Runkkari is one of the people behind the acclaimed Vlek record label, responsible also for their often stunning record covers. He is an eclectic DJ in his own right, the spirit of Vlek running through his informed and beautiful DJ-sets. Runkkari ist Mitbetreiber des Brüsseler Labels Vlek und verantwortlich für das markante und kreative Design der Plattencover des Labels. Die Vielseitigkeit Vleks haftet auch seinen fundierten DJ-Sets an.
19.30 – Kühlraum Monochord (Meakusma - Aut)
Monochord are Vienna-based musicians Bernhard Hammer and Jakob Schneidewind, two thirds of Elektro Guzzi, though Monochord paints a different picture. Electroacoustic experiments and filmic elements define the music that develops instinctively yet irrevocably, a sense of forward motion setting them apart. Bernhard Hammer und Jakob Schneidewind von Elektro Guzzi fokussieren sich bei ihrem Projekt Monochord auf elektroakustische Experimente und Soundtracks für imaginäre Filme. Resom hails from Leipzig and has been a staple at ://about blank in Berlin from the very beginning. She runs her Option radio show on Berlin Community radio and teaches DJ workshops for women. Her sets are uplifting and ever in flux. Resom stammt aus Leipzig und war Resident der ersten Stunde im Berliner :// about blank. Sie betreibt die Künstleragentur Option mit gleichnamiger Show beim Berlin Community Radio und gibt DJ-Workshops für Frauen. Sie vereint Leftfield House, trippigen Electro und Techno zu dynamischen Sets.

(Vlek, Ångström Records - FR) Aymeric De Tapol’s production work touches upon musique concrète, drone, pulse-driven music and field recordings. His records have been released on Vlek and Ångström records, amongst others. His sonic world is unique and detailed and often plays with soothing as well as confrontational elements. Aymeric De Tapol lässt Spuren von Musique Concrète, Drones und Field Recordings in seine experimentellen Produktionen einfließen. Er veröffentlichte auf Ångström Records und dem Brüsseler Label Vlek. Subtil und detailverliebt verbindet er sanfte und fordernde Elemente in seinen Produktionen.

(The Oscillation, Hands In The Dark – UK) Tomaga Valentina Magaletti and Tom Relleen from London are behind Tomaga, a purposeful break from their musical past in such projects as Shit N Shine, The Oscillation, Neon Neon and Raime. Tomaga’s music surfs on synesthetic waves of industrial, jazz, psychedelia, dub and minimalism. Valentina Magaletti und Tom Relleen aus London schaffen mit dem Projekt Tomaga einen gewollten Bruch zu ihren anderen musikalischen Projekten wie Shit N Shine, The Oscillation, Neon Neon und Raime. He has been making waves in Belgian club land since 2011 with his eclectic and informed DJ sets that focus on what he thinks is good music, disregarding rules and genres. No trends, no hypes, Nosedrip effortlessly breaks boundaries. Nosedrip ist der Mann hinter der Online Radio Station Stroom.tv. As a DJ, he is an extremely informed motivator that revels in introducing unknown tracks, always with ease and poise. DSR Lines is David Edren from Antwerp. Edren has been making music for 20 years. His sound is defined by the modular synthesis he uses to build his liquifying, seemingly gentle yet extremely propulsive tracks. Seit fast 2 Jahrzehnten kreiert David Edren aus Antwerpen als DSR Lines mit Modularsynthesizern und Sequenzern kosmische Klangteppiche. Die improvisierten Stücke verarbeitet er zu hörbaren Akupunkturen.

