while activity in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario is expected to be roughly in line with 2013 levels. Sales are forecast to fall by 1.7 per cent and Quebec, 4.2 per cent in New Brunswick in 2014, 5.1 per cent in Nova Scotia, and by 2.6 per cent in Newfoundland and Labrador. I CONTD. ON PAGE 10

CANADIAN COUNCIL OF IMAMS DISAPPROVES CANADIAN MUSLIM YOUTHS TRAVELLING TO FIGHT OVERSEAS TORONTO - In a press release - The Canadian Council of Imams has declared in the past and in numerous occasions its position and commitment to the safety and security of Canada, as per our Aug 2010 declaration published and posted on our website. With regard to Canadian Muslim Youths traveling abroad to fight in Syria or any other places, we hereby issue our Islamic position as follows: In response to the ongoing conversation and also the radicalization of Canadian Muslim youths, we state that: 1. Canadian Muslims are law-abiding citizens and no one should get involved in international wars on the belief and excuse that they are helping their Muslim brothers. Canadian Muslims who might do this will be promoting disloyalty to their government and could place the latter in the untenable situation of coming to their aid in a war zone that Canada is not engaged in. 2. Any Canadian individuals taking up arms and fighting foreign governments are actually breaking the laws of their own country (Canada). We believe that any Canadian citizen who takes up arms should do so only in the legal context of the Canadian law and government. Any country, engaged in civil war should not be aided by mercenaries but rather through the legal mechanism of the UN and its member countries. 3. Muslims in these situations will be promoting disloyalty to their government. In the event they become prisoners, the Canadian government will be in an awkward position to consider them prisoners of war (POW) according to International law. They are more likely to be considered mercenaries. I CONTD. ON PAGE 12

Federal By-elections Liberals win 2 in Ontario, Tories win 2 in Alberta

pic cour tesy: liberal.ca

Though there were By-elections in four federal ridings but the focus was mainly on Trinity-Spadina. An interesting fact about this riding is that since 1972, every time the Liberals won Trinity-Spadina they have gone on to form government; every time the NDP took the riding, the Conservatives have taken power. This time Adam Vaughan from the Liberal party won the election though a strong challenge was expected from Joe Cressy from NDP. Benjamin Sharma was the candidate from Conservative party. Since 2006 the riding had been held by former NDP MP Olivia Chow, who is now running to be mayor of the city. In another GTA riding Scarborough-Agincourt, Arnold Chan, a lawyer and former political aide at the Ontario legislature, managed to keep the riding in the Liberal fold, beating elementary school teacher and Conservative candidate Trevor Ellis. In Fort McMurray-Athabasca, ground zero in the oilsands debate, Liberal Kyle Harrietha had some 35 per cent of the vote but went down to defeat at the hands of Tory candidate David Yurdiga. Only in the southern Alberta riding of Macleod were the Liberals not a factor where former journalist John Barlow cruised to victory with about 69 per cent of the vote, well clear of Liberal rival Dustin Fuller.

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF CANADA ON CANADA DAY Ontario - Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark Canada Day: "One hundred and fifty years ago in Charlottetown and Québec City, our Fathers of Confederation first dreamed of a united Canada, prosperous, strong and free. "As we mark the 147th anniversary of Confederation, we can proudly say that their great national dream has indeed come to fruition. "Today, as we celebrate with family and loved ones, let's remember what makes our Canada the best country in the world. "It's the moms and dads who pass on to their children Canadian values: working hard, doing what's right, and determination to be our best. "All Canadians cheered as we saw these values drive our athletes to victory at the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. "These values are also represented by our men and women in uniform who keep our streets and loved ones safe, and by those proud members of the Canadian Armed Forces who vigorously defend our rare and precious way of life. "The members of our military have always been willing to give their lives to protect our freedom, promote our values and pursue peace. "This year they mark special milestones: the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War, the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Second, and the end of Canada's military mission to Afghanistan, which we honoured across the country in May.

FOOTBALL IN INDIA NEEDS TO GO GLAM: BHAICHUNG BHUTIA With the ongoing football World Cup, Indian soccer fans are back to their once-in-four-years ritual of fretting over the national team’s low FIFA ranking (154th). But former national captain and football icon, Bhaichung Bhutia, who co-owns a football club and runs a chain of football schools, says, “Spor t and glamour go hand in hand. Going glam may be the right dose for football in India. It may propel the spor t fur ther.” Of late, glamour seems to have been added to the game in the form of Bollywood stars like Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham and Salman Khan, who have become co-owners of teams as par t of an upcoming football league. Even cricket icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are involved. Otherwise, too, actors like John, Ranbir, Aditya Roy Kapur and Abhishek Bachchan are also known to be huge football fans. As for the ongoing World Cup, the team that Bhaichung is suppor ting is Germany. The Sikkimese star says, “The Germans (they last won the World Cup in 1990) have not won it in some time. I adore (German club) Bayern Munich, hence the German connection. I’d love to see Germany win this time.” And what about his favourite player? “(Lionel) Messi is someone I absolutely love. His style of play is just superb.”

"Let their legacy in service of Canada inspire us to work harder than ever to continue to build our true Nor th, strong and free. "On behalf of the Government of Canada and from my family to yours, happy Canada Day everyone."

Upon receiving the honorary degree, Tata said, "I just want to tell you how deeply indebted and deeply moved I am to receive this honour that you have bestowed. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." With these few words, Mahatma Gandhi conveyed a profound message, said Vim Kochhar, during York's Faculty of Health Spring Convocation ceremonies. NEW ANTI-SPAM LEGISLATION IN EFFECT JULY 1 OTTAWA - Industry Canada - On July 1, 2014, Canada's anti-spam legislation will come into force. The new rules will protect Canadian consumers from the most damaging and deceptive forms of spam and online threats, such as identity theft, phishing and spyware, and will help drive out spammers. Canada's anti-spam legislation is the result of extensive consultations with Canadian businesses and consumers. Many steps have been taken to limit the impact on Canadian businesses, while ensuring strong protections for consumers online. Organizations will have three years to obtain express consent from their existing clients to continue to send them emails. Registered charities, which operate on the generosity of Canadians, will be able to

continue to request donations. The Harper Government is delivering on a commitment to put Canadian consumers first. The coming into force of Canada's antispam legislation is a key principle under Digital Canada 150, the government's plan for Canadians to take full advantage of opportunities in the digital age. Quick facts " Bill C-28 received support from all parties in the House of Commons and Senate and was passed by Parliament in December 2010. " The new law will help to protect consumers against: o receiving emails and text messages without consent; o having computer programs installed without consent; o misleading representations online; and

