DAAD Strategy 2020: Structures for Internationalisation The DAAD aims to: 

Support higher education institutions as they implement their own internationalisation strategies.



Better integrate higher education institutions of applied sciences/work-study programmes into international cooperation.

Structures for Internationalisation

Integrated international degree programmes with a double degree  Programme goal – Support continuing internationalisation measures at higher education institutions and contribute to the structural development of study programmes.

 Programme launched in 2000 – For the academic year 2012/13, the DAAD funded 112 double degree projects.

Structures for Internationalisation Transnational education Internationalisation means, in this case, promoting the mobility of structures instead of the mobility of people. Occasionally with local partners, German universities offer foreign study programmes  “German Study Programmes Abroad” (BMBF), cooperation projects and Centres of Excellence (AA and BMZ)  Scholarships, e.g. for exchange programmes and internships in Germany (AA)  Over 70 projects, 10,000 graduates, 20,000 students (BA, MA, PhD) 

Structures for Internationalisation

The ERASMUS Programme  Study visits and internships for students.  Guest lectureships and continuing education courses for employees of higher education institutions.  Around three million students from 34 European countries, 450,000 from Germany alone, have received ERASMUS funding since 1987. 14

II. Individual Scholarship Programmes Summary  What does DAAD expect from its applicants for a scholarship as the most important prerequisite?  Students: above average marks, a valid motivation and the level of English or German language demanded by the German University in question.

 PhD / young researchers: above average marks, a solid research plan, academic invitation of the German “Betreuer”, good command of German or English.  Advanced Post Docs: PhD - degree (“Kand., Doktor nauk”), valid research plan and the academic invitation of the German colleague. 29
