Main results from the 1st Phase of the Regional Environmental Education Program (2008-2012) • Builging of a sub-regional network of experts and institutions (20 institutions and organisations: Ministries of Education, Ministries of Environment and Organisations of the civil society) • Support to 3 processes of EE integration in the curricula: – Guinea Bissau / National Institute for Development of Education – Guinea / National Institute of Pedagogical Research and Action – Cape Verde / EE Network of the Ministry of Education

• 500 teachers and technicians trained

2 Pedagogic tools (French, English, Portugues and Arabic) – 15 000 copies distributed in the 7 countries – Knowledge handbook: functioning and characteristics of the coastal zone – Study Guideuide Pédagogique: 10 thematic sheets to help reflect on the main environment challenges (fisheries, shellfish, biodiversity, protected areas, polution, water cycle, mining and oil, turism, coastal zone management and climate change)

• 8 local projects of EE creating links between schools and local comunities: trainings, teaching tools, field visits, pedagogical conservation projects, cinema debate • Exchange visits of children between Guinea Bissau and Senegal • 1 700 teachers and adults involved • More than 6000 children involved in PREE activities

Priorities for the 2nd of PREE (2013-2016) Objective 1/ Support efforts of Ministries of Education of the 7 countries to integrate environmental education in the curricula: – – – – – – –

Lobbying towards the government National action plans Identification of contents National educative tools Reference regional teaching tools Teacher trainings / active pedagogy Monitoring and teaching advice

Objective 2/ Develop environmental education reference and training sites in each of the 7 countries : – Local partnerships between Ministires of Education, Ministries of Environment, Protected Areas managers and NGO – Training, events and exchange visits – Colaboration and partnerships with conservation projects – Assessment and capitalization of experiences

Objective 3/ Strengthen and build up a regional network for environmental education : Update the EE stakeholders diagnostic Regular meetings of the national networks Regional meetings during the PRCM Forum Communication tools (newsletter, website…) Trainings and site visits (journalists, opinion leaders, Members of parliament network for the environment) – Environmental communication