o having their electronic addresses and personal information collected without consent. " As of July 1, 2014, consumers will have control over who can send them a commercial electronic message or business email. Even with the consumer's consent, companies will have to identify themselves in their emails and provide a way to unsubscribe from receiving further messages. Spammers that do not comply risk major financial penalties. " On January 15, 2015, it will be illegal to install programs such as malware on an individual's computer without his/her consent. " Starting July 1, 2017, individuals and organizations can file lawsuits against someone who they allege has violated the law. " Spam and related violations can be reported to the enforcement agencies through the Spam Reporting Centre. The CRTC has the primary enforcement responsibility under the new anti-spam law and will be able to investigate, take action against and set administrative monetary penalties for those who are not in compliance. " Canadian businesses still have three years to renew consent with existing clients. " If a business already has express consent, it can continue to communicate with clients through email and not be in violation of the law. " Under the new rules, express consent never expires unless the client withdraws it. " It is estimated that spam costs the Canadian economy more than $3 billion per year. " Many of Canada's global partners, such as Australia, the U.K. and the U.S., have already passed strong laws to combat spam and related online threats. Included in Canada's approach is a mandatory threeyear review of the anti-spam law to ensure it reflects technological change and an evolving digital economy. Quotes "Canadians should not receive emails that they do not want or did not ask to receive. Protecting consumers online is a priority, and that is why we are taking action to eliminate malicious online threats against Canadians. Canada's antispam law will put the interests of consumers first while ensuring that Canadian businesses can continue to thrive in the online marketplace." - Industry Minister James Moore "This legislation will help deter deceptive online marketing practices that harm legitimate businesses' ability to compete and that negatively impact consumers' ability to make informed decisions. Together with the help of fellow federal agencies, we will work to vigorously enforce the law in order to prevent this type of anti-competitive activity from occurring." - John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition, Competition Bureau "Clearly, spamming is an online activity that can involve a misuse of personal information and compromise an individual's sense of privacy. The coming into force of this law is an important step to help address privacy risks in the online world, and my Office looks forward to working with our enforcement partners to better protect Canadians." - Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner of Canada "The CRTC is ready to do its part to protect Canadians from online threats and contribute to a more secure online environment. We have been actively informing Canadian businesses about the anti-spam legislation and their new responsibilities. Our goal is to ensure that their commercial electronic messages-whether an email, text message, message on a social media network or other form of electronic communication-comply with the rules. We have a variety of enforcement tools at our disposal, including the ability to execute warrants and impose significant monetary penalties, and we will use cutting-edge cyber security techniques to investigate violations." - Jean-Pierre Blais, Chairman, Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Source - www.news.gc.ca

Neil Davis, Vice Chair, William Osler Health System Board of Directors and Chair, Peel Community Partners Task Force speaks to a captive audience at Osler’s Annual General Meeting and Peel Memorial celebration

CROWD GATHERS ON NEW HOSPITAL SITE TO CELEBRATE REDEVELOPMENT PROGRESS AS PART OF OSLER’S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING BRAMPTON – Over 300 people gathered in a tent on the site of the new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness yesterday to celebrate a monumental milestone in William Osler Health System’s (Osler) Peel Memorial redevelopment journey. With dignitaries, health care and business leaders from across the region, donors, community members and Osler staff, physicians and volunteers in attendance, Vic Dhillon, MPP for Brampton West announced that Plenary Health has signed a fixed price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new Peel Memorial. This means that construction on the new hospital is set to begin. “This is an exciting time – not only for the hospital, but for Brampton and surrounding areas,” said Kay Blair, Chair, William Osler Health System Board of Directors. “This community has been committed to revitalizing this hospital for years and now, we are seeing these dedicated efforts come to life before our eyes.” “The new Peel Memorial is giving us a chance to lead the way in constructing a state-of-the-art hospital that will meet the increasing health care needs of our growing community, while changing our health system by focusing on health, wellness and prevention of illness and chronic disease,” she added. “We should be proud to be building this type of facility in Brampton and look forward to the many benefits it will bring.” The new Peel Memorial will provide a range of specialities, clinics, day programs and services – including high-tech diagnostics, surgery and women’s and children’s health. Space will also be created for education classrooms where patients and family members can learn from health professionals about how to take a more active role in managing their own health. At Peel Memorial, partnerships with other leading health organizations and complementary health providers – such as naturopaths and chiropractors – will make it easier for patients to get the care they need, when and where they need it most. Open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Peel Memorial’s Urgent Care Centre will alleviate pressures on the emergency department at Brampton Civic Hospital and help patients with non life-threatening illnesses or injuries get treated more quickly. “Osler’s vision of ‘patient-inspired health care without boundaries’, is beyond fitting when it comes to the new Peel Memorial, said Neil Davis, Vice Chair, William Osler Health System Board of Directors and Chair, Peel Community Partners Task Force. “This new facility is giving us a unique opportunity to put into practice the newest research and thinking around the world’s leading health care systems and embrace change so that we can deliver outpatient services in a patient and familyfriendly environment that is well-coordinated and cost-effective.” The value of the fixed price contract with Plenary Health is approximately $530 million. Construction on the new 350,000 square foot hospital will begin immediately, and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2016. “The health care needs of local communities are best understood by those who live and work in them,” said Maria Britto, Chair, Central West Local Health Integration Network Board of Directors. “Today, we recognize the vision and support of a community that has helped to bring a second state-of-the-art health facility to Brampton and the surrounding area and, when I think of how many people have collaborated to make this milestone possible, I am so very proud to say that together we are making healthy change happen.”