Lord Tang cherishes the proverbial ghost in the machine. Under the tutelage of Gordon Mumma and Peter Elsea at the University of California, he developed an interest in hazy, ambient-like stretches of sound, dubs and abstracted hip hop. He very recently released his new album Butterflies on meakusma. Unter Anleitung der Komponisten Gordon Mumma und Peter Elsea entwickelte Lord Tang an der Universität zu Kalifornien erstmals ein Interesse an vernebelten, „ambientish“-fließenden Klängen, Dub und abstrakten Hip Hop Strukturen. Don’t DJ is The Durian Brothers’ Florian Meyer. His minimalist compositions attempt to tackle exoticism achieving a fresh and percussive sound drawing from many traditions. Meyer is also known as a fantastic DJ, seamlessly blending and bending genres in his eclectic sets. Florian Meyer (The Durian Brothers) verschmelzt als Don´t DJ serielle Beats mit warmen afrikanischen Melodien zu polyrhythmischen Clubtracks. Ungeschliffene, analoge Tanzmusik, die sich nicht um Dancefloor-Funktionalität schert. Georgia is Brian Close and Justin Tripp. Their polyrhythmic and wayward grooves give way to a stuttering and strutting exploration of edited improvisation and a comfortable confrontation between playful nonsense and deeper meaning. They have a light touch and are charmingly bonkers. Ben Ufo ist einer der mutigsten und vielfältigsten DJs der aktuellen Dance Music-Szene, mit feinem Gespür und großer technischer Sicherheit. Verwurzelt in der UK-Rave und Bass-Kultur liegt sein Fokus heute bei Techno und House. Er ist Mitbetreiber des Labels Hessle Audio und hat eine Radio Show auf Rinse FM.

13.00 – Open Air Mark Ernestus & Mark Ainley
(Honest Jon´s, Hardwax, Dug Out - UK/GER) Mark Ainley runs the Honest Jon’s record store and label and is also known for his compilation work for Soul Jazz. Mark Ernestus is the founder of the legendary Hardwax record store and was one half of Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound, recently delving into the Senegalese Mbalax genre by producing the band JeriJeri. They will play a DJ-set together. Mark Ainley ist Mitinhaber des Londoner Plattenladens Honest Jon´s und seit 2001 gemeinsam mit Alan Sholefield (Soul Jazz Records) und Damon Albarn (Blur) auch Betreiber des gleichnamigen Musikverlags. Mark Ernestus ist Gründer des legendären Hardwax Plattenladens, Teil von Basic Channel und Rhythm & Sound und zuletzt verantwortlich für das senegalesische MbalaxProjekt Jeri-Jeri. Gemeinsam werden sie ein DJ-Set zum Besten geben.

Rearview radio runs one of the most interesting record labels around today, the indispensable Themes for Great Cities, home of Wolf Müller, Tolouse Lowtrax and many others. He runs a monthly show on Dublab called TFGC and is a regular at the Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. Hinter Rearview Radio verbirgt sich der Betreiber des Labels Themes for Great Cities, dem man Veröffentlichungen von Acts wie Wolf Müller oder Tolouse Low Trax verdankt. Er betreibt die Radioshow TFGC auf Dublab und spielt regelmäßig im Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf.

(MMM, Ostgut Ton - GER) Fiedel Fiedel is a DJ, producer and live performer. He is one half of the legendary MMM aka Errorsmith & Fiedel project and is a resident at the Berghain club in Berlin. He runs the Fiedelone and Fiedeltwo labels. His intention to break open house and techno stereotypes has resulted in some of the most relevant club music of the past two decades. Fiedel ist DJ, Produzent und Live-Performer aus Berlin. Er ist Teil des legendären Duos MMM aka Errorsmith & Fiedel, Berghain-Resident und Betreiber der Labels Fiedelone und Fiedeltwo. In seinem Bestreben Stereotypen in House und Techno zu durchbrechen ist er verantwortlich für einige der relevantesten Produktionen im Bereich der Clubmusik der vergangenen zwei Dekaden.

