DECA Rush!

Set up a DECA booth at lunch and on breaks where you can advertise, inform potential members, and excite people about all DECA has to offer. • Recruit potential DECA members and include them in DECA week festivities. Gather their contact information and share with them chapter processes and meeting dates.. • Have an incentive to come to your booth by handing out candy and playing energetic music. • Play the Oregon DECA promotion video and share with potential members your experience in DECA. • Rotate chapter offices through the booth so they can meet potential members and spread their contact base. • Display pictures taken at past DECA events and projects.

Advertise! Host a brainstorming session where chapter members develop a plan for advertising DECA week and DECA Serve Day at your school. Some possible ideas are: • Posters to advertise DECA week. • Promotion during announcements. • Guest speakers in Marketing classes. • Visits to Freshman classes.

Competition Test Day! Practice test taking will provide DECA members an adequate amount of time to practice test taking strategies, while also learning about their event. • Ask advisor’s share their competition strategies. • Have last year’s SCDC event winners talk about their test taking experience. • Host a round table discussion on test taking tips. • Prepare yourself for the kinds of tests you would take at state and international level by taking a practice test.

Fundraise! Use DECA week as an excuse to fundraise it up! There are many effective and FUN ways to raise money for DECA. A few ideas are: • Cookie Dough Sales (Otis Spunkmeyer) • Candy Sales • T-shirt Sales • Coffee/Tea Sales • Snack Sales • Car Washes

Role Play Day! A key part to the DECA competition is the role play you and or your partner are in. • Practice role plays by creating a role play situation, then giving 30 minutes preparation time for the groups to prepare a real, and professional presentation. • Try having each set of partners give their presentation in front of the entire DECA chapter. • Each member of the chapter should score each group that presents, have them score on professionalism, delivery, and content. • Compile all the scores and rank the groups 1-10. Share the rankings on the last day of DECA week. • After everyone is done taking the tests have the officers correct the tests and rank the test scores 1-10. Give the scores back on the last day of DECA week. Fundraise! Do more fundraising! Fundraising is always a great way to get the word out about our organization and help out your chapter financially as much as you can. Here are some more ideas: • Dances • Auctions • Carnivals

Set Personal and Chapter Goals! Meet after school with your chapter officers and DECA members to discuss your goals for the year. • Allow a time for everyone to write down personal goals they have for the DECA year. Submit these to your advisors and have them give them back at the end of next year. • As a Chapter Officer Team, discuss what every person would like to see happen in the chapter this year. Put the goals into a few main categories. • As an officer team decide what you want your main focus to be for the year (for example more stage recognition at SCDC). • Use this time to create make a plan that can be applied throughout the year, make sure that your goals are aggressive but also achievable. • Set your chapter up for success by setting goals that are manageable and will also strengthen your chapter in needed

Mini-Banquet! Host a mini-banquet (or some sort of recognition session) and invite all potential, new and current DECA chapter members. The minibanquet can be held after school in a class room. At the banquet you can • Inform the entire chapter of your goals for the year. • Report on the earnings from the fundraiser. • Promote and prepare for your DECA Serve day activity. • Report on the rankings from the test taking, and the mini role plays. • Lead your chapter in raising excitement and chapter unity for the upcoming DECA year by showing a video, or slideshow of pictures from your DECA week. Get students excited about being involved in DECA, not only will it help students prepare for the future, but also learn interactively and have FUN while doing so.

DECA Serve Day! Every year Oregon DECA establishes a day that is known as DECA Serve Day. DECA Serve Day is a day in which DECA members across the country give back to their community. Some possible ideas are: • Volunteer at a local soup kitchen • Assist in building a house with Habitat for Humanity • Collect canned food for homeless shelters. • Give yard work service to elderly in the community. • Clean the school campus and plant flower bulbs for the spring. • Write thank you notes to school teachers and parents. • Be sure to submit your DECA Serve Day Participation form so you can be recognized at the State Leadership Development Conference
