Basualdo, Adriana Graduated in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, she is currently in charge of the Area of Agroclimatic Risk at the Agricultural Risk Office, of the Ministry of Agro Industry of Argentina. She also participates as a consultant on projects of other institutions, such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). She also advises private companies in the agricultural sector: exporters, insurance companies, producers, etc. Ms. Basualdo is specialized in designing agro-climatic monitoring systems, risk assessment and development of products for users of the sector. She was a professor at the University of Buenos Aires, the Universidad del Salvador and the University of the Centre of the Province of Buenos Aires. [email protected]

Berterretche, Mercedes Agronomist with expertise in remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Within her extensive experience, she has worked 15 years in a company specializing in development of GIS and in her private activity she develops consultancies for agricultural and forestry enterprises, as well as information systems on the issue of risk. She is currently coordinator of the National Agricultural Information System in the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay. [email protected]

Bianchini, Valter Agricultural engineer; Specialist in Agricultural Policy from the State University of Campinas with a PhD in Environment and Development from the Federal University of Parana. Within his work experience, he has held positions as Rural Extensionist at the Emater Parana Institute, Researcher at the Department of Social and Economic Studies (DESER for its acronym in Spanish), as also Secretary of State for Agriculture and Supply of the State of Parana, and National Secretary of Family Farming of the Ministry of Agrarian Development of Brazil in two periods. Dr. Bianchini has supported the formulation, implementation and management of public policies and programmes that contributed to family farming, as the National Programme for Strengthening Family Agriculture (PRONAF for its acronym in Spanish), the Insurance for Family Agriculture, the Guarantee of Insurance Safra, the Guarantee of Prices for Family Agriculture Programme, among others. He is author of several works on public policies on family farming. Currently, he is National Project Manager in the regional office of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) in southern Brazil. [email protected] 3

Boutin, Raymond Agronomist with a Master´s degree in Project Management. He is currently project manager at Financière agricole du Québec - Développement international (FADQDI). In his long career, he has been manager and director for a Canadian agricultural cooperative. He has a lot of international experience in the implementation of various projects. Of note is the development of the production of llamas by the Aymara indigenous communities in Bolivia and counselling in the creation of two agricultural cooperatives of indigenous Quechuas in Ecuador. Currently, Mr. Boutin is head of the Project of Implementation of a Funding and Agricultural Insurance System in Haiti (SYFAAH) and of the Project to Support the Agricultural Financial System in Colombia (PASAC). Bronk, Andreas Studied agricultural economics at the GeorgAugust-Universität Göttingen. In 1999 he joined Hannover Re and developed the department of agricultural risks. He is General Manager since 2009. Before joining Hannover Re Mr. Bronk worked for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Peru and the German Cooperation Development Agency (GIZ) in Brazil. [email protected]

Cabestany, Jaime Veterinary Zootechnician doctor of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He is a senior consultant, specialist in operational issues of risk management, with more than 30 years of experience in the public sector of agricultural insurance and risk management in the sector. In AGROASEMEX, Dr. Cabestany has been responsible for the Direction of Evaluation and Loss Adjustment and the General Directorate of Operations, having under his responsibility all activities of direct insurance and reinsurance. Currently, he holds the Presidency of Cabestany Consultants for Agricultural Risks S.C., a consulting firm that serves both the state and the private sector and international organizations such as the FAO. He is also Chief Operating Officer of Tlaloc Insurance, S.A., an agricultural insurance company constituted by experts of Cabestany Consultants. He has participated in numerous courses, meetings, events and national and international exchanges related to the issue of agricultural insurance. Similarly, he has served as an instructor at various events. [email protected]

Castro, Eduardo Agronomist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (Academic Programme of Agronomy) Within his extensive work experience, he worked with agricultural information and foreign trade systems, in the formulation and implementation of the rules of statistics of the Andean Community of Nations and in the design, management and evaluation of programmes and projects related to information in the Andean countries. Among his functions, he has been responsible for leading the improvement of the generation of agricultural statistics and of conducting the development and implementation of the National Agricultural Plan. Currently Mr. Castro holds the position of Director of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (DEA for its acronym in Spanish) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Peru. [email protected]