(Entenpfuhl, a-Musik, Apparent Extent – GER) reiheM is a public, artist-led concert series for experimental music in Cologne. Frank Dommert and Volker Zander will kick off the reiheM stage with a mix of past and present recordings that inform reiheM’s diverse musical interests. Frank Dommert works for a-Musik and runs Sonig. Volker Zander runs Apparent Extent. Seit über 20 Jahren ist Frank Dommert Mitarbeiter des legendären Kölner Plattenladens a-Musik. Zudem ist er Mitbetreiber des Labels sonig und organisiert als Teil der reiheM Konzerte zeitgenössischer Musik. Volker Zander war Bassist der Band Calexico und betreibt seit 2005 das Künstlerlabel Apparent Extent. Gemeinsam spielen sie das „Cologne Continuum” Reihe-M DJ-Set.

(reiheM, Kunstkopf – GER) Hans W Koch & Dirk Specht Hans W Koch and Dirk Specht are linked to the Cologne-based reiheM. Koch is a composer, performer and sound artist. His work is mostly conceptual. He has won an award of distinction at the Ars Electronic festival in Austria. Specht is involved in the Kunstkopf and NooK projects, also from Cologne. Koch ist Dozent für Sounddesign der Kunsthochschule Köln, Komponist und Soundkünstler, experimentiert mit klassischen Musikinstrumenten in Saturday / Samstag

revolutionären Formaten und erhielt eine Auszeichnung des Ars Electronica Festivals in Österreich. Specht ist aktiv im Bereich der experimentellen Musik und der akustischen Kunst und errichtet Soundinstallationen. Gemeinsam stellen sie ihr Projekt „The Earthworm Experiment“ vor.

Based between Paris and Cologne, Laura Not likes to seek the hidden bonds between sounds. Like a collage made of pictures that may seem to be far one from another, her sets are the space in which she explores the gathering of sounds that link together beyond the different stories they tell. Beim Entdecken neuer Musik ist die in Köln und Paris lebende Laura Not auf der Suche nach unsichtbaren Verbindungen von Sounds. Wie bei einer Collage von Bildern bilden ihre Sets ein Sammelsurium von Sounds, die durch ihre Geschichten verbunden werden.

(Jahtari, Hyperdub, Ninja Tune - UK/GER) Dub poet Roger Robinson and producer Disrupt work together producing towering and cavernous blocks of sound. Straight from the streets of Brixton and inspired by the London riots of 2011, theirs is a modern, dissonant and confrontational take on electronic dub music, highly intelligent and highly informed. Dub-Poet Roger Robinson ist bekannt als Frontmann der Band King Midas Sound und hat bereits 5 Bücher veröffentlicht. Gemeinsam mit Disrupt hat Robinson 2015 das Album „Dis Side Ah Town“ auf dem Digi-Dub Label Jahtari veröffentlicht, welches von den Unruhen in London 2011 erzählt. Disrupts druckvolle Produktionen harmonieren wunderbar mit Roger Robinsons Gesang und Spoken Word.
18.00 – Kesselhaus Yann Leguay (Phonotopy, Art Kill Art - BE)
Yann Leguay is a Brussels-based sound artist that is something of a media saboteur. He has a striking disregard for the accepted norms of audio behavior, thus using unusual and unconventional playback means. He releases 7inch records without a hole in the middle and turns feedback into music. Yann Leguay, aufgrund seiner klangkünstlerischen Praxis schon als „Mediensaboteur“ bezeichnet, baut elektroakustische Hybrid-Instrumente. Pulsierend rhythmische Patterns, Feedbackschichtungen, Randbereiche des Hörbaren und klangliche Irritationen prägen seine Veröffentlichungen. 16

Mit seinem variantenreichen Mix aus dadaistischen Tape-Experimenten, Minimal Wave und Mutant Disco besticht Philip Jondo als Resident des Salon Des Amateurs und bei seiner Show für Londons NTS Radio.

