POPCORN

Your Map To Adventure Imagine kicking off your Scouting year and not collecting any money from Scouting families! Units can pay for the entire program they want to do without any out-of-pocket expenses through popcorn fundraising. Download the Map to Adventure budget planner at www.delmarvacoucnil.org/maptoadventure to get started. Use the worksheet to determine how popcorn will achieve your unit’s Ideal Year of Scouting. Four steps for a successful year of Scouting: 1. Establish an annual program plan and budget using the worksheet. 2. Set a unit popcorn goal that covers the entire cost and break it down into a per-Scout goal. 3. Put together an exciting incentive program for your unit that includes prizes. For example, sell $300 and get to throw a pie in your leader’s face! 4. Conduct a FUN Unit Kick-off to communicate the goals to families and Scouts.

What is a Popcorn Campaign?

Campaign Overview

SCOUTING RANKS WOLF ADVENTURE: Howling at the Moon 1. Show you can communicate in at least two different ways.

The popcorn campaign is a fundraising opportunity for all units within the Del-Mar-Va Council. Through one well organized fundraiser, a unit can fund their entire annual Scouting program. In addition to providing funding to the units and incentives to the Scouts, a portion of the proceeds funds Council activities, trainings, and programs. Approximately 70% of the total sale supports the Scouting program across the Del-Mar-Va Council. The aim is to support unit programming and help Scouts have a quality Scouting experience while removing the financial burden on families. The popcorn campaign is designed to help sell popcorn in a risk free and highly supported manner. Below are descriptions of different methods that highly effective units have organized to be successful in their sale: 1. Show and Sell – Scouts sell popcorn in high traffic locations. 2. Show and Deliver – Encourages units to sell by going door to door and asking residents to purchase popcorn and immediately fulfilling their order. Many Scouts that do this type of sale use a wagon full of popcorn to assist with their salesmanship. 3. Take Orders – Scouts sell popcorn from an order form and fulfill their order at a later date. 4. Online Orders – Scouts sell outside of their immediate area by emailing individuals who can purchase online and product is shipped directly to them. BENEFITS TO SCOUTS BY SELLING POPCORN: 1. Gain confidence by interacting with the general public. 2. Gain a better understanding of paying their own way for activities and programs. 3. Gain a greater appreciation for the importance of planning and fiscal responsibility. 4. Gain additional advancement opportunities.

WOLF ADVENTURE: Paws on the Path 2. Tell what the buddy system is and why we always use it in Cub Scouts. WOLF ELECTIVE ADVENTURE: Adventures in Coins 3. Play a game or create a game board with your den or family where you can practice adding and subtracting coins. ARROW OF LIGHT ADVENTURE: Building a Better World 4. Learn about your family’s expenses and help brainstorm ways to save money. Plan and manage a budget. BOY SCOUT MERIT BADGES

Reviewing your sales history

Each Scout will receive a $5.00 GameStop gift card for every 30 customers. E-mail a copy of your order form or screen shot from your mobile device to [email protected] and the gift card(s) will be mailed to you. **Not all cards need to be claimed at the same time but all must be claimed by December 6th.

$600 Club: Available to all Scouts who sell a total of $600 or more. Boy Scouts who sell $600 receive a Rosewood Multi-tool with Hammer. Cub Scouts who sell $600 receive a Zing Firetek Rocket.