Plenary Health was one of three short-listed teams bidding on the project and was chosen as the ‘preferred proponent’ after an extensive evaluation process led by Infrastructure Ontario. The Plenary Health team includes: Developer: Plenary Group (Canada) Ltd. Constructor: PCL Constructors Canada Inc. Architect: Diamond Schmitt Architects and RTKL, an Arcadis Company Financial Advisor: RBC Capital Markets Facilities Management: Honeywell Limited “This milestone brings a deep sense of personal satisfaction and gratitude,” said Bob Peacock, President of Almag Aluminum and Peel Memorial Campaign Cabinet Chair. “I particularly want to thank the members of the Peel Memorial Campaign Cabinet who, very early on, committed their time, energy, leadership and financial support to realize a bold, new health model in Peel Memorial. For those who have been waiting to see our new hospital under construction before making a commitment, now is the time. We need you to join us to fund the building, equipment and technology required to open its doors.” The Peel Memorial celebration took place during Osler’s Annual General Meeting, and provided Osler with the opportunity to share its highlights and achievements with its guests through videos, special presentations, the launch of Osler’s new mobile app, and a new Annual Report available entirely on Instagram. “It was another remarkable year for Osler thanks to the dedicated efforts of our team – our staff, physicians and volunteers,” said Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of William Osler Health System. “What made this year stand out among others was the tremendous support and momentum behind Osler’s redevelopment projects, and the progress we are making in helping transform health care in this region and beyond.” To view Osler’s Annual General Meeting video, its Annual Report on Instagram and Peel Memorial redevelopment updates, visit www.williamoslerhs.ca. BALLOONING FISCAL WOES TO HAUNT WYNNE BY SHAZIA MALIK Toronto - Though the Liberal par ty of Kathleen Wynne has been reinstated, this time forming a majority government, the ballooning fiscal woes will continue to haunt Wynne, a fact she has realized and even mentioned that the health of treasury is faltering. Many wonder against this background how would it be possible to push through an ambitious new provincial pension plan and how would the Liberal government fulfill its promise of a $29-billion spending on transit and other infrastructural developments. It is worth mentioning here that the Liberals also vowed to eliminate a $12.5-billion budget deficit in three years through prudent spending and cutting labor costs. Liberals won as Hudak's vision of cutting 100,000 jobs and lowering spending on education and health created consternation among a large section of society while Wynne's ideas made more sense. Thus eyes would be not only on Wynne but her cabinet as the new found victory is a test to analyze the skills of Liberals as this time around mere 'smiles' will not pay the dividends. The Ontarians would be asking for 'actuals' and government would be asked to alleviate the public adversity by creating jobs, improve healthcare and ensuring quality education at lower costs for all. Many would also be interested in seeing auto insurance slashed to 15% as promised. But to the surprise of many and as if 27 ministers were not capable to run city's affairs, Kathleen Wynne announced the appointment of Steve Orsini who would replace Peter Wallace as secretary of the cabinet and clerk of the executive council. In a statement Wynne said: "I know Steve Orsini will serve Ontarians well and help our government lead from an activist centre - by creating jobs and growing the economy now and for the future. "He will be instrumental in helping our government implement its comprehensive plan to invest in our talented and skilled workforce and secure their retirement incomes, build better roads and transit, support our dynamic business climate, and eliminate the deficit by 2017-18. His advice, experience and professionalism have been invaluable to our government and have contributed to many of our accomplishments." Orsini has been brought in to control the budget deficit. The next few months would be critical for the Liberal government as putting the proposals of their monetary blueprint in place can prove to be a daunting task. But we wish our Premier all the best.

TORONTO - CTV's The Amazing Race this year will see two South Asian siblings for the first time who are eagerly waiting to be par t of this coveted show that commences from July 8. Sukhi and her brother Jinder, a pair of globetrotting entrepreneurs from Terrace, B.C., are prepared to do whatever it takes to win. It is wor th mentioning here that only one team can earn the title as Season 2 champions of The Amazing Race Canada. The biggest grand prize ever awarded for a Canadian competition series expanded this season to include 'gas for life' from Petro-Canada, a $250,000 cash payout and the oppor tunity to fly free for a year anywhere Air Canada flies worldwide in Business Class, plus two Chevrolet Silverado High Country Edition Pickup Trucks. Teams are also competing for special pit stop prizes cour tesy of Air Canada and Scotiabank, to be revealed during the broadcasts. Encore episodes of 'The Amazing Race Canada' will be aired on Saturdays at 8pm ET/PT and Sundays at 5pm ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO. Midweek sat with the duo to understand what motivated the brother and sister to join the show. According to them they first thought of par ticipating in the race years ago when they saw the American show that was only available to residents of the USA till recently. Sukhi informed: "But when we found out that the show was coming to Canadian television we were extremely excited and knew we had to apply! For as long as we could remember we had always said we would kill The Amazing Race! Deep down in our hearts we knew once the show comes to Canada, we would be on it!" However, seeking permission from parents was the first step to enter the competition who when informed were not quite sure until they watched a couple of episodes. Though the father's eyes enlivened with enthusiasm, the mother had her doubts because to her the whole affair looked, what she called, "dangerous!!" However, knowing their kids were thrill-seekers, both soon agreed. Jinder added: "Our parents and siblings Kuldeep and Harmit believed in us, thought we would do it and star ted helping us in every possible way! A lot of times it was encouragement and delicious meals! They encouraged us to train hard and do whatever it took to get in the best shape possible. Mom enrolled us for swimming to gain speed. Sukhi met a terrible accident last year, so she had to work extra hard to get rid of back pain and so she pulled up her sleeves to be combat ready for the upcoming adventure." The amazing race preparation brought amazing bonding between the

family who stood by the dreams of Sukhi and Jinder. An audition video was uploaded hours before the deadline on December 26 last year with their mission statement that Sukhi said was loved by the producers who called in the adventurous bro-sis team for a meeting and finally gave them the nod to go ahead. The organizers liked their dynamism, adventurous spirit and fearlessness required to sweat it out during the show. Sukhi said: "Having an open mind and going for every experience full hear tedly are great traits to have! We have traveled and worked all around the world together and been best friends for as long as we can remember!! We want to put our skills to the test and do whatever it takes to bring the title home and prove it to ourselves that we can be put to extreme tests and succeed!" Getting beacon from their parents who migrated to Canada with limited resources to give a good life to their kids, Sukhi and Jinder they can do much better as the country offers endless oppor tunities and one really needs to act to pursue one's dreams. Their message to all aspiring South Asian racers is to just go for it and not to take one's dreams to the graveyard. Both intend to present the Silverado Trucks to their father as a token of appreciation and invest the winning amount in their next venture if they succeed. In future Sukhi and Jinder anticipate star ting their own show and expand their non-profit organization, One Dollar Projects that was inspired by the situation in Haiti. The siblings believe though a $1 does not look a big amount but if everyone donates, it can bring about a substantial change in the lives of less privileged.