(Chain Reaction - GER) Substance Substance or DJ Pete is a landmark in Berlin’s techno landscape. He witnessed techno’s hour zero in Berlin from the front row and produced many of the genre’s classic moments as Substance or together with René Löwe with the Scion project, developing the dub techno sound. Substance, auch bekannt als DJ Pete ist aus der Berliner Techno Landschaft nicht wegzudenken. His performance at the festival will premier his version of Morton Feldman’s “Crippled Symmetry” which will be released in a limited edition on the Finnish Frozen Reeds in September. A timbral performance inspired by classic American Minimalism and Experimental Music, the whole piece is based on one single played note. The aim is to bring the listener with a continuous flux of slow and simple movements into a kind of meditative trance. This is a sharp contrast to our modern fast paced world. Lobo often respects his influences, but just as easily exorcises them. He is one of the key players of experimental music in Lisbon today. Noberto Lobo ist ein Gitarrist aus Portugal, dessen Musik stark von John Fahey beeinflusst ist. (Deutsche Grammophon, Sub Rosa - BE) Leo Kupper Leo Kupper was born in 1935 in Nidrum (Eastern Belgium), studied musicology at the Liège Conservatory and then became the assistant of Henri Pousseur in 1959. In 1967 he put together his own studio where he would compose, to this day, over forty works, most of them on instruments of his own design (like the GAME and the Kinéphone). His first pieces were released by Deutsche Grammophon. He will play his first concert ever in the German speaking part of Belgium. Ignatz & De Stervende Honden veröffentlichten ihr erstes gemeinsames Album 2014 auf Ultra Eczema. Bram Devens gründete Ignatz 2005 und hat eine höchst emotionale, experimentelle Form von Blues entworfen. Die Arbeit mit De Stervende Honden ist insgesamt geradliniger im Songwriting.

Mattis used to work in the legendary London record shop Honest Jon’s and runs the weekly Knee Deep radio show on NTS. His DJ-sets revolve around drones, dance music, field recordings and the cracks in-between. A true eclectic, he makes it work. Christian Klinkenberg Orchestra plays Terry Riley “In C” The Christian Klinkenberg Orchestra will be performing Terry Riley’s quintessential In C from 1964. This work introduced repetition without melody as a main compositional technique in western music. Klinkenberg changed the usual line up of his orchestra and integrated electronics and “real-time” visuals. Also, Christian Klinkenberg composed “CCC” in collaboration with Teun de Lange, who developed an “improvising” app. A computer will play along without score, only by listening to the musicians. The apps musical impulse will be visualized on a screen. Everybody can join the orchestra with his tablet by following a workshop earlier the day of the concert (more info page 36) Das Christian Klinkenberg Orchester wird Terry Riley´s essenzielles Werk „In C“ von 1964 darbieten, welches Repetition ohne Melodie als Technik in der westlichen Musik einführte. Klinkenberg veränderte die Besetzung seines Orchesters und integrierte Electronics und Echtzeit-Visuals. Außerdem entwickelte Klinkenberg in Zusammenarbeit mit Teun de Lange die App „CCC“, die nur aufgrund dessen was sie „hört“ live zum Konzert improvisiert. Die Impulse der App werden während des Konzerts auf einer Leinwand visualisiert. Zudem kommt auch die „In C“-App zum Einsatz, die es nach Teilnahme an einem Workshop auf dem Festival erlaubt Live an der Performance teilzunehmen (mehr Infos auf Seite 36).

(Not Two Records - PT/USA) Saxophonist Amado plays jazz, dwelling on the shifting boundary between free jazz and improvised music. The rhythmic impetus of his sound, together with its forward motion are part him and part history. Chris Corsano has been at the vanguards of free improvisation, avant-rock and noise music since the 1990’s. He has worked with people like Björk, Jim O´Rourke, Paul Flaherty and Merzbow and is considered to be the most energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz. Seit Ende der 1990er Jahre befindet sich Chris Corsano an der Spitze der freien Improvisation und Avant-Rock Szene. Er arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Björk, Jim O´Rourke, Paul Flaherty und Merzbow. Rodrigo Amados ist ein Saxophonist der sich zwischen Free Jazz und freier Improvisation bewegt und hat im letzten Jahrzent zahlreiche Kollaborationen und Bands wie Motion Trio und dem Wire Quartett gegründet. Gemeinsam werden sie als Duo auftreten.