Del Carpio, Lourdes Lawyer of the Catholic University of Santa Maria (Arequipa, Peru), BA in Political Science from Augustana College (Illinois), Master in Public Administration from Syracuse University (New York). She also has a Diploma in Senior Management of the University INCAE (Costa Rica). Within her extensive experience, she has worked as Technical Secretariat of the Commission for the Development of Agricultural Insurance in the Ministry of Agriculture and led the development of the first rules for the implementation of agricultural insurance in Peru. The commercial agricultural insurance for small producers has been listed by MIF IDB as an innovation in rural microfinance at the level of Latin America and the Caribbean. The project of micro life insurance for farmers won a competition convened by the Microinsurance Innovation Facility (ILO) for being an innovative product. Currently she is Deputy Manager of Rural Insurance in La Positiva Seguros. [email protected]

Demirbüken, Hakan Holds a degree in Statistics and a Master in Environmental Sciences (GIS and remote sensing applications). Within his extensive work experience, Mr. Demirbüken has worked with networkbased sampling and land cover maps, developed to be used as a sampling frame for surveys monitoring agricultural crops and geo-referenced information systems. He has over 24 years of experience working in statistics, GIS and remote sensing for Agricultural Information Systems. Previously Mr. Demirbuken worked in more than ten countries and contributed to research, statistics and crop monitoring projects in Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, India, Vietnam, Ukraine, Egypt, Serbia, Kosovo, Iran and Macedonia. Graham, Oscar Master in Economics from Queen Mary College, University of London and Bachelor in Industrial Engineering of the National Engineering University of Peru (UNI). In his labour experience, he has worked in the design of policies for the development of financial markets and private pension systems, as General Director of Financial Markets at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). Currently, he presides teh Multisectorial Comission on Financial Inclusion and is member of the Board of Directors of the Superintendence of Capital Markets, the Insurance Deposit Fund and ESSALUD in representation of the State. García de Francisco, José María Holds a Degree in Veterinary Medicine and works in the Spanish public administration since 2001, in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain. Currently he is Director of the State Agency for Agricultural Insurance (ENESA). In his previous experience he has held positions as Deputy General Director of Analysis, Foresight and Coordination, Coordinator of Alert Network for Animal Health and Head of Veterinary Epidemiology. Mr. Garcia de Francisco also worked as a consultant specialist in management of cynegetic fauna and in conservation programmes of endangered species. President of the Centre of Studies and Research for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks (CEIGRAM) and member of the Spanish Association of Agricultural Insurance Companies (AGROSEGURO). Ginocchio Celi, Carlos A. Business Administrator at the University of Piura. He has worked for more than eleven years in financial institutions in management, consulting and market research studies. In his vast labour experience, he has worked as a consultant and executive of the Financial, Management and Markets in the CESCA Corporation and also in the areas of Organization and Methods and Personal Banking in the BBVA Continental. Mr. Ginocchhio previously held positions as head of marketing for the Fund of Metropolitan Lima and head of marketing and Institutional Image of the Peruvian University of Science and Informatics of the CESCA Corporation. Girardi, Marcelo Agronomist, graduated from the National University of Rosario, Argentina. Has a Master´s degree in Economy and Finance from the University of Economics and Business Administration, in Argentina. Throughout his 18-year career, he has participated in the implementation of the Agricultural Insurance sector in insurance companies in Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and his native country. Mr. Girardi currently serves as Commercial Manager of Agricultural Risk Consultant (ARC), consultancy firm specializing in agricultural risks, also as producer of extensive crops and livestock in the province of Santa Fe. Since 2014 and up to the date he has held the position of General Secretary of the Latin American Association for the Development of Agricultural Insurance (ALASA). On many occasions he has given talks and conferences in different academic areas and of the insurance sector with issues of agricultural insurance, the last one being during the Agricultural Insurance Symposium (IAIS) in June of 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey. González, Francisco Bachelor of Commerce with a specialty in International Agribusiness of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM). MBA from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education Tampico Campus (ITESM) and a Master in Business Administration and Public Policy at the School of Public Policy (IEXE). Within his extensive work experience, Mr. Gonzalez was representative of the Business Delegation of South Tamaulipas in the International Fair of Toronto, Canada in 2004. In the company HEB Mexico, he held the position of manager of Perishable Goods in Chipinque, San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon. He headed the Comprehensive Socioeconomic Development Programme in Rural Mexico (Federal Projects). Previously he held the position of a representative of the Delegation of Businessmen of Southern Tamaulipas at the Guangzohu Fair, China in 2006 and until 2012 he served as Shareholder and CEO of Comercializadora e Importadora del Noreste S.A. de C.V. Hammer, Daniel Forestry engineer and agronomist with a major in agricultural economics from the Catholic University of Chile. He has worked as Financial Risk Analyst in the Agricultural Department of the Bank of Chile. He then worked as a consultant in the company “Agricultural Risk Management”, implementing and developing programmes in agriculture, aquaculture and forestry insurance for local (re)insurers and insurance brokers, as well as in the design of systems of loss adjustment, in the handling of claims and in technical inspections for local and international (re)insurers. Since 2000 he has been working at Partner Reinsurance Company, based in Chile and in charge of Latin America and other countries, and is part of the Department of Agricultural Specialty Lines. He has worked in reinsurance programmes of silvoagricultural insurance. Finally, Mr. Hammer has been a participant and panelist in symposia of agricultural and aquaculture insurance as in the Latin American Association for the Development of Agricultural Insurance (ALASA), and he has conducted workshops on loss adjustment in different countries. Herbold, Joachim Agricultural economist with a doctorate in Agricultural Sciences, from the Hohenheim University, Germany. He is Senior Subscriber in the Agro Division of the Company Munich Re. He has worked in Munich Re since 1993 and has served as a specialist for agricultural risks and subscriber on different continents and markets. Dr. Herbold was formerly a researcher in greenhouse crops at Hohenheim University and manager of a farm of greenhouses in Spain. He has published several articles on different aspects of agricultural insurance. [email protected]