A SPACE FOR US ALL CBC/RADIO-CANADA UNVEILS NEW STRATEGY FOR ALL CANADIANS

Toronto - CBC/Radio-Canada announced its new strategy for taking the public broadcaster to 2020 and beyond. It will transform the Corporation from the traditional to the modern, and aims to better serve Canadians, through three fundamental shifts: the digital, the individual and the sustainable. "A space for us all is a strategy to make CBC/Radio-Canada the public space at the hear t of our conversations and experiences as Canadians," said Huber t T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. "We want to be a par t of daily life. In the home, in the car, at work, and at play - CBC/Radio-Canada will be at your finger tips." A space for us all is about modernizing the public broadcaster to bring it closer to its audience. The strategy outlines CBC/Radio-Canada's plans to: " Intensify its relationship with Canadians through the delivery of relevant, distinctly Canadian content and services, offered through modern distribution methods, with an emphasis on digital and mobile services; " Preserve its geographic presence, to be even more local, but at a reduced cost; " Significantly reduce in-house production - excluding news, current affairs and radio - while continuing to promote acquired or commissioned enter tainment content from Canada's independent creative sector; " Lighten its technology and real estate footprint across the country, focusing effor ts and resources on content rather than infrastructure; " Become a scalable and flexible company with the appropriate tools, resources and people to deliver its strategy; and " Develop long-term, sustainable ways to manage its financial health, and the ability to invest in the future, as market conditions and audience habits evolve. "In the past seven years, the most painful and frustrating task for me has been to implement one round after another of reductions to respond to a changing environment and balance the budgets," commented Lacroix. "We need to find a path to sustainability. This time, these changes - and some of them will be difficult - will allow us to end up in a better place. They will allow us to ensure that we build a new CBC/Radio-Canada that will be a great place to work, that will be a champion of Canada, and it will be sustainable." Ultimately, the strategy aims to better position the public broadcaster to meet the fundamental shifts that are transforming the media universe, and consequently how it connects with Canadians. In order to better measure success, the Corporation has established two key targets: " By 2020, the public broadcaster will have doubled its digital reach. 18 million Canadians, one out of two, will use CBC/RadioCanada's digital services each month. " By 2020, three out of four Canadians will answer that CBC or

Radio-Canada is very important to them personally. "Implementing the strategy will require careful steps, balancing our relationship with Canadians and the needs of a new CBC/Radio-Canada with the impact these changes will have on our people," continued Lacroix. "And we will ensure we develop and retain the skills necessary to thrive in this new era. Every change we are making through this strategy is designed to ensure we put as many of our resources into great content as possible. The creativity and passion of our workforce will always be critical to our success." "The strategy itself doesn't have all the answers, but it provides a solid framework that will allow us to face new challenges and seize new oppor tunities," added Lacroix. "I am confident that, come 2020, we will have secured our ability to serve future generations of Canadians, and we will be a model of modern public broadcasting worldwide." Real Estate sales will increase in 2014: CREA CONTD. FROM PAGE 1 2015 OUTLOOK FOR ECONOMY In 2015, the outlook for the economy, jobs and incomes is one of fur ther improvement, accompanied by a slow and gradual increase in fixed and variable mor tgage interest rates. On balance, these two opposing factors should most benefit housing markets where sales are currently softer but prices remain more affordable. Sales in relatively less affordable housing markets are likely to be more sensitive to higher fixed mor tgage rates, whether from the standpoint of higher monthly mor tgage payments or qualification for mor tgage financing based on the posted five?year mor tgage interest rate. As such, provinces east of Ontario are expected to post the largest gains in activity in 2015 in the range of around 2.5 to five per cent, while sales in provinces from British Columbia to Ontario are forecast to remain little changed. National activity is now forecast to reach 467,800 units in 2015, representing a fur ther annual increase of 0.9 per cent. This would result in sales staying in line with the 10?year average for the eighth year in a row. Average prices have remained firm and continue to reflect a rise in the share of national sales among some of Canada's most active and expensive markets compared to last year. Additionally, prices have been heating up in some markets, par ticularly in Calgary and Toronto where single family proper ties remain in shor t supply. The national average home price is now projected to rise by 5.7 per cent to $404,300 in 2014, with similar sized gains in British Columbia, Alber ta, and Ontario. More modest changes in average prices are forecast for all other provinces this year. The national average price is forecast to edge up a fur ther 0.7 per cent in 2015 to $407,300. Alber ta and Manitoba are forecast to post average price gains of two per cent in 2015, followed closely by Ontario at 1.2 per cent. Average prices in all other provinces are forecast to remain stable, edging up by less than one percentage point.

Scarborough, ON - Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced today that more than 3,900 individuals from approximately 125 countries became Canadian citizens at ceremonies held in the Scarborough area this month. Ceremonies like these demonstrate how the government is working to make the citizenship program more efficient, helping more people realize sooner their dream of becoming Canadian. "The increasingly high number of individuals taking on the full responsibility of citizenship and committing to Canadian values and traditions shows the high value of Canadian citizenship. It also demonstrates that our government's effor ts to improve the citizenship program and decrease wait times are working. On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate these new citizens, and welcome them to the Canadian family." Chris Alexander, Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister The government's recent changes to the Citizenship Act will fur ther reduce wait times by streamlining the decision-making process for citizenship. It is expected that these changes will bring the average processing time for citizenship applications down to under one year, and that the current backlog will be reduced by more than 80 percent by April 2016. Quick facts " Since 2006, Canada has enjoyed the highest sustained levels of immigration in Canadian history an average of a quar ter million newcomers each year. " So far in 2014, Canada has welcomed approximately 122,000 new citizens. " On June 19, 2014, Bill C-24, Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act, became law. The new provisions strengthen the integrity of the citizenship system and reduce processing times for citizenship applications. Rob Ford still has questions to answer Toronto Mayor Rob Ford makes his return to city hall on Monday, when he plans to address repor ters in his office directly. What he won’t be doing, which his spokesman confirmed Friday, is answering repor ters’ questions. Over the past year of Mr. Ford’s scandal-plagued mayoralty, he has routinely refused to respond to questions regarding drug use, a police investigation targeting him, complaints to the integrity commissioner, and questionable behaviour at city hall. After repor ts first sur faced last year about a videotape that appeared to show him smoking crack cocaine, the mayor denied for months using the drug or being addicted to drugs. It was only in October, when Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair announced that police had a copy of the video, that Mr. Ford finally admitted to having smoked crack cocaine. And even then, he denied being an addict. But in April, immediately following a Globe and Mail repor t that revealed the existence of a second videotape apparently showing the mayor using crack cocaine, the mayor suddenly announced his leave of absence.