(Meandyou, Discontent - LU) Sensu Sensu was for years one of the voices of underground DJing in Brussels. He is now based in Luxembourg where he organizes experimental music events. His DJ-sets are eclectic and grounded in experiment. He has recently released a track on the Manchester-based Meandyou label. Lange Zeit war DJ Sensu sehr aktiv in der Brüsseler Underground-Szene. Heute wohnhaft in Luxemburg, organisiert er Konzerte experimenteller Musik. Seine eklektischen DJ Sets sprühen vor Experimentierfreude. Zuletzt veröffentlichte er einen Track auf Meandyou aus Manchester.

(Room40, Discrepant - UK) Mike Cooper has been an international musical explorer for the past 40 years, performing and recording solo and in bands in a variety of genres. White Shadows In The South Sea is his new soundtrack to the 1928 oscar winning film of the same name. His musical language of choice these days is Exotica. Im Laufe der letzten 40 Jahre hat Mike Cooper einen Wandel vom erfolgreichen Bluesmusiker hin zum Improvisator und elektronischen Experimentalisten hingelegt. Er gilt als Begründer des Musikgenres Ambient Electronic Exotica. (DF Editions, meakusma - AT/VEN) Different Fountains is the acclaimed musical union of Bernardo Risquez and Michael Langeder. They are hard to pin down as they fuse elements of pop, club and avant garde music into an accessible amalgam that never shies away from reaching out to the cosmos. Different Fountains stands for gentle agitation. They close the Dublab room with their several hours long interpretation of Eric Satie’s Vexations. Bernardo Risquez und Michael Langeder verarbeiten ihre zahlreichen Einflüsse zu Musik, die sich nicht in Schubladen stecken lässt. Moderne LeftfieldElectronics bestehend aus Pop, Club und Avantgarde. Film recordings, stories and images from the Mississippi Records and Alan Lomax archives Filmaufnahmen, Geschichten und Bilder aus dem Mississippi Records und Alan Lomax Archiv At the heart of the presentation stands the video material from the Alan Lomax archive that was collected between 1978 and 1985. Lomax took it upon himself to document the folk scene of the time that although flourishing was very under-documented. The recordings of the pulsating blues, country, folk and jazz movements show a side of musical culture of the seventies and early eighties that is still very much unknown. Afterwards, a slide show will trace the history of the Mississippi Records and the underground music industry. Im Zentrum der Vorführung steht Videomaterial aus dem 400 Stunden umfassenden Filmarchiv von Alan Lomax, entstanden zwischen 1978 und 1985. In dieser Zeit hat Lomax die florierende Folk-Szene dokumentiert, der damals wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde. Die Aufnahmen der pulsierenden Blues-, Country-, Folk- und Jazz-Bewegung zeigen eine Seite der Kultur der 70er und frühen 80er, die in der allgemeinein Wahrnehmung wenig bekannt ist. This traveling exhibition aims to amaze its audience and show that everything is possible and art is precious. All materials used come from the film, music and art archive of Mississippi Records. In an accessible and entertaining way, the exhibition shows some of the most important steps in the development of sound and music recording. Touching upon the cosmos, studying musical patterns in nature, describing the first recording techniques, telling the history of blues, rock & roll and other American genres, Isaacson also takes a look at the future. He is one of the few unrelenting and constant observers of life in Brixton, of post-riot/pre-Brexit Britain. He is a serious man with a great sense of humour. He wrote a short story about a woman who fell in love with a tree. He is a founding member of King Midas Sound and in 2015 he released an album with Disrupt on every reggae lovers favourite label Jahtari. Roger Robinson is a dozen men. Or more. A composition depicting a 45 minute walk through the meadows behind the Alter Schlachthof, composed especially for headphones. The piece plays with recordings made onsite next to vocal instructions aimed to draw the listener from a passive listening position to an active part. Helbich describes the Selfperformative Audio-Guide as a friend that takes you by the hand and guides you on a very personal trip through the wilderness. The trip takes the listener to the scenery nearby the festival site and gently threads into nature as well as into the body and soul of the listener. Socially isolated, the perceptional field of the listener is wide open. Pieces for headphones feature this kind of unique audience concentration and attention, closely playing upon the relationship between man and environment. Composer and artist David Helbich lives and works in Brussels. The scope of his work is wide as it moves in between conceptual art and active participation. He aims at reaching his audience and guiding them into the artistic space to play an active part in it. He is also behind the website and book Belgian Solutions. Die Komposition setzt eine ca. 45 Minuten dauernde Wanderung durch die Wiesenlandschaft hinter dem Alten Schlachthof voraus. Das speziell für Kopfhörer komponierte Stück spielt mit teilweise vor Ort gesammelten Feldaufnahmen und sprachlichen Anweisungen, die das individuelle Publikum nach und nach aus der passiven Hörerposition zu einer aktiven, mit-performenden Rolle begleiten sollen. David Helbich beschreibt den selbstperformativen Audio-Guide als einen Freund, der dich an die Hand nimmt und auf einen sehr persönlichen Trip in die Wildnis begleitet. Er führt durch die Landschaft in der Nähe des Festivalgeländes und tastet sich vorsichtig sowohl in die Natur, als auch in Körper und Seele des Besuchers vor. Together with Christian Klinkenberg’s interpretation of Terry Riley’s most famous work ‘In C’ comes the app, developed in Antwerp. It allows visitors to the festival to actively participate in the performance. ‘In C’ consists of 53 musical phrases that can be repeated as often as is deemed necessary. Riley assumed every musician to be a composer as well and wrote his piece in such a way that the performers have room to musically maneuver within a framework of set rules. This makes every performance of the piece unique. Thanks to the ‘In C’ app, the audience can be part of the orchestra as it is allowed to perform the piece as well. Being able to play an instrument is not necessary. The app is all about the decisions the audience takes. What is special about the app is that not only it respects the rules Riley set out for his piece and the individual freedom 36