Hernández, José Manuel Agronomist with 43 years of professional, national and international experience in agricultural development policies and planning, agro-export and agricultural projects, as well as in business management and private corporations on engineering issues. He has served as an international consultant for the International Trade Centre of the World Trade Organization (ITC / WTO) and the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS). He has also carried out consultancies for the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) and the Board of the Cartagena Agreement (JUNTA) on agricultural issues. Since July 2016 Mr. Hernandez is Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation in Peru. His political career is noted for its orientation to the benefit of the majority of farmers, family farming, farming communities and indigenous peoples. [email protected]

Jacome, Andrés Agricultural engineer, with specialization courses and a master’s degree in Soil Science and a doctorate and post-doctorate in Geomatics applied to the environment. He has worked as an agronomist in the Ministry of Environment, as a professor of Agrology and Conservation of soil and water at the Central University of Venezuela, and as an associate researcher at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique -Centre Eau Terre Environnement (INRS-ETE) (Quebec, Canada). He has conducted research projects in Latin America and North America as well as Europe and Africa. Dr. Jacome is currently a field coordinator of the project of support to the Agricultural Financial System in Colombia (PASAC), and the Financière agricole du Québec - Développement international (FADQDI). Lamm-Tennant, Joan She holds a PhD in Finance and Investments from the University of Texas, Austin; an M.B.A. degree in Finance and a BA in Accounting from the University of Santa Maria, Texas. Previously, she served as chief economist at a global level and risk strategist of the firm Guy Carpenter Company, the reinsurance company and risk management of Marsh & McLennan Companies. She has also been part of the Advisory Board of that company. In 2013 she received the recognition Advancement of Professional Insurance Women (APIW) as “Insurance Woman of the Year” and in 2012 received the award from International Insurance Society Kenneth Black for her service and commitment to the advancement of the global industry. In addition, she is an adjunct professor in international business at the Wharton University, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lamm-Tennant is currently Executive Director of the corporation Blue Marble Micro, formed by a consortium of eight insurance companies that aims to expand the market of microinsurance. Klingenberg, Cristián Agronomist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Since 2010 he is Manager of Farm Insurance in Aseguradora Magallanes, now part of the German group HDI Insurance, the leading Chilean insurance market company. His experience in insurance was shaped by being in charge, for eight years, of an office handling agricultural and aquacultural claims with national coverage. His work over the past 13 years has included the design, development and improvement of weather insurance for the exportation of fruit. He has also developed the Livestock Insurance including coverage for exotic diseases and has submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture a proposal of insurance against drought in pastures using vegetation indices. Among his current responsibilities is the Forest Fire and Aquaculture Insurance. Furthermore, Mr. Klingenberg is a is producer of grapevines for winemaking on a family farm. [email protected]

