QUALIFICATION PANELS July 31, 2013, and August 2, 2013 Voting Selection Panelists: Brooke Kellaway, Independent Curator Jill Manton, Director of Public Art Trust and Special Initiatives, San Francisco Arts Commission Renny Pritikin, California College of the Arts faculty *Zoë Taleporos, Public Art Program Associate, San Francisco Arts Commission *Justine Topfer, Public Art Project Manager, San Francisco Arts Commission *(sharing one vote) Process: Panel reviewed the qualifications of 170 artists that responded to the project Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Round one voting yielded 29 semi-finalists based on the criteria of artistic excellence (1-10, 1=low score). Panel discussed and scored the semifinalists’ qualifications relative to the advertised criteria in the RFQ.   

Round two voting yielded 13 finalists. The finalists were those artists whose scores were within a competitive range. They discussed their past projects, their interest in the Van Ness BRT public art opportunity, and any initial ideas/approaches they were considering for the project. The panel discussed the finalists and scored them in relation to the following criteria:   

ARTS COMMISSION APPROVAL Motion: Motion to approve the selection of Jorge Pardo for the Van Ness Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Public Art Project as recommended by the Van Ness Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Public Art Selection Panel. Motion: Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into contract with Jorge Pardo for an amount not to exceed $25,000 to work in consultation with the project design team in order to create an artwork proposal for the Van Ness Avenue Bus Rapid Transit Public Art Project.