of the performer is granted, but the interactive idea that uses the concept and brings it to a new plane. The only thing required is attentive listening and some patience to learn how the application works. Because it is easy to use, the app makes the piece accessible in new and unexpected ways. A detailed workshop is offered allowing those that are interested to participate in the concert of the Christian Klinkenberg Orchestra. Bei Christian Klinkenbergs Interpretation von Terry Rileys Werk „In C“ kommt auch die in Antwerpen entwickelte gleichnamige App zum Einsatz. Diese ermöglicht es einigen Festivalbesuchern aktiv an der Performance teilzunehmen. Das Stück In C besteht aus 53 musikalischen Phrasen, die beliebig oft wiederholt werden können. Riley ging davon aus, dass jeder Musiker gleichzeitig Komponist sein kann und schrieb sein Stück so, dass die Musiker innerhalb festgelegter Regeln einen gewissen Handlungsspielraum haben. So kommt es, dass jede Darbietung des Stücks einmalig klingt. Dank der In C-App ist es nun auch den Zuschauern möglich, Teil des Orchesters zu werden, da sie es auch Laien erlaubt das Stück zu spielen. Man muss kein Instrument beherrschen können. Bei der App geht es vielmehr darum, welche Entscheidungen der Anwender trifft. Das Besondere an der App ist, dass nicht nur alle Regeln, die Terry Riley für sein Stück geschrieben hat, eingehalten und die individuelle Freiheit der Performer innerhab dieser Regeln gewährt werden, sondern der interaktive Gedanke, der dem Konzept zugrunde liegt auf eine neue Ebene gehoben wird. Es bedarf nur aufmerksamen Hörens und ein wenig Geduld zur Erlernung der Anwendung. Dank seiner einfachen Handhabung macht die In C-App somit das Musikstück einem neuen Publikum zugänglich. Auf dem Festival wird ein ausführlicher Workshop der In C-App geboten, um interessierten Besuchern die Teilnahme am Konzert des Christian Klinkenberg Orchesters zu ermöglichen.