AAP should NOT fight elections in Haryana & Maharashtra , focus on Delhi : Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal has indicated in his tweets that right now the Aam Admi Party should focus on Delhi Elections. AAP Twitter - My personal view is that we should not fight any other election before Delhi assembly election , People are angry from our resignation because people had hope from us. Like we asked people before forming govt, we should have asked while leaving too. We are here

not to change one constituency but the whole country! Fighting in Delhi seems to be more logical! Winning Delhi is extremely important to generate positive political energy! We will win Delhi for sure but the question is whether BJP will want elections to be held- @ArvindKejriwal

There was a time after Delhi elections where APP had a powerful performance and formed the Government, Haryana was the next battleground. The Lok Sabha Poll results in Haryana and Maharashtra were a disaster for APP which did not win any seats in these states. Though

AAP did not win any seat in Delhi Lok Sabha Elections but were second to BJP in all the seven seats. Just a week ago Yogendra Yadav had said that AAP will make corruption as the major issue if they decide to fight elections in Haryana which are due in October. AAP Twitter - People did not see AAP as a political alternative at National level - that was our challenge as a new party! There are 1350 other parties who fight every election! We need to make sure that we don't become 1351'st! After the poll debacle in Lok Sabha Polls it was time for introspection and regrouping but the news in media about the infighting of the top leadership didn't help. There were also a few resignations from AAP leaders which is still continuing though Kejriwal claims that all MLAs from AAP in Delhi are united. Delhi has been under presidential rule since Feb 17 after Kejriwal resigned as the chief minister over the stalling of the Jan Lokpal bill in the assembly. No party in the capital, where the assembly is under suspended animation, has staked claim to form the government and this might pave the way for fresh elections.

MAMATA FLAYS CENTRE OVER FOOD SECURITY ACT Blaming the Centre for the non-implementation of the Food Security Act in West Bengal so far, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the union government has failed to put in place a proper law and decide on the funding for the scheme. However, Ms. Banerjee claimed, that over 3.2 crore people in Bengal can procure rice at Rs.2 per kg due to the initiatives taken by her government. “The centre has not been able to implement food security yet...there is no proper law in place for food security...there is no decision from where funding will come...but in Bengal we have provided rice to 3.2 crore people at Rs.2 per kg,” she said at an official function here. Speaking on the occasion of Hool Divas marking the 1855 Santhal Rebellion against the British, Ms. Banerjee announced plans to set up tribal hubs in every district of the state. Her statement comes days after Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan rejected the Bengal government’s

plea to extend by six months the deadline for implementing the act, and said the scheme would have to be implemented within three months. While the deadline for implementing the National Food Security Act was July 4, the Food Ministry Thursday announced its decision to extend the deadline by three months.Ms.Banerjee paid tribute to the tribal mar tyrs, the four Murmu brothers, Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav, who led the tribal rising against the British in Bengal, two years before the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857. Batting for educational reforms for t tribal uplift, Banerjee said tribal hubs will be set up in every district of the state. “We have extended reservation to OBCs (other backward category) without affecting General seats. We expanded our infrastructure for that. We will set up one Tribal Bhavan in every district,” said Banerjee, who is in-charge of the state’s tribal ministry.

India on Monday successfully launched five foreign satellites from four countries on board PSLV-C23 rocket which placed them in orbit, an achievement described by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an ‘endorsement’ of the country’s space capabilities. After a per fect lift off from the First Launch Pad in Satish Dhawan Space Centre here at 9.52 a.m. witnessed by Mr. Modi, Indian Space Research Organisation’s workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C23 placed all five satellites into their intended orbits, one after the other between 17 and 19 minutes after liftoff, in textbook precision. Though the Mission Readiness Review Committee and Launch Authorisation Board had on Friday cleared the launch, the launch time was rescheduled to 9.52 a.m. today, a delay of three minutes, attributed to “probable space debris” coming in the rocket’s way. Besides its primary payload of 714 kg French Ear th Observation Satellite SPOT—7, PSLV C23 carried and placed in orbit 14 kg AISAT of Germany, NLS7.1 (CAN—X4) and NLS7.2 (CAN—X5) of Canada each weighing 15 kg and the 7 kg VELOX—1 of Singapore. In his first official visit to this spacepor t, Mr. Modi asked the space community to develop a SAARC satellite even as he heaped praise on Indian space scientists, recalling their contributions from the early days. He referred to pictures showing rocket components being transpor ted on bicycles. A visibly elated Mr. Modi, who said it was a ‘privilege’ to witness the event, congratulated “our brilliant space scientists for a successful launch“. “This fills every Indian’s heart with pride and I can see the joy reflected on your face,” he said from the Mission Control Room, adding today’s successful launch of foreign satellites was a “global endorsement of India’s space capability”.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird released the following statement: "I was personally dismayed to hear the horrific news that three Israeli teenagers, Naftali Fraenkel, Gilad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach, were found murdered near Hebron. "My prayers and hear tfelt condolences go out to their families and friends and all Israelis who have been emotionally awaiting their safe return. Canada will be represented at the shivas by our ambassador to Israel, to pay our respects and mourn with all Israelis. "Terror must never be allowed to stand in the face of any country or people that aspires to bring peace and prosperity to their citizens. Israel is a country that faces unimaginable threats from terrorist organizations, like Hamas, on a daily basis. Canada has, and will always condemn murderous terrorist attacks like we've seen today. "Canada hopes that the perpetrators of this heinous act are swiftly brought to justice, and we call on the Palestinian Authority to work with Israeli authorities toward this end. "We stand with all Israelis on this painful day, and we offer Canada's unwavering suppor t as they mourn the loss of three young men who were taken from their families and friends far too early." IRAQ splitting into 3 STATES On Sunday The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS or ISIL), declared the establishment of a new state, spanning par ts of both Iraq and Syria. How long will ISIS will be able to hold on to this vast area is debatable and also will the International community accept this new state. As of now Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki is holding on to the Capital Baghdad and Southern Iraq. Al Maliki is under tremendous pressure to step down and hand over the power to a new Prime Minister. The Iraqi forces are fighting hard to save cities from falling under ISIS. Russia has send Fighter Jets which may help the Iraqi forces. As ISIS have pressed forward, capturing the Iraqi cities of Mosul, Tikrit, and Ramadi and encircling Baghdad, Iraq's Kurds have taken advantage of the chaos by expanding their territory and pushing for greater autonomy. The Kurds May Seize the Moment to Break Free of Iraq. Their centuries-old dream of statehood by the name Kurdistan is coming closer amid the chaos of war. Sitting atop an ocean of newly conquered oil fields and emboldened by the breakdown of the Iraqi state, Kurdish President Masoud Barzani declared that the Kurds would not cede their newly conquered territory. "We cannot remain hostages for the unknown … The time is here for the Kurdistan people to determine their future," he said. But the recent turmoil in Iraq does not alone explain the surge toward greater Kurdish independence. Since the founding of modern Iraq nearly a century ago, Kurds in the nor th-nestled along the Turkish, Syrian, and Iranian borders-have chafed against the central government in Baghdad. Most likely Iraq will be split into 3 States Baghdad and South controlled by Central Iraqi Government, More Independent Kurdistan controlled by Kurdish Government and the third state controlled by ISIS.

