Choose three from the following (memorization required):  J.S. Bach - any Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier, or other major work  Classical - any sonata by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart or Schubert  Romantic - any substantial work by Chopin, Brahms, Liszt, Schumann or Mendelssohn  20th/21st Century - any major work by Bartók, Ginastera, Schönberg, Libermann, Prokofiev, etc. One virtuosic étude by Chopin, Liszt, Moscheles, Bartók, Debussy, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin or Stravinsky

VOICE Master of Music  5-6 pieces 1 each in French, German, Italian, English and should include, but not more than one oratorio and/or operatic aria  Students should submit programs for all undergraduate performance recitals. Post Baccalaureate Certificate  40-50 minutes of memorized music that represents Italian song, German Lied, French melodie, and 20-21st century song in English.  One operatic and one oratorio aria (not more than one each) is required.  Should an applicant wish to include performances to show proficiency in other languages, i.e., Spanish, Russian, Czech, etc., they may do so, but may not do so as a substitution of French, German, Italian, or English.

STRINGS VIOLIN Master of Music  Applicants should prepare two solo works. One of them should be slow, with sustained, melodic lines, and the other should be fast and technically challenging. Choose from: o A movement at the level of difficulty of concerti by composers such as Mozart, Viotti, Bruch, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns No. 3 o A movement from an unaccompanied Bach sonata or partita o A movement from Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern sonatas  Sight-reading. Post Baccalaureate Certificate  Choose three from the following: o J.S. Bach - any movement from the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin o Classical - Beethoven concerto or any Mozart concerto o Romantic - any substantial work by Brahms, Paganini, Wieniawski, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens etc. o 20th/21st Century - any major work by Bartók, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, Shostakovich etc. o One caprice by Wieniawski or Paganini  Sight-reading  Minimum time requirement of 30 minutes  Performance standard demonstrating success above the Master’s level, with potential for success at the DMA level.

VIOLA Master of Music 1. Prelude from any Bach solo suites 2. One of the following complete sonatas: Brahms Op. 120 No. 1 and No.2 Schubert- Arpeggione, Schumann- Märchenbilder, Rebecca Clarke, or a sonata of similar difficulty. 3. The first movement of the following concertos: David, Bartok, Walton, Forsyth, or a concerto movement similar in difficulty. 4. A virtuosic piece of the applicant’s choice. 5. Sight-reading Post Baccalaureate Certificate

1. A complete solo Bach suite (1007-1012), or one of the Suites for Solo Viola, Op.131 by Max Reger. 2. A complete sonata by Schubert, Brahms, or Hindemith, or an equivalent work such as Schumann or Maerchenbilder. 3. A complete concerto such as: Stamitz, Bartok, Hindemith (Der Schwanendreher), Walton, etc.

CELLO Master of Music 1. A Sonata for Cello and Piano by one of the following composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Franck, Debussy or comparable work. 2. One of the following complete concertos: Dvorak, Schumann, Haydn D major, or comparable work. 3. Sight-reading

Post Baccalaureate Certificate 1. A Sonata for Cello and Piano Beethoven, Brahms, Franck, Debussy or a similar work: 2. One of the following concertos or a comparable work:  Dvorak  Schumann  Haydn D major 3. Three contrasting movements of a suite by J. S. Bach

DOUBLE BASS Master of Music  Classical 1. First movement including concerto from a standard concerto (Bottesini, Koussevitzky, or Vanhal) 2. All three octave major and minor scales 3. Sight-reading 

Jazz 1. Two memorized standards – be prepared to play the melody, a 2-beat bass line, a walking bass line, and improvised solo (All the Things You Are, Body and Soul, Confirmation, or Stella by Starlight) accompaniment will be provided. 2. All three octave major and minor scales 3. Sight reading provided at audition – ensemble part reading and lead sheet interpretation

One solo work. 2 of the following three movements (March, Canaries, and Perpeto Moto) from Carter’s Eight Pieces or one piece of similar difficulty. Drumset and Hand Drums are optional, but strongly encouraged.