Playground is a mobile music application for iPhone and iPad. It allows users to interpret interactive songs in realtime. All instruments can be played simultaneously and very intuitively on the touchscreen. Playground was developed by Hermutt Lobby who was also responsible for the Beat Surfing App. Hermutt Lobby is a collective of Belgian musicians and developers that has been developing software and hardware based on the principles of systemic music since 2006. Live performance has always been their main focus. The goal of Playground is to show people without musical training the pleasure of musical performance and also to develop a new and fair way for artists to defend their artistic interests. Hermutt Lobby will present a lecture and demonstration on Playground.

PlayGround ist eine mobile Musik-App für iPhone & iPad. Sie erlaubt den Nutzern in Echtzeit interaktive Songs zu interpretieren. Dabei können alle Instrumente gleichzeitig und sehr intuitiv auf dem Touchscreen gespielt werden. PlayGround wurde von Hermutt Lobby entwickelt, die bereits verantwortlich für die Beatsurfing-App waren. Hermutt Lobby ist ein Kollektiv belgischer Musiker und Entwickler, welches seit 2006 Software und Hardware auf dem Prinzip der systemischen Musik entwickelt. Die live Performance steht bei ihren Überlegungen immer im Mittelpunkt. Hermutt Lobby´s Ziel mit PlayGround ist es Menschen ohne musikalische Ausbildung Freude am Musizieren zu geben und zudem ein neues und faires Vergütungssystem für Künstler zu entwickeln. Hermutt Lobby wird neben einem Vortrag auch eine Vorführung von Playground anbieten.

Audio Sculpture by Olivier Bovy, 2016 Welcoming the audience at the entrance will be Olivier Bovy’s audio sculpture HONK, hurling sounds that are difficult to identify. Is it animals screaming or people roaring? The sounds are taken from a 2001 soundtrack for which Bovy played with sounds that arise from his mouth, yet surpass words. Through sighing, groaning, screeching, grinding, neighing and wailing, HONK communicates with its audience. HONK is a modular sculpture, its appearance thus flexible and its characteristics and functions subject to change and differentiation. Like a UFO or reminiscent of a roundabout, a buoy or a howling seal, the sculpture escapes definition and is extremely active. Zur Begrüßung der Besucher wird am Eingang HONK stehen. Die Skulptur von Olivier Bovy schleudert den Menschen seine schwer identifizierbaren Laute entgegen. Ist es Tiergeschrei? Oder menschliches Gebrüll? Die Geräusche wurden einem Soundtrack aus dem Jahr 2001 entnommen, bei dem der Künstler mit Klängen spielt, die dem Mund entspringen, jedoch über Worte hinausgehen. Durch Seufzen und Stöhnen, Kreischen und Knirschen, Wiehern und Wehklagen kommuniziert HONK mit den Besuchern. HONK ist eine modulierbare Skulptur, dessen Erscheinung flexibel ist und die unterschiedliche Eigenschaften und Funktionen aufweisen kann. UFO-gleich, an einen Kreisel oder an eine Boje erinnernd, ein heulender Seehund – die Skulptur lässt sich nicht definieren, wirkt dabei aber sehr lebendig.