TWIN BLASTS KILL POLICE COLONEL IN CAIRO Two bombs went off near the presidential palace in Cairo on Monday, killing one police officer and injuring several others. A team of explosives exper ts were trying to diffuse two bombs near the palace when one of them went off, killing Colonel Ahmed Amin Ashmawy and injuring several policemen, the Ministry of Interior said. Another bomb went off shor tly afterwards as police were cordoning off the area to search for other possible explosive devices, state media repor ted. The incident occurred at the same place where, a year earlier, thousands had staged protests that eventually led to the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsy. Egypt has seen a spate of attacks, targeting mainly security forces, since the army deposed Morsy, on July 3. last year. The military-backed government has blamed the unrest on Morsy’s Muslim Brotherhood and designated it a terrorist organisation. The group has repeatedly denied links to violence and accused authorities of oppression. Ex-army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, who was sworn in as president earlier this month, has vowed to re-establish security in the country.

HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA Music: Sachin-Jigar, SharibToshi, Sony Music Rating: 3.5 The soundtrack for this youthful comedy has six songs which two composer duos SharibToshi and Sachin-Jigar share equally. In line with the trend of revamping non-film songs for Hindi movies, this album has new versions of Saturday Saturday and Samjhawan. Sharib-Toshi have adapted last year's Badshah and Titans' Punjabi hit Saturday Saturday. The song's original lyricists and composers Indeep Bakshi and Badshah have sung this one too, with additional vocals by Akriti Kakar and additional lyrics by Kumaar. While this one's already a hit, a better adaptation by Sharib-Toshi is the melodious Samjhawan, which was originally composed Jawad Ahmed for 2010 Punjabi film Virsa. Recreating an original sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Farah Anwar is no easy

THE MAKERS OF RANI MUKERJI'S 'MARDAANI' HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN ASKED BY THE CENSOR BOARD TO EDIT OUT CUSS WORDS AND AN ATTEMPTED RAPE SCENE FROM THE PROMO The Central Board of Film Cer tification (CBFC) has apparently toughened its stance on cuss words in films. It turns out Rani Mukerji's film Mardaani is facing the brunt of this as the Censor Board has apparently asked its makers to delete the cuss word, ha*****da (referring to a child born out of wedlock), from the film"s promo. Says a source, "The board has asked for the profane words to be deleted from Mardaani's promo. Apar t from this, there was a scene in the promo showing a man attempting rape and this was also asked to be edited out; it showed the man pull at the blouse of a woman." It may be recalled that in the recent past, the Censor Board was lenient in its treatment of cuss words. The board used to categorise films and hand out certification as per the number of cuss words in a film. But if the crackdown on verbal abuse in Mardaani's promo is anything to go by, it looks like all that is set to change. Mardaani has Rani Mukerji play a crime branch officer who investigates human trafficking cases. The film's spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

DHOOM AGAIN! DHOOM:3 THE GAME'S SEQUEL MAKES DEBUT task but Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal succeed beautifully. Sachin-Jigar have given Daingad Daingad elements of folk and festivity, and crazy bunch of singers including Divya Kumar, Kakar, Pratibha Baghel, Nihaarika Sinha, Deepali Sathe, and Udit Narayan! Irshad Kamil's words

are right on the pulse of Nor th India. However, the duo aren't as successful with the technodriven Lucky Tu Lucky Me, despite Benny Dayal and Anushka Manchanda's vocals, Shashank Khaitan's words and leading man Varun Dhawan's rapping. Emotional Fool is dance-oriented but tedious

although the vocals by Toshi Sabri — one-half of the song's composers Sharib-Toshi — are interesting. Sachin-Jigar bring Vishal Dadlani on as singer for final track D Se Dance. He vibes well with the bubbly Manchanda and Shalmali Kholgade, and the tune is catchy.

and Juliet, Jatt and Juliet 2, Best of Luck and most recently Romeo Ranjha have been produced under this banner. Lead Star of the movie Diljit Singh and Producer Manmord Singh Sidhu were present at the event. Diljit Dosanjh has proved his mettle as a multitalented singer / actor who has taken Punjabi cinema to a whole new level. Although he started his career in films with an action role, his great comedic timing in films, Jatt and Juliet, Jatt and Juliet 2 and Disco Singh have been immensely appreciated worldwide. "Punjab 1984" will give the audience a chance to see yet another side of him as he portrays a role of a man whose life is full of angst, tragedy, anger and turmoil. Diljit said the movie is unlike the usual crop of masala Indian movies and would see both Diljit and Kirron at their best. The singer turned actor Diljit is ecstatic on doing this film and informed he agreed to shrug off his comic cloak and play this very difficult role after reading the script. And according to the director in the mother's role they could not find a better fit than Kirron Kher . Diljit said the movie will not only touch a chord with Punjabis period but will transcend regional barriers for showing a mother's relentless love for her child. The story of Punjab 1984 also moves on the sensitive issue showing the anguish of a mother who is out in wilderness and on a quest to search her son. Diljit claimed the movie is unlike others made earlier in Hindi and Punjabi and is not a political drama. The movie is shot in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. 'COMMANDO' ACTOR VIDYUT JAMWAL HAS APPARENTLY MANAGED TO UPSET BOTH SHAH RUKH KHAN AND SALMAN KHAN BY OPENLY TALKING ABOUT REFUSING THEIR FILMS If sources are to be believed, Vidyut Jamwal has managed to upset not one but two superstars: Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The actor apparently turned down a role in Farah Khan's upcoming film, Happy New Year, and later on, he refused to play Salman Khan's younger brother in Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. It seems that the actor has been rejecting these offers in favour of solo-lead projects. It is being said that one of the filmmakers he is currently in talks with is Rajkumar Santoshi. "After showcasing his strength and skill in Force, Commando and Bullet Raja, the actor now wants to do solo roles. Moreover, Vidyut has been openly talking about refusing films starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, and this has annoyed the superstars," says a source. The source adds that the actor also wants to work only with leading actresses now. "Recently, some filmmakers approached him and he made it clear to them that he wanted to be cast opposite top actresses," says the source.

