STANDARD 7.1 (COMMUNICATION) All students will be able to communicate in at least one world language in addition to English. They will use language to: engage in conversation; understand and interpret spoken and written language; present information, concepts, and ideas while making connections with other disciplines and comparing the language/culture studied with their own. Novice-High Learner Range* Students beginning the study of a second language will meet the following Cumulative Progress Indicators by the end of: • Grade 4 if the student begins in kindergarten and the program meets a minimum of 3 times a week for 30 minutes. • Grade 8 if the students begins in grade 5 and the program meets 5 times a week for 40 minutes. • Grade 9 if the student begins in grade 7 and the program meets 5 times a week for 40 minutes. • Grade 11 if the student begins in grade 9 and the program meets 5 times a week for 40 minutes.