Starting mid-September, the mating season of the deer takes place in our region. The typical song or roar of the stag is part of the mating ritual or is used to repel rivals. Pitch and timbre are different from deer to deer whereby one can distinguish the individual animals. The impressive call, the special acoustics of the forest and falling darkness make for a unique atmosphere. If and when the weather allows, rides from the festival to a specific site in the 38

woods, where one can commonly listen to the mating calls of the deer, will be offered. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a van with limited space will take those who are interested from the festival to the woods. Ab Mitte September findet in unseren Lagen die Brunftzeit der Hirsche statt. Das typische Röhren der Hirsche ist Teil des Paarungsrituals oder wird zum Vertreiben von Rivalen genutzt. Die Stimmhöhe und Stimmfärbung sind von Hirsch zu Hirsch unterschiedlich wodurch man die einzelnen Tiere unterscheiden kann. Die beeindruckenden Rufe, die besondere Akkustik der Wälder und die einfallende Dunkelheit sorgen für eine einzigartige Atmosphäre. Bei passendem Wetter werden Fahrten vom Festival aus zu einer Stelle im Wald angeboten, wo häufig Hirschröhren zu belauschen ist. Freitag, Samstag und Sonntag startet ein Büschen mit begrenzten Plätzen vom Festival aus. Treffpunkt für alle Interessenten ist vor dem Außeneingang des Bistrots (auf der Terasse des Bistrots – siehe Plan auf Seite 3)

In the wooden Holzhaus in the garden of the Alter Schlachthof, breakfast, brunch and warm meals will be available on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 10pm. Fresh vegetables and fruit from the garden of the camping site are used. On the menu are stir-fried vegetables, energy smoothies, regional beers, cheese raclette and much more.
Bistro
Das Bistro des Alten Schlachthofs ist während des Festivals geöffnet. Auf der Karte stehen Snacks und Mahlzeiten für den kleinen und den großen Hunger, sowie eine vielseitige Getränkekarte.

REGIOmarché
The REGIOmarché at the Alten Schlachthof will be open during the days of the festival. Festival visitors can try out various snacks and soups, regional beers and juices and lemonades.
Der REGIOmarché am Alten Schlachthof ist während der Festivaltage geöffnet. Die Besucher dürfen sich auf leckere Snacks und Suppen, regionale Biere sowie Säfte und Limonaden freuen.
Whoopy Snack
Vom Hautpausgang des Alten Schlachthofs einfach rechts den Rothenberg rauf gehen und nach einigen Metern sieht man die Fritüre schon auf der rechten Seite. Geöffnet bis 22 Uhr.
Some 400 meters from the festival site, there is the chip shop Whoopy Snack. Simply take a right from the main exit of the Alter Schlachthof onto Rothenberg to find the chip shop on the right side. Open till 10pm. Info

Carrefour Eupen
In unmittelbarer Nähe zum Festivalgelände befindet sich der Carrefour Supermarkt. Die Adresse lautet Rothenberg 12 und ist etwa 400 Meter vom Festival entfernt, leicht zu Fuß erreichbar.
The Carrefour supermarket is very close to the festival site. The address is Rothenberg 12, some 400 meters from the Alter Schlachthof.
Hotel-Restaurant Sleepwood
The Sleepwood hotel has an excellent restaurant. The menu features fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. They offer one menu per day. The wine card is very good and the atmosphere is tranquil and pleasant. For those who want to spoil themselves. The address is Neustrasse 61, some ten minutes on foot from the festival site.
Das Hotel Sleepwood hat ein ausgezeichnetes Restaurant. Auf der Karte stehen Fisch, Fleisch und vegetarische Gerichte. Zur Auswahl steht jeweils ein Menu pro Tag. Damian Bier
Damian ist das perfekte Sommerbier “Made in Ostbelgien”! Es ist ein blondes Spezialbier (7.5%), das im Antrunk herb durch eine erfrischende Hefe und Kräuternote überzeugt. Die dezenten Fruchtnoten im Abgang machen das Bier anspruchsvoll mild. Es wird handwerklich in kleinen Brauchargen hergestellt und die Macher unterstützten regionale Projekte wie z.B. Meakusma! Damian is the perfect summer beer “Made in East Belgium”. A blond specialty beer (7.5%), Damian immediately convinces with its refreshingly yeasty and bitter flavor paired with subtle herbal accents.