Martini, Carlos Holds an Agricultural Business Administration and Economics degree from the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires. Mr. Martini has ten years of experience in managing agricultural and forestry risks. He has been a subscriber and claims specialist, has participated in the development of different insurance coverages for traditional crops and in state programmes for non-traditional crops. Since 2014 he has worked at Aon Benfield as a technical analyst, where he has developed different coverages for Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru. In recent years, through participation in courses, seminars and conferences, Mr. Martini has gained experience in comprehensive, multirisk, parametric insurance for both agriculture and livestock as well as forestry. Morón, Eduardo Economist, graduated from the University of Pacific, Peru, Master by the Centre for Macroeconomic Studies of Argentina (CEMA) and with a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Currently, he is President of the Peruvian Association of Insurance Companies (APESEG). He is also a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of the Pacific. Previously, Dr. Moron was Director of Economic Studies of the Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR), Deputy Minister of Economy in Peru, Director of the Research Centre and Director of the Master´s programme in Economics in the University of the Pacific. He has also written books and research papers on pensions, fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policy. [email protected]

Murillo, Erik Agronomist at the University of San Andrés (UMSA, Bolivia). Has a Master of Science of Production Systems at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Chile and a post graduate degree in Rural Development Policy (Japan); in statistics and mathematical models and in higher education, both by the UMSA. Mr. Murillo has worked as a researcher at the International Potato Centre in the Bolivian Catholic University and as an independent consultant in rural areas. He has also participated in activities and events of technical and scientific exchange in America, Europe and Asia. He has experience in design and institutional management as well as in the management of programmes and projects supporting agricultural development. He was General Director of Agricultural Production in the Ministry of Rural Development and Land in Bolivia, and CEO of the National Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Innovation (INIAF). Since 2012 Mr. Murillo is CEO of the Institute of Agricultural Insurance in Bolivia. [email protected]

Navarro, Camilo Degree in Economics from the University of Chile, he holds a Master´s in Economics from the University of Chile and a M.Ph. in International Economics and Economic Development at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. Professionally he has served as Trade Commissioner of Chile in Peru; Alternate Representative of Chile to the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI); Head of the Department of Latin America of the Directorate General of Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. He has also been advisor to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Chile; international consultant and professor of International Economics in various post-graduate courses at the universities: U. de Chile, Portales, Cervantes, Development and Santiago. Since June 2014 Mr. Navarro has been the Executive Director of Agroseguros, with the mission to develop and promote risk transfer instruments affecting the agriculture and forestry sector, as well as managing a state subsidy to encourage placement. In addition, he was appointed National Coordinator of Integrated Risk Management from December 2015. [email protected]

Pera, Massimo Master in Economics of Development and International Cooperation at the University Tor Vergata, of Rome. He has worked in project formulation, support and technical assistance to field operations on finance and agricultural investments as well as policy and regulations, including training and capacity building for professionals, financial institutions and policy officers. Over the past ten years he has worked in the design and implementation of programmes of agricultural and rural finance in developing countries. Mr. Pera is currently the Rural Finance Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). [email protected]

Ramirez, Conrado Mr. Ramirez is an administrator of Agricultural Business with emphasis on Agricultural Engineering, specializing in senior management. He is linked to Seguros Sura since 1996, serving as an analyst subscriber in personal and family insurance and as director subscriber in property insurance and ownership. Currently Mr. Ramirez serves as National Director of Agricultural Insurance in Colombia where he has been since 2010. [email protected]