BOLLYWOOD DARING: ODD PAIRS ARE THE BEST There was a time when Sanjeev Kumar and Zeenat Aman were seen together in Shammi Kapoor's "Manoranjan" and that was probably the oddest pair yet. Now with a scarcity of dates for leading ladies, the oddest of couples are being seen together in our films. Here's looking at some weird out of the box casting. * Rishi Kapoor and Radhika in "Mere Pati Mera Devta Hai": From their very contrasting skin tones to their very different personalities, Rishi and the dusky South Indian actress (with her gravity-defying ponytail) were mismatched from the word go. And that's exactly what the script demanded. * Naseeruddin Shah and Vidya Balan in "The Dirty Picture": They were perfectly in-sync earlier in "Ishqiya". In "The Dirty Picture", he was potbellied, bewigged and ridiculously selfimportant. She was breathy pouty and all over him. The end results were hilariously countererotic pouts. *Vidya Balan and Ali Fazal in

"Bobby Jasoos": Heroines being paired with younger guys is nothing new. Sadhana, Mala Sinha and Nanda in their heydays worked with Rajesh Khanna, Sanjay Khan and Shashi Kapoor who were their juniors. The thing about Ali Fazal is that he looks very Hyderabadi and very much in love with the bewitching Ms Balan. Age no bar. * Kangna Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao in "Queen": She had worked with the senior lot of superstars including Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol(in the unreleased "I Love New York"). Rajkummar seemed like a different world which is exactly what the director Vikas Behl wanted. Sometimes incompatibility makes an unlikely couple jell on screen. * Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan In "Nishabd": This one takes the cake, and the bakery, for the oddest pairing of all times. He was 60. She was his daughter's 18-year old wild reckless friend. She seduced him.

Team India in England for 5 Tests, 5 ODIs and 1 T20 The tour of England starts from June 26 and concludes on September 7 during which the Indians will play five Tests , an equal number of ODIs and one Twenty20 International. The left-handed Gambhir's return to the Test squad was on expected lines after he rediscovered his form in the domestic circuit and had been in good touch in the IPL 7. Injured pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and spinners Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha were the notable omissions from the squad The 32-year-old's last Test appearance for India was way back in 2012 in the home series against England. Rajasthan pacer Pankaj Singh, 29, has been rewarded for his consistent form in the goneby Ranji season during which he picked 45 wickets but his name was not in the reckoning for a place in the Test team. Binny's inclusion came as a bit of a surprise but the selectors might have considered the utility of his gentle medium pace bowling in the seaming conditions in England. Barring Binny and Pankaj's inclusion, there were no other surprises in the squad for England which has been packed with a host of pace bowlers to capitalise on the seamer-friendly conditions. The side features seven pacers, led by the gangling Ishant Sharma, and just two spinners in Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Apart from adding the experienced Gambhir, the batting line-up has not

been tinkered with. Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan are the two openers, followed by Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma. Wriddhimaan Saha has been taken on board as backup for Dhoni, who is the team's first-choice wicketkeeper. The selectors continued to ignore veteran Virender Sehwag, who has done his case no good by continuing to underperform in the domestic arena. Only three players -- Dhoni, Ishant and Gambhir - of this chosen squad of 18 have the experience of playing Tests in England. The England tour commences on June 26 with a three-day game in Leicester. The visitors are to play one more warm-up three-day game against Derbyshire (July 1-3) before the fivematch Test series starts on July 9 at Trent Bridge.

The other Tests are to be played at Lord's (July 17- 21), Ageas Bowl in Southampton (July 27-31), Old Trafford (August 7-11) and The Oval (August 15-19). The Tests would be followed by the five-match ODI series commencing on August 25 at Bristol before India would wind up the visit by playing a one-off T20 international against the hosts on September 7 at Edgbaston. Incidentally, the Dhoni-led team was comprehensively beaten 4-0 in the four-game rubber in 2011, India's previous full tour to England and this visit gives it a chance to make amends. Brazil court order forced cooling breaks PORTO ALEGRE: Brazilian authorities have forced Fifa, which was playing hard ball, to accept the idea that playing in the heat and humidity of the nor th and nor th east regions of country could seriously affect the health and performance of the players, especially those who find the conditions alien to them. The Mexico-Netherlands game saw tennis-style towel-breaks for the first time in World Cup history. While the USAPor tugal June 22 game in Manaus too was stopped for water-breaks, Fifa said Sunday's Fortaleza game was the first official game. Fifa, however, was acting on a Brazil cour t order to halt play in intense heat. It was after a petition filed by the Brazilian footballers union, protesting against the 1pm kick-offs here, that the cour t gave this order. A fine of 200,000 reals (about $90,000) per each match hangs over Fifa's head in case of failure to comply. The ruling states that that water breaks would be necessary in all football matches played in Brazil if the temperature reached 32 degrees Celsius in the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature index, which takes into account factors such as time of day, cloud cover, wind, humidity and location. The cour t also said football's world governing body is responsible for registering the temperature during matches by using cer tified equipment. According to official figures, the Dutch and Mexican teams ran a combined distance of 225 km in the 32 degree Celsius and 68% humidity of For taleza on Sunday. The Mexicans ran 44.3 km without the ball, a game they hear tbreakingly lost in the last minute. After half an hour and in the 75th minute, when both teams walked out for a break, it almost became a 'Where were you when it happened?' moment in World Cup history.

Germany vs Algeria: Germany beat Algeria 2-1 to advance into quarters

PORTO ALEGRE: That wildly infectious AC/DC rock number 'Thunderstruck' which blares out of Brazil's stadiums before the team's line up could well have been Germany's theme song for the day here. What a day poor Thomas Mueller had, what an equally wretched day his goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had. And, in the dark grey clouds of cold, rainy Por to Alegre, what a soaring journey his opposite number Rais Mbolhi had. Algeria did what they love doing best on the football field rattle Germany to the bone. A goalless spell of regulation time football went the nor th Africans' way as they looked like one from the footballing elite and not a distant memory. Finally, in the second minute of extra time, Germany did score. Andre Schuerrle deflected it past the outstretched hands of Mbolhi, who finally showed that he was no eagle, but fallible. But did it matter? Then Mesut Ozil - ineffective all day despite going

into the game as the best passer in the final third with 80 successful ones at this World Cup - scored. But did it matter? When substitute Abdelmoumene Djabou scored one for Algeria in that extra time slot, past the 120 minutes of extra time, and entire stadium erupted - Algerian, German and all. Because, up until then it had been another story. It all began when cool Germany were given an eighth minute scare - and this was not just the Por to Alegre crowd chanting "Gijon, Gijon!!" in ode to the 'fix' between West Germany and Austria in 1982 which denied the African side - who had beaten them earlier. Here, it star ted when Islam Slimani forced Manuel Neuer off his area to shakily clear the ball. This was when El Arabi Soudani had set him up by flicking it past Per Mer tesacker along the left channel. It was the move that changed

the tone of the game. Germany had been keeping the ball, passing it along themselves and then releasing Shkodran Mustafi on the right to set up Thomas Mueller or Mario G o e t z e w i t h l o w, B a y e r n Munich-like cross. For a while the Algerians watched it, then the burly but surprisingly nimble Soundani pounced on a lax Mustafi, raced up, turned around Mer tesacker - the Arsenal player who was suddenly made to look like Tony Adams when up against Luis Figo - and fed Slimani, things looked different. When he star ted Algeria's coach Vahid Halilhodzic had penciled in an ultra-defensive looking 51-3-1 formation. But it was a deceptive one. For his three front men in Soudani, Sofiane Fe g h o u l i a n d S a p h i r Ta i d e r proved excellent ballplayers with wonder ful vision and touch. Soudani, especially was the chief orchestrator of the German unease. Slimani tested

Boateng and Mer tesacker once again almost a minute later. In a space of an quar ter of an h o u r, A l g e r i a h a d h a d t h r e e shots at Neuer's goal and Germany suddenly hardly looked like the side that demolished Por tugal and looked the most prepared side in the World Cup here. Neuer was playing just like his boss at work, Pep Guardiola would have imagined in his ideal football world -- as an added sweeper off his line, even his area, but it was more out of necessity than invention. It was a telling statistic. Manuel Neuer had more touches (24) in the first half than half of Algeria's players. Boateng was having a torrid time and could do little when Taider received a superb ball from the left by Slimani to head past Neuer for the opening goal. The stadium went wild, but linesman Marcelo van Gasse of Brazil ruled it offside. Such was the domination that

Mesut Ozil -so far, had to shift his area of operation to left, because he was so edged out on his favoured right side. He tried to chip Rais Mbolhi off a great chance but the Algerian keeper was more than ready for it. There were heroics in store for Mbolhi when he first stopped To n u K r o o s a n d t h e n M a r i o Goetze on the rebound. In the second half, the Algerians wasted two good chances at the death as Neuer was more an outfield player than a goalk e e p e r. A t t h e o t h e r e n d s , Mueller looked like Wayne Rooney in an England shir t doing everything, being all over the place, even clumsily falling by himself, but not scoring. No sir, not happening. But it was not surprising. Algeria have always managed to rattle the Germans, having won both their previous meetings a 2-0 in a friendly on New Year's Day in 1964 and that hugely famous 2-1 win in the group phase of the 1982 World Cup. There were other factors stacked against the European side. In a World Cup hosted in South America, Germany have never reached far ther than the quar ter finals. Algeria had scored six goals so far in the tournament, equalling the total number of goals they had scored in all of their three previous participations combined. Was it a sign up there in the cloudy dull grey Porto Alegre sky? But then there also was Miroslav Klose who with his 15 goals, needed only more to surpass Ronaldo's all-time top scorer tally. As the teams trudged off at the break, Mueller convinced he had been tied down in chains by a sure Algerian defence and some super work by Mbolhi, this must have been uppermost on both team's minds. Algeria was on top, but how long could they keep it that way? But they did.

PROMISING YOUNG INDIAN SHUTTLER Toronto - The 24-year-old and sixth seeded Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal lifted her first Super Series title in two years when she won the Australian Open in Sydney recently and received a whooping amount of $750,000 after defeating Spain's Carolina Marin. Suppor ted by the Olympic Gold Quest, she won the India Open Grand Prix Gold earlier this year. While Yudhvir mentioned the big prize money she clinched in Sydney, Dr Sharda mentioned the youngster is earning much more through brand endorsements in India but still needs to hone her skills as her performance has not been very consistent. Born on March 17, 1990 in Dhindar, Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh), Saina Nehwal was ranked number two in December 2010 by the World Badminton Federation. She became not only the first Indian to win a bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012, but World Junior Badminton Championship also. Before making her debut at the Olympic circuit she has already won the Super Series tournament in Indonesia Open in 2009.

Canadian stuns world at Wimbledon Toronto - Canadian horizons are witnessing a new star Eugenie Bouchard who is shooting up to success to the sheer pleasure of the nation. Making her first appearance in the Wimbledon quar ter-finals, Bouchard defeated Alize Cornet 7-6 (7/5), 7-5 in the four th round yesterday. The 20-year-old and the 13th seed rose her status to prominence after crushing the intimidating the 25th seed French who had thrashed world number one Serena Williams in an earlier match. Dravid to mentor India in England

Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed in a mentoring role to the team in the run-up to their five-Test series in England. Dravid will have a few sessions with the players before the series begins on July 9. He is expected to join the team latest by Monday. The move was initiated by the team management, according to BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel. "It was the coach (Duncan Fletcher) who approached us on behalf of the team and said it would be good to have Rahul with his vast experience spend some time with the boys ahead of the series," Patel told ESPNcricinfo. "We immediately requested Rahul and he readily agreed." This will be the first time Dravid, who has been mentoring IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals after retiring from international cricket in 2012, will be associated in such a capacity with the national team. In March this year, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar had said that Dravid should take over as India coach, but the latter had declined the suggestion citing lack of time. "Rahul Dravid is one man who is enormously respected and was a successful captain, having won series in West Indies and England," Gavaskar had said. "When he speaks, the Indian players, some of whom are superstars, listen to him as they know how much preparation went into his game." "I am happy that he (Gavaskar) said I am capable of doing the job," Dravid had said. "But the job requires a lot of time, almost 11 months a year. I have just retired and at the moment because of time constraints, I have to decline." Dravid was India's best batsman on their previous tour of England in 2011, his three centuries the only bright spot in a 0-4 rout. In all, six of Dravid's 36 Test hundreds came in England, where he made 1376 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 68.80. He also had a successful stint with county side Kent in 2000, scoring 1221 runs in 16 matches at 55.50 with two centuries.