Relin, Axel Directs the Department of Agricultural Information System of GAF AG, Munich. Graduated in Agricultural Sciences from the Technische Universität Munich. He has an M.Sc in Applied Remote Sensing by the Cranfield Institute of Technology in the UK and a PhD in the field of Remote Sensing Controls within the framework of the European Common Agricultural Policy. The extensive experience acquired in GAF AG since 1988 focuses on the development and implementation of agricultural information systems. Key features include, among others: the development, implementation, quality control and training in control technologies for farmers based on remote sensing and GIS; studies of user requirements and development of agricultural information systems for public administration and farmers; development and updating of rural land registers based on GIS and orthophotos; analysis of agricultural statistics based on various methods; and risk management services in agriculture incorporating the insurance and banking sector. Dr. Relin has experience in countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. [email protected]

Ribeiro, Cristina Agronomist educated in the School of Agriculture Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ/USP), University of São Paulo. In addition, she has a Master’s degree in Agronomy from the same institution. In 2011 she joined the team of Swiss Re and is responsible for customer reinsurance operations in Latin America and the analysis, subscription and management of agricultural businesses. Her role is to develop solutions in traditional and non-traditional reinsurance in various business lines such as agriculture, livestock, aquaculture and forestry. She has 17 years of experience in the insurance industry, specializing in subscription, marketing, claims and agribusiness management. She gained professional experience in farm business management at the Agronomic Technical Consultancy. Subsequently she entered the insurance market in 1999 with the insurer Nobre, operating the Agricultural Insurance. She has also worked at Itau Seguros and BB Mapfre with agricultural and damage insurance. Finally, Ms. Ribeiro has lectured at various events on agricultural insurance in Latin America, such as: ALASA (Mexico, 2014); Reinsurance meeting of the Brazilian National Reinsurance Companies Federation (FENABER) (Brazil, 2013); Seminar New Trends in Agricultural Insurance (Chile, 2012), among others. Rojas, Oscar Doctor in agro-meteorology from the National Institute of Agronomy Paris-Grignon; MBA in Banking and Finance from the National University of San Diego, California, and degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Costa Rica. He has 25 years of experience in the field of monitoring of crops and estimation of yield forecasts in food security projects with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO, the World Bank and the European Commission. His main areas of work include monitoring using geospatial information, crop modelling, agricultural drought monitoring, risk management and development of tools to assess the impact of climate variability on agriculture. Salcedo, Rodrigo Economist from the University of the Pacific in Peru. He has post-graduate studies in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from the State University of Pennsylvania. He has over 13 years of work experience in economics of natural resources, and environmental. His work focuses on behavioural analysis and the processes of decision-making of farmers, farm households and communities, emphasizing the use of natural resources and adaptation to climate change. Mr. Salcedo currently serves as an affiliate researcher and instructor at the University of the Pacific and has worked with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank, and companies like GAF, IFPRI, GRADE, among others. Silva, Paulina Trained as a Systems Analyst, she has a Master in Business Administration MBA and specializes in Insurance. Within her work experience she has held various positions. She has been Advisor to the General Coordination of Strategic Goods of the Defense Ministry of Ecuador and Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries on relations with other countries, organizations and state institutions. She has also held the positions of Director of Strategic Goods Insurance, Administrator of the policy on aviation liability and civil responsibility for aircraft of the Armed Forces, among others. Ms. Silva is currently responsible for determining the subsidy policy and insurance for the agricultural and artisanal fisheries sectors to mitigate adverse events, as the Project Manager of Agroseguro in Ecuador. Zukowski, José Carlos Bachelor of Economics, Master from the State University of Campinas with a specialization in Agribusiness by the Foundation Institute of Management at the University of São Paulo. Within his extensive experience, he coordinated the creation and implementation of Family Agriculture Insurance (SEAF), which now serves more than 300,000 farmers throughout Brazil, with an insured amount of over R$ 9 billion. In addition, he has advised the Ministry of Agrarian Development of Brazil in economics, finance, cooperatives, credit and rural insurance, and has been Division Manager in the areas of Agribusiness, Cooperatives, Standards and Control on the Board of the Bank of Brazil. Mr. Zukowski is currently General Coordinator of Risk Management and Rural Insurance at the Ministry of Agrarian Development and member of the Steering Committee of Rural Insurance of the Federal Government of Brazil.
